RB Miles Sanders, DAL (2 Viewers)

Most don't but he has talent and almost no mileage. They don't use him. So might as well get an extra pick. 

 
I have Patterson, J.Williams, and Sermon. The first two are better starts, especially Patterson, and Sermon is on the rise if he continues to improve.

Sanders is a talented back who just doesn't get used for reasons only the staff knows. 

 
Gainwell is the first read when he's in the game. Meanwhile Miles can't even get a checkdown because Hurts doesn't go through his progressions far enough.

I have both but now it's kind of a cluster. Most Eagles games are going to be competitive or they're going to be playing catch up, so I'm guessing Gainwell is the play going forward?

Carolina not likely to be a shootout next week so I'm torn. Probably will start Sanders again and hope against hope they use him.

I am going the other way with Gainwell. If Sirianni didn’t feed Sanders after that MNF debacle and criticism, the writing seems to be on the wall about how he feels about Miles.

Good call. I guess it speaks to how bad Kerryon Johnson and Jordan Howard were to not stick around. 

Although he seems to like Boston Scott even less.

I don’t think so.   Don’t be surprised if Gainwell is the unquestioned lead back by mid season.   Sanders does not seem to be in the plans in Philly for some reason.

Trade deadline is 11/2. If they aren't using him, they might as well get something for him. I would think if you had a young, cheap RB, you run him into the ground and move on when it comes contract time. They seem to be content letting him be their blocking back for Hurts in PP.

Teams need more than one good RB.   I can see why you would say this from a fantasy perspective however.

True. However, I'm unfamiliar with PHI RB room beyond Gainwell. Do they value Scott? Is there a practice squad guy they'd elevate? If they aren't using Miles (who is by all measures a talented back) then why wouldn't they just default to next guy in line?

Scott carved out a role in the previous administrations playcalls but he's not on the radar currently.  Jordan Howard is languishing on the practice squad (which is frustrating since we've had a number of failures at the goalline this season already.  Failure to call a N-S run predicated on possibly not having a big RB dressed.  Howard could fill that role easily).

My take on Miles, based on his low usage last year under Pederson and Duce and now this year with a completely new set of eyes doing the assessment is that he was/is not picking up the playbook.  He is clearly talented and is probably one of their best weeapons on offense.  The only reason you aren't giving him more looks is that he isn't showing improvement in the film room.  Whether thats including blitz pickup or simply play calls i don't know.  I can't think of another reason that two separate regime's are coming to the same conclusion with him.  Unless he porked Lurie's wife or something.  

 
Miles Sanders rushed 11 times for 45 yards in the Eagles' Week 5 win over the Panthers, adding five catches for six yards.

Sanders dominated the backfield work for Philadelphia, but, as has been the case throughout the year, the Eagles abandoned the run early in this game. The team totaled just 13 running back rush attempts. Sanders out-touched Kenneth Gainwell 16-3 and saw five targets to the rookie’s two. The split would be a reason for some optimism around Sanders’ fantasy outlook going forward but the Eagles face Tampa Bay in Week 6. The Bucs have crushed suppressed running back production this year and will be heavy favorites over Philadelphia. Sanders can only be trusted as an RB3 in the difficult matchup.

Exactly. I started Gainwell over Sanders this week and that didn't work out. Philly does not care about running the ball, and I am confused about this style of offense. I'll go back a couple games to Dallas, where the two times Philly bothered to run Sanders, he gashed Dallas for large gains. Hurts is an awful passer. Seems like establishing the run makes their play action far more effective, but whatever.

I made the same mistake re: Gainwell over Sanders, but fortunately Sanders didn’t do anything even with a much higher snap count and utilization. This could actually work in Gainwell’s favor going forward if Sanders isn’t producing even as the “feature back”. Still, winning cures all ills and it could be another Sanders game again next week with limited touches.

I played Collins over both and got about the same as what Sanders had. 

Just trade both with Allen Robinson for Ridley and Singletary (redraft). Got off both those trains as fast as I could.

Yeah, I'm going back to Sanders this week - but I'm not hopeful. 

 
I hope he is traded.......because he is clearly very talented. They simply are a terrible team and a terrible offense. 

Shame.

True but only a handful of his production is coming from called runs.  I don’t know the breakdown but I’d wager a majority of his yards on the ground are from scrambles not designed plays.  

Sanders carries in the most recent games are 11 in Carolina, 7 against KC and 2 in Dallas.  Interestingly enough the two carries in Dallas netted him 27 yards, or 13.5 per carry.  He’s averaged over 4 per carry in every game except for KC.  It’s not like he doesn’t produce when given the rock.  

 
Sanders has run well when given the ball but he doesn’t get the ball.  I’m likely looking to sell him in a package for a back that gets touches.  I value consistency and he’s all over the map…..it’s a shame because he’s a good RB.

Yeah this coaching staff doesn’t know their ### hole from their ear hole when it’s comes to running but frankly, he didn’t get any carries last year either.  With a completely different regime.  Like i said upthread, the fact that two offensive minded coaches are coming to the conclusion that they shouldn’t be using him is concerning.  While I think it may be regarding his understanding the playbook it’s also quite possible that Lurie and Roseman want a “high flying” offense and are instructing Sirianni to throw it 45 times with essentially a rookie QB. I don’t know which scenario is worse but neither spell good news for Miles or his FF ownership group.

I'd be curious to see what kind of value he has, especially in redraft. Can't imagine many people are biting.

You have to wonder if Sanders running out of bounds twice when the team was trying to kill the clock is indicative of what's going on here. Is he extremely lacking in football awareness? Just dense? Or something else?

Seems like Philly is going to be playing from behind so Gainwell looks to be the guy. However Sanders got a bunch of targets last game, although he was unproductive with them. If he continues to see 4-5 targets, it does wonders for his outlook.

I didn't watch the game so I don't know if he was getting any 4 / 2 minute drill work that normally goes to Gainwell for dumpoffs.

I have a tough bye week and will likely be rolling out Gainwell tomorrow night based on consensus rankings. It’s a major decision though because my opponent has Sanders and looks to have to start him. So it will be a very boom or bust matchup in a must win situation for me.

After being burned by Gainwell over Sanders last week, I don’t think I can roll out either of them until there is more clarity on the split - or I need to because of bye week issues.

 
I would have zero confidence in rolling either RB out there.  TB run defense is actually pretty good and neither of these guys have established any expectation for volume.  They'll get receptions, but half of those passes are behind the line of scrimmage and blown up for a loss.  Sirianni refuses to pound the ball at the goaline, electing instead to give passing duties to Greg Ward or run some long sweep play.  The best you can hope for in the RZ is a called run to Hurts.

The only thing piquing my interest this week as a Gainwell owner is the success Gaskin had last week in the passing game and the thought process that the Eagles will be behind. But to be fair, I’m only looking at box score and didn’t watch the game or replay. And also to be fair, Thursday games always seem a little odd and don’t play out as expected.

You may very well be right and FWIW Sirianni is daily getting ripped a new ####### on local radio for his questionable play calling and non-usage of Sanders.  I just can't believe he's going to switch it up until I see it.

Eagles fan here as well. While I think that Sanders looks terrific with the ball in his hands, Gainwell looks like a better football player to me. Don't know if that makes sense?

I love Gainwell and think he'll be our starter next year.  They clearly don't trust Sanders for whatever reason so maybe trade him in the offseason to a team that will use him.  He's got almost no wear on those tires.
