RB Jonathan Taylor, IND (4 Viewers)

Im sure not everyone will agree, but In my opinion, the Colts handled this in the worst possible way from start to finish. Now they have a RB on PUP for 4 weeks who does not want to play for them. By the time he comes back they're 1-3 if they are fortunate, and he will sit back down whenever he gets a bruise on his calf. They get nothing for him aside from a huge distraction that now lingers into the season when they are trying to establish their new identity with their new 4th overall picked QB.

Brutal mismanagement in my opinion. Horrendous.

How do you sit out the most games possible while still getting paid and not risking injury?

Have the Colts PUP you.
Right. And he hasnt practiced with the new QB in the new offense, so when he finally does come back its like entering a brand new offense on day one. Absolutely horrific. I would be livid if I were a Colts fan.

The whole thing is, JT not happy with his contract. Too bad, he has no leverage.

JT cannot sit out because then he cannot become a free agent down the road. So he gets a 4 game vacation to start the year.

Short of getting traded, this seems fine for JT

not sure where he goes for redraft and a little bit dynasty
I would not touch him in redraft. Missed 4 games and probably wont play hurt all season. This is a lost season for JT unless he gets traded at some point, and based upon what just happened I don't think you can count on that.

Seems pretty obvious they will remove him from the PUP list.
I thought that wasn't possible. I thought once the decision was made he is locked on there for 4 weeks. Am I wrong about that?
They could have removed him at any point up until 4 today. Now that they didn't, he's locked on there for 4 weeks.
yeah that's what I said, but we got it cleared up - he's ****ed and so are we
His comment came prior to the deadline, yours came after.

crap my bad, I actually did look at that when I commented originally but did the math wrong

I was misquoted. I said it's obvious they will NOT remove him from PUP. Yep, haha.
Wow, stupid

Jim Irsay somehow managed to handle his star RB worse than Joe Schoen... badmouthed Taylor with that weird "if I died" comment, made up a fake injury for him and PUP'd him, then after all that wanted a first rounder for him despite refusing to pay him due to the RB market (and arguably the position in general) dying?

Oh, a masterclass in being an absolute piece of crap owner :hot:

Don't forget they also handed out the 2nd highest contract in history to a kicker this offseason!

Even if you are of the opinion that Taylor didn't deserve a new deal, I can't help but think this makes Indy look stupid when it comes to other FAs. Like why sign with a team with a crazy owner, who badmouths his players publicly?

if he offers the most money they will sign. Just like all those people who signed with Snyder's team back in the day.

You are probably right. On the flip side, if he was offering the most money, we wouldn't be in this situation in the first place.

Smart money tells you to drop your kicker for Hunt and wait for him to be signed. You are welcome.

Only slightly wavering because of the rule about being on the roster week 1 = contract fully guaranteed for the season. Am I remembering that right? Any chance they go with whoever they've got for one game, then sign Hunt after to fill out the rest?

4 years, 22.5 million, about 13M of which is guaranteed and averaging 5.5 per season. Announced in the middle of all this. Then they don't open the wallet for JT to get $7M :lmao:

I recall reading that if he’s dealt, the new team is *not* required to PUP him for 4 weeks.
Once he's on the PUP after the 53 man roster is set, he has to miss at least the first 4 weeks.
Only if he stays with the colts I believe I’d read.

If they deal him to say, the Dolphins, they do not have to PUP him.
As he said, you are incorrect- he has to remain on even if traded. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/report-jonathan-taylor-stays-with-colts-remains-on-pup-list

Even if traded, per CBS.

Colts to keep Jonathan Taylor on PUP list after no trade materializes, star RB set to miss first four games

What a crap show. I cannot believe Taylor walked himself into this after what happened to Bell a couple years back and the way RBs have been shafted in general. Irsay is going to gut him and you watch he isn't active for a single game and doesn't get traded and Irsay jizzes on his guitars.

Irsay seems like a complete tool, but again, we have no idea what JT was looking for here.

Look, Irsay and the Colts are doing the right thing. JT is under contract and if chooses not to honor it, that's all on him. I'm sick and tired of players not honoring their contract. I don't care if he ever plays for Indy again, and if he doesn't and he is not traded, then his butt is sitting on his couch without a paycheck. Good riddance as far as I'm concerned.
