RB Joe Mixon, HOU (1 Viewer)

Is it possible to clear concussion protocol in 6 days and play in the next game? I'm not sure if that's happened yet this year

Mixon's likely to go in the RB15-20 range in FF drafts next year.
Maybe. Seems a little high to me but there are some folks who really really love this guy, so maybe.

It'll be interesting to see how Cincy addresses the o-line through free agency and the draft. They should be set next year at WR/TE (maybe lose Eifert) and QB, for better or worse. Seems like a good position for Cincy to spend their draft on o-line and defense. Mixon is starting to shine now and could be a nice value in FF drafts next year with some o-line additions.
The Bengals have a tendency to draft offensive players in the early rounds more often than defensive players, see them drafting Mixon this year for example when they already had two 2nd round RBs on their roster in Bernard and Hill.

They did draft offensive linemen recently with the plan in mind for those players to replace their aging and high dollar free agents, LT Whitworth (signed with the Rams) and RG Kevin Zeitler (signed with the Browns), Those two players are near the top of their positions so not that easy to replace. The Bengals offense has taken some steps backwards because of this.

In 2015 the Bengals selected Tackle Cedric Ogbuehi in the 1st round and Tackle Jake Fisher in the 2nd round. They have played some games at left tackle and right tackle respectively for the Bengals this season. I am not sure how well they have played however. Generally it does take an offensive linemen 3-4 seasons before they start playing their best football at the NFL level, so the Bengals were thinking ahead with these selections, both are in their 3rd season now, and this planning may have had something to do with why they let Zietler walk in free agency, even though he was a 1st round pick in 2012 and still young. He got paid a lot of money and suppose more than the Bengals felt they could afford.

Given the fact that the Bengals have used 1st and second round picks on WR and RB in the last two drafts, and still some needs at offensive line, that is the area that seems like they will prioritize.

When the Bengals have drafted defense in the first round, it is usually defensive backs such as 2012, 2014 and 2016 they used 1st round picks on defensive backs.

Every draft is different and it depends on who drops to their pick of course, but I can see offensive line being a priority or maybe defensive end as their starters are getting older there.

You're thinking of a different situation.

This year, Tae returned in 10 days.

Last year, he returned in basically 3. Sunday afternoon concussion, played on thursday night.
Wow! 3 days later is pretty insane. I don't know if Mixon sustained any concussions in college

Craziest thing was that was kind of his breakout game. Had a rough 2015 and rough start to 2016, gets knocked out, no practice, cleared thursday afternoon and has like 130 and 2 tds that night. Has been really damn good ever since.

Assuming he's available this week, how many people are starting him at Minny. Despite Stewart's nice game, this is a brutal matchup

Brutal match up and does anyone think Gio has earned some more play time after his last few weeks of performance?

if it's Thursday where you live, yes

also practiced in full today (posted on Twitter 10 min ago by beat writer)
Thanks for the wise response. I know about what took place Thursday. I'm interested in Friday. Just because somebody practices Thursday doesn't mean they practice Friday.

But thanks for the update on today.

Have not seen anything indicating he's cleared protocol.

I heard on Footballers podcast a doctor saying getting through a full participant practice and then being cleared by a neurosurgeon is now part of the concussion protocol. I wasn't aware of that, apparently that was [added] sometime this fall. Anyway, obviously today will  be his first full practice they are on the road this week (flying can cause problems as well.)

Yup.

I'm interested in the Mixon news because my opponent has Gio. If Mixon is in, I bet my opponent goes scrambling so I'd be looking to block a pickup. Probably K. Williams.

I think Stewart just scored another TD against the vikings.
I know, obviously flukish but proves it can be done. I thought Evans was a lock with Mixon practicing but now I am in a rut. I think he can rush for 50 yards, probably 5 rec for 40-50. If he can pull a tugger though...

