The Athletic's Zak Keefer believes the Colts won't have to use Jonathan Taylor in 2022 as much as they did in 2021.
This meshes with Colts head coach Frank Reich telling ESPN last week that "I almost don't want" Taylor to lead the NFL in touches this season, acknowledging that Super Bowl teams don't typically run a conservative, ground-and-pound offense. Keefer said Nyheim Hines' increased usage in the Colts offense this year is "the worst kept secret" in the NFL. In 2021, Taylor led the league with 322 rushing attempts, single handedly lifting fantasy managers to championships. Taylor, however, didn't exactly dominate the team's high value touches (receptions and touches inside the ten yard line), finishing 11th in running back high value touches. He should remain one of the first couple running backs off the draft board, but a decreased workload could mean a slightly lower ceiling in 2022 in a Colts offense that could be far more pass heavy than fantasy managers are expecting.

Jonathan Taylor rushed 31 times for 162 yards and a touchdown as the Colts tied with the Texans in Week 1.
He added four catches for 14 yards on seven targets. Indianapolis tried to establish Taylor early and often, as he had 14 carries at halftime and looked to have salted away a win for the Colts before Rodrigo Blankenship pushed an overtime attempt right. Well, so much for those volume concerns. The Colts draw Jacksonville next week in another game that projects as a smash script for Taylor as a no-thought-required RB1.

Jonathan Taylor rushed nine times for 54 yards in the Colts' Week 2 loss to the Jaguars, adding a nine-yard reception.
With the Colts missing Michael Pittman and Alec Pierce, it is unclear how Frank Reich's game plan included only 10 Taylor touches, though Matt Ryan and the passing game made life difficult on the ground by failing to generate any meaningful aerial production with Pittman on the shelf. The few times Taylor did get the ball, he was looking powerful and angry. Taylor has now posted one mammoth effort and one dud through two shaky Ryan starts. Game script could become a problem in a hurry in next week's showdown with the Chiefs, but it is safe to assume getting Taylor the ball will be a bigger point of emphasis than it was on this dismal afternoon.

I couldn’t believe Taylor’s floor today. At Jacksonville hasn’t been a fun place for the colts. Flat out disgusting to get that amount of fantasy points from a top pickIf you're Irsay, I'm thinking you send some flowers and a blank check to Andrew Luck's residence right about now.
Joking, but definitely worried about the offense and its effect on Taylor.
Things should improve when they get Pittman and Pierce back. Their other WR/TE are not credible threats.
Jonathan Taylor rushed 21 times for 71 yards in the Colts' Week 3 win over the Chiefs, adding three catches for 20 yards on five targets.
Since his monster Week 1 against the lowly Texans, Taylor has been held to a combined 30/125/0 rushing line over the last two weeks against the Jaguars and Chiefs. Matt Ryan just isn't threatening defenses at all with his arm. Taylor was stuffed on a couple goal-line looks, and rookie TE Jelani Woods ended up catching a pair of touchdowns, one- and 12-yarders. Taylor has been a bit of a disappointment for fantasy players as the 1.01 pick, but he'll look to get back in the end zone next week against the Titans.

The concern here is that teams don’t even respect Ryan. Ryan’s barely making them pay. This is bad news for Taylor. IDK- Chubb seems to be doing just fine with his backup QB. I dont know what the problem is here.Bad fantasy game but looks like he palyed a good NFL game. He’s getting the ball….they just need to get the ball out of Ryan’s hand.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that tests on RB Jonathan Taylor's ankle came back negative, giving him a chance to play in Week 5 against the Broncos.
It's great news for Taylor, given that the dreaded "high ankle sprain" was mentioned as a possibility. In a normal week, it sounds like Taylor would have a strong chance to suit up. However, the Colts take on the Broncos on Thursday Night Football in Week 5. Given the quick turnaround, Taylor could miss the game or be limited. Still, Taylor's fantasy managers can breathe a sigh of relief that the superstar did not suffer a major injury.

