RB Kyren Williams, LAR (1 Viewer)

Are we at a point where we need a TD to have a good day from KW? Something is off for sure.
like I’ve been saying, he’s really wearing down and they don’t seem to care
What gives you the idea that he's "wearing down"? Seems to be doing fine to me. The only change recently is that he scored 10 TD's in the first 8 games, and 0 in the last 2 games. That's random luck, not wearing down.
I was watching that game last night and was thinking both RB's looked a little worn down. Massive workloads, early bye, not the biggest RB's.

I can't prove it, don't have GPS data so if you say you don't agree that's all good. Just looked like to me.
yup

Guys I haven't watched a lot of Kyren but he's obviously put up good numbers that last 2 seasons (top 7 in our PPR league this past year) and I'm not sure what a fair market price for him is at this point. In one of my 12 team PPR dynasty leagues I was offered Kyren for the 2.5 pick this year and my 1st in 2026 (my roster is middle of the road, so I'm guessing worst case 1.5 to best case 1.10 rookie pick in 2026) Is Kyren worth that? Thanks for any thoughts on his value

Depending on whether or not I thought an additional RB1 would push me into contention territory, I think I'd pay it.
Mind looking at my roster and then telling me how you'd lean? I feel like he would improve my starters but I'd still be pretty thin at talent after the starters (although hopefully 1.5 lands me a good player)

Stafford, Penix, Cousins
Chase Brown, Brian Robinson, Dobbins, Brooks, Corum, Ford, Gibson, McNichols
McLaurin, Addison, Waddle, Deebo, Doubs, Diontae Johnson, Dotson, Slayton, Noah Brown
LaPorta, Pitts, T. Hill
Picks 1.5, 2.5, 3.5, 4.5

Yeah I mean, if you just sit on your hands and do nothing you are going to stay middle of the pack with that roster, be surprised if you're anywhere near the best teams or playoffs. But Kyren, and another top RB like Judkins definitely works for you. Having Blake Corum definitely insulates you to some degree as well, although you never know what happens in the draft.

I'd do it. 2026 doesn't look like a good fantasy class right now.

I might be in the minority here, but I think I would pass.

Most reports are that Kyren was a volume performer and not an efficient value. His volume is expected to take a hit with Corum being more incorporated for touches. Kyren does not have the physical traits (size/weight) to handle high volume for extended time. He just is not built for that role.

I don't see him worth that cost IMO. I would think the deep RB rookie class will surpass his value by mid-season.

I'm just not seeing it as a particularly big cost. Low value 1st round pick in the future and mid 2nd. Not a lot in my eyes.

But if you think Kyren is going to fall off then fair enough.

I think he's worth it I just don't like giving up my future firsts so not sure I'd do it but I think he's worth it.

Offense is in great shape, he's done nothing but produce as a top 5 RB, and it was really nice to hear Snead at the end of the year say something like "he's a Ram" and extending him was a priority.

If your roster is middle of the road, I don't think Kyren is winning you a championship tbh. And no offense, but looking at your actual roster in your later post, I'd say it reinforces that thought for me.

You don't have even one elite player on that team. Addison is your best WR, who is about WR22 start up value and also behind a top 2 WR in the league on a team that just lost their QB. High hopes for Penix (edit. meant JJ McCarthy sorry), but he's pretty much a rookie this year and a complete unknown. Plus Addison could still miss a couple games with the DUI. McLaurin tripled his TD numbers this past year and is primed for regression there. Even if you don't expect that, he's turning 30 years old this season. Chase Brown is your best RB at ~RB15 give or take. Robinson your 2nd at ~RB27 and I'd say about 80% of NFL mocks put the Commanders drafting a RB in the first 3 rounds. And your starting QB is 37 years old and likely year to year at this point. Penix looked good in a very small sample end of last season, but again, it's a question mark; certainly not to be considered even a QB1 at this point.

IMO your much closer to a rebuild than a championship due to roster age and existing holes. The last thing I would be doing is trading away picks for a RB who already has 4 seasons under his belt. Even if he stays a top 10 guy for the next 2-3 years, think what your roster looks like during that window? Especially if you are giving away a 2nd this year and a 1st next. You'd basically need to get incredibly lucky with your mid round lottery ticket draft picks, and have everyone on your roster put up some of the best seasons they've ever had.

Use your 2.05 this year to draft a RB in this incredibly deep class. You should be looking at guys like Devin Neal, Dylan Sampson, and Cam Skattebo; guys who IMO would normally be mid to late 1st round picks most other years. I'd see if I could shove off points by trading Stafford, Deebo and Terry, hope for a better draft pick next year, acquire more picks in 25 and 26 for trading those guys, and it gives your younger guys more time to hit stride.

Great advice, and I took it, turned down the trade offer. Thanks so much.

Right call I believe. I think you ultimately would have regretted that.

You trade for the stud. The 2.05 and the unknown future 1st? I couldn't hit that accept button fast enough.
Young feature RB in a high powered offense.
If his roster had at least 2 of Chase, JJ, Lamb, BTJ, ARSB, Nabers, Barkley, Bijan, Gibbs, Achane, Bowers, McBride, Allen, JDaniels, Burrow, Jackson (you get my point), I'd 100% agree. In a vacuum, the price is fair to ask for Kyren and it could be a good trade that makes your team better. But when you consider his roster, especially the ages and situations of his best players on that roster, all that move will likely do is bring him from 1 game out of the playoffs, to getting beat in the 1st round of the playoffs.

