6’2” 217, 26 years old, college Memphis. Journeyman player obviously, but with recent injuries to CMC and Jordan Mason, he could get a look. I prefer the recent signing of Israel Abanikandi more. At this point it’s open competition for whoever backs up Gurendo.

Guess he’s next man up with Guerendo seemingly out, but this offense looks considerably less potent these days.

Still, volume is volume - anyone trusting him this week in the fantasy playoffs? If so, over whom (at the expense of a WDIS question)?

Injuries have ravaged me, so I am down to Taylor, Hunt, Abdullah, Vidal, or Reynolds.

Looks like Taylor is now the leading candidate.

NFL Draft Profile - Lance Zierlein:

Overview

Big runner who needs to learn to run like one on a consistent basis. He has size to impose his will but tends to tap the brakes rather than hit the gas into contact. He runs with decent footwork between the tackles and has good open-field speed to get away from chasers. His vision and burst are lacking a little and he needs a clear point of entry to operate with decisiveness. Taylor might be better off in a system that gives him his gap and lets him go. He has some third-down value in a pinch and has been successful as a short-yardage option in college.

Strengths

Built like a comic book hero. Carries well-defined, heavily muscled frame. Scored a TD every 13.1 carries over the last three years. Good open-field play speed for a big back. Follows his lead blocker with good patience. Size creates advantage to fall forward after contact. Batters run-supporting defensive backs and wears them down. Able to handle some pass-catching duties. Has the size/strength to protect the quarterback with more technique work. Has kick-coverage experience.

Weaknesses

Never more than a committee back at Memphis. Tall, with upright running style. Tight hips. Linear running style lacks fluidity. Gradual getting through the hole and finding freedom. Vision is slightly below-average. Doesn't plant and go from outside zone. Running style lacks tempo and smoothness. Below-average agility to make quick cuts. Usually in second place when attempting to initiate contact.

I think Taylor played well against the Bears when Guerendo initially got injured. He played the 4th qtr and had 25 yards and a TD. I don't see any reason he wouldn't play the vast majority of the snaps on Sunday unless he were to fumble in his first few carries. It's been a case of the next RB up being a bellcow all year for the Niners. Abanakadi may or may not be better but he's only been there 2 weeks and can't be trusted as much as someone who knows the playbook in my opinion .

I'm trying to decide whether to start Taylor or Kendre Miller this week in 2 separate PPR leagues. I'm leaning Miller but am not sure that's the right call.

Debating Taylor vs Jerome Ford.....

Ford more talented and a "known commodity", but with a new QB, might find running room hard to come by.

Taylor on a better (albeit struggling) offense, and I really like his chances for a TD.

What if Abanikandi is active and he’s the guy? I wouldn’t put it past Shanahan.

I think DTR will get a lot of rushing yards himself. I'm not sure if that helps or hurts Ford.
Shanahan is a bellcow RB coach and the Niner's o-line is a big part of their RB's success. Taylor was the bellcow for the 4th qtr against the Bears and had 25 yards and a TD. I don't think he gave them any reason to think he couldn't be the man this week.