I haven't sat and watched entire games but every time I flip through or see games I see Ryan looking completely done...he's fumbling, getting sacked, throwing picks and looking generally lost. They are also falling into a consistent pattern where they fall behind early and then need to pass the final 3 quarters to try and get back into the game. It seems they can't sustain drives, aren't run blocking well, are putting themselves into consistently bad game scripts but beyond that things are going well...Injury aside here - WTF is going on? I’m reading about how his YAC after contact his down. No sh!t. Big difference if you’re getting hit with a full head or steam after 4-5 yards like last year va getting stood up at the line like this year? Why can’t they create holes? Supposed to be an elite line. Didn’t see a lot of change with coaches, players or scheme so that if anybody was a safe pick, Taylor was. Ryan has been mostly horrible but showed signs yesterday. I know receiving threats are limited. Can this get going when he’s healthy or not? Hoping he heals within a few weeks
Jonathan Taylor (ankle) is not practicing Tuesday.
He's wearing a light boot. The Colts are only running a light walkthrough so this likely doesn't have a huge impact on his ability to play Thursday. The practice status likely matters less than Frank Reich's statement of "we'll see if he's ready to go on Thursday night" earlier today. Even if Taylor does play, him playing hurt in an offense that has had almost no rushing success this year against a good Broncos defense is not necessarily the recipe for a fantasy must-start.

True - though Josh Jacobs just rolled the Bronco D this weekend...Jonathan Taylor (ankle) is not practicing Tuesday.

He is not. He would be in line to see more targets out of the backfield, but he would not be in line to get 20 carries a game.Is Hines the guy to get 18-20 carries? Always just seemed like a third down guy to me. Or is there another back?
I dunno. Against Denver? Short week. That offense sucks even with JT.Hines will be PPR gold if Taylor is out.
Yeah I don’t think so. One of my opponents this week has JT and Hines and I kinda hope he starts Hines over one of his other options. Feels like a trap to me.Is Hines the guy to get 18-20 carries? Always just seemed like a third down guy to me. Or is there another back?
Yea I don’t know why he’d be more than a third down back still. Maybe a few more snaps.Yeah I don’t think so. He could catch a bunch of passes when the Colts fall behind - the Denver offense is starting to get into form.FBG rankings a lot higher on Hines than I expected.
Hines has played 50% of the snaps or more in 10 career games, and he's averaged 17.5 PPR points per game in those – 7.4 carries for 26.5 yards with 6.3 catches on 7.4 targets for 43.9 yards, with seven touchdowns in those 10 games.
He should solid in PPR but colts are a different team this year
completely different roles for Taylor than Hines. Against a good run defense Hines could actually flourish with short dump offs and motioning him out wide. If Hines was asked to do exactly what Taylor's role is as the bruising 20 carry a game back then yes he would fail.Hines has played 50% of the snaps or more in 10 career games, and he's averaged 17.5 PPR points per game in those – 7.4 carries for 26.5 yards with 6.3 catches on 7.4 targets for 43.9 yards, with seven touchdowns in those 10 games.

That's the big thing. If Taylor can't succeed in this offense it seems like a stretch to say Hines will. Most likely he will be splitting carries 3 ways and probably splitting 3rd down. Plus the offense doesn't move much so there aren't that many scoring opportunities right now
I don't think anyone thinks that Hines will get 20+ touches in this game. I would say 8-10 carries and 4-6 catches, which would be a solid floor in PPR. As others have said, if you can't start Hines in this spot, there is no reason to really be rostering him.Hines has played 50% of the snaps or more in 10 career games, and he's averaged 17.5 PPR points per game in those – 7.4 carries for 26.5 yards with 6.3 catches on 7.4 targets for 43.9 yards, with seven touchdowns in those 10 games.

To be fair, a lot of people fell for the coach-speak in the pre-season that they were going to use Hines more, so that's why some people targeted him thinking he'd have stand alone value as a flex with a lot of upside in case of a Taylor injury. Obviously that hasn't been the case, and I don't expect him to get 18+ carries now, but he could still be a decent play if he gets 8-10 plus the receptions.Yea I don’t know why he’d be more than a third down back still. But then again, if you don’t play him in this situation why even have him?
Jonathan Taylor (ankle) did not practice Wednesday.
Coach Frank Reich is "optimistic" Taylor will return in Week 6, but this is not a positive start to the week. In better news for the Colts, Nyheim Hines (concussion) got in limited work on Wednesday and appears on track to play against the Jaguars.

Jonathan Taylor (ankle) practiced Friday.
Taylor missed Week 5 with what has been described as a high-ankle sprain. Getting him back on the field before the injury heals could prove disastrous for the Colts if Taylor aggravates the ankle, but the team seems intent on doing just that. Nhyheim Hines (concussion) practiced Friday in a non-contact jersey. It's unclear if he'll play in Week 6 against the Jaguars. That would leave Phillip Lindsay and Deon Jackson as the only two healthy Colts backs headed into the divisional matchup. Lindsay would likely be the lead back in that situation. Neither guy would get a full workload, however.

you have some good choices but I'm not as fortunate this weekend. If he plays he's in my lineup no question.Anyone trusting him enough to start him this weekend? I have Fournette and Walker currently in my 2 RB slots