Just my opinion of course. But as a Steelers fan IRL, I'd rather run my make believe team with the goals being higher than "just being competitive and maintaining a better than .500 win-streak" every year haha. Better to be first or last in dynasty leagues in my experience, than caught in the purgatory of middle of the pack.

Late to the party, but I would have asked how well you've drafted in the first two rounds the last few years. If you're not hitting on studs w/ your picks, don't be afraid to move them.

When he signs his extension do people think his ADP will shoot up at least a little? I do, not saying it should, but I do expect him to sign an extension and put to bed any fears of him losing his job and his ADP will creep up.

If he signs, his ADP will go up without question.

I agree. He looked pedestrian to me last year and just feasted on volume and GL work which is what has made me skeptical of him but an extension is enough ofa sign they are committed to give him a bump for 2025.

I agree as well and just the fact I know they are trying to extend him is why I'd drafted him a few times despite agreeing he's looked average and other then James Cook is biggest TD regression candidate in the league. But I've known all off-season they are working on extending him so one thing I never was concerned with was Corum or Hunter usurping him. They love him.

Chance he does not like their offer and passes, but unless it's a super low ball offer that does not seem like a good idea.

The fumbles were a big problem. He is incapable of making explosive plays and despite being hyped as a good receiving back, he hasn't been. So while the new contract does help, I don't think it pushes me all the way in on him.

Yeah but frankly none of that matters to me if they believe and trust in him as they have shown and would ostensibly continue to show by wanting to extend him. That's why I put so much stock in his possible extension.

He absolutely "just feasts on volume and goal line work." And we don't have any reason to believe that will change in 2025.
I have a start-up 12-teamer coming up and looking at ADP, Williams is right there when I start looking at RBs.

That said, so are Chase Brown & a few others. I’m unlikely to draft any of them, but KWill is lower on my list than they others - I agree he doesn’t pass the eye test.

His greatest strength seems to be scoring 2 TD when I’m facing him H2H, every damn time.

McVay seems to love him, but I just do not see them extending him after the season for what he would presumably want. The fact that they have drafted RBs and in the 3rd and 4th rounds the last couple of years seems to point to the possibility of letting him test FA.

Gonna chalk this up as "coach speak" and "BSOML (Best Shape Of My Life):

Rotoworld -

"Rams RB coach Ron Gould told reporters that Kyren Williams has looked “more explosive” during the offseason.
Williams put together a solid season, but his 27 explosive rushes — runs for more than 10 yards — were tied for just 11th in the NFL last year. The 24-year-old has competition in the backfield with Jarquez Hunter and Blake Corum in the fold, but if Williams can show the ability to break off more big carries on top of being one of the best short-yardage backs in the NFL, he should remain the bellcow for the Rams again in 2025."

Yeah what does explosive look like for a small back with 4.65 speed. With all the press regarding his bad underlying metrics and the trade up for Hunter it’s possible he feels the need to ball out which increases his injury risk.

That doesn't seem right. He is working out more and trying to be a better player or "ball out" as you put it and that increases injury risk?

I have never heard that once about a player in any sport.

First I said it was possible. Athletes do at times overextend themselves pitchers who are injured trying to increase their velocity. Weightlifters who pop a muscle.
Athletes do push themselves to improve their performance to be the best they can be. My point about Kyren is that there has been a lot of talk and facts about his lack of explosiveness and long runs. It’s a missing element in the Rams offense. He’s a volume back a good grinder.
So it’s good he’s working to improve himself but I think there is pressure on him to improve to show explosiveness. There is a limit on what he can do and to me it increases a possibility of a hamstring injury.

Pro athletes are not working out by themselves or figuring out their own workout programs...every detail is accounted for at this level and all negative factors are part of the equation...if he gets hurt it won't be because he put a lot of effort into his offseason training regimen.

He was great for me the last two seasons on my keeper squad. Key reason I made it to two consecutive championships. But it was time to move on this off-season and I traded him away in a package deal to acquire BTJr. I just see everything trending down for him and I do think Corum will have a larger role in year two.

I prefer my RBs just sit on the couch all off season. Less chance of injury

Getting a guy who finished RB7 the past two years, still on the same team, in the same system, with the same coach, with 0 significant competition added.... as a late third/early fourth round pick? He's the archetype for anyone with a 0 RB redraft strategy. I mean if you're comfortable taking a non-Jeanty rookie or someone in the next tier like KW3/Chuba/Kamara as your RB1, sure; but otherwise I think he's the option. Only other RB currently in that range is Breece Hall and give me Kyren over Hall drowning on the Jets 9.5 times out of 10.

I think he goes around RB 10-12 early round 3 typically, but he's a nice pick there at ADP

Another nice thing about Kyren is that his handcuffs are relatively cheap too.

There is a chance Corum and Jarquez eat into his workload, although that was supposed to happen last year and here we are again.

They are cheap but part of that is because there are 2 of them and we don't know which one is the guy to have. No way I want to use 3 roster spots/picks on one backfield.

I'm not sure I agree with comparing a Kyren departure from the Rams to Kevin Greene and Jerome Bettis, but he is an important piece for the Rams. The ppg difference is eye opening...

With Williams on the field, the Rams average 27.2 points per game. With him off the field, the Rams average 14.3 points per game.

Its important to note that in the 6 games Williams has missed the last 2 seasons, they didn't have Stafford in 4 of them, which is much more likely where the point differential is coming from.