Mixon is gonna blow up next year when they get a real coach.
Good chance...quietly he's at 784 scrimmage yards this year and really he didn't get much for touches until week 3 so that's in 9 1/2 to 10 games. He probably hits 1,000 this year if he wouldn't have gotten hurt

He practiced in full today and faces a not so tough Lions defense.  I think he's a better play than someone like Lynch vs Eagles (#1 rush def).   Mixon could be a sneaky play this week.

I expect a good game from Mixon today unless the Bengals OL have packed it in for the season and put their heart in a box somewhere.

It's either him, brate or tyrell for my last flex spot...mixon is in right now but I'm just scared that gio is involved more then before the concussion since he played pretty good. Mixon should still have the goalline looks though.

The other 2 have both lost competition in targets but both have been pretty bad lately. Really wish I could trust mixon getting a full 20-25 touches right away

Bengals hot for Jay Gruden. This Mixon owner says make it happen. In fact, bring along Cousins, and send them a cheap Dalton.

Well that sucked...kept him in and was loving his start...I do think he woulda split some with gio but I don't see why 100 total yards (70 rushing 30 receiving) and maybe a TD wouldnt have happened.

This is Rotoworld's season summary blurb on Joe Mixon:

"Mixon didn’t show much as a rookie, rushing for a JAGian 626 yards on 178 carries (3.5 YPC) and four touchdowns. He was held under 70 yards in 12-of-14 games. Mixon enters the offseason as the No. 1 back on the Bengals' depth chart, but a new coaching staff could bring in competition. Dynasty owners should consider selling Mixon."

Anyone agree that Mixon is a sell? To me he's a huge buy, especially if owners are motivated to unload

Have somewhat mixed feelings but would have no hesitation buying on the cheap. I doubt most owners have given up on him though despite what thatblurb says.

Again...RW is good at breaking news but poor at analyzing it. That's a silly blurb.
So true.

But even in a sea of poor analysis this take jumped out at me as being extra lazy. You have to ignore a lot of factors to consider Mixon a sell (like the eye test, like advanced metrics, like how he played better and ran more decisively as the season progressed etc)

Same, it jumped out to me when I read it and I thought it was the worst rotoworld blurb of the year. It was bad I gave them pass, I figured it was on a holiday and they might have had a substitute manning the news/blurbs. I don't think any Mixon owners in any league of mine think he's a sale, but I'd happily buy.

I hope that perception becomes more wide spread.  I would love to see Mixon under-valued when drafts/auctions occur next year.

Worst rotoworld blurb of the year is a dubious distinction! They seem particularly weak at evaluating RBs, relying completely on YPC stats and ignoring lots of context and nuance. I can recall another blurb this year that said Melvin Gordon "simply isn't very good at football." I had a good laugh about that one.

Joe Mixon currently weighs 225 pounds and is "looking to drop five more."

Mixon weighed nearly 240 pounds at rookie minicamp last year after letting his conditioning go temporarily due to pre-draft travel, visiting several NFL teams. This offseason, Mixon has been able to stay in better shape with a one-track focus as he prepares to take over as the Bengals' full-time feature back.

Disclaimer—Please take and categorize this as nothing more than gut instinct. This is not some expert fantasy analysis and I don’t intend it to be taken as such.  Also—I only play redraft—so this is coming only from a re-draft angle.

Barring injury—I think Mixon has a really good season—like potential top 7 ppr fantasy rb good.   He had some very obvious distractions last season. On top of that he had one of the worst o-lines in football to deal with.  Once Bill Lazor became the coordinator—Mixon seemed to get more opportunity and more productive.   A year after the drama, with a better o-line—and him getting in super amazing shape—I think he has the chance to have an elite season.   He certainly has the skill set  that one looks for when digging out elite fantasy rbs.

There was widespread optimism after he was drafted early last year, so my question to the pool is where would you rank him among the 2018 rookie RB's?  Talent wise, I think he's #3 but situation wise, I'd jump him ahead of Guice since Chris Thompson will hold that down.  I know I thought of Mixon as the most talent in 2017 but all his surrounding questions were tough to ignore.  So where would people rank him knowing landing spot and talent level?

I tend to agree, but also concerned we may be writing off Gio too quickly.
