I'm over Clooney . I think the last movie I saw him in that I didn't think was overrated was Burn After Reading

I think Gosling's a promising actor and he sure is dreamy, but has he done a good movie yet at all?

Besides Half Nelson, Lars and the Real Girl, The Believer, Blue Valentine, The United States of Leland, and Drive I can't think of any.

Not to mention Fracture, All Good Things, and Murder By Numbers were all pretty good. I havent seen The Notebook, but all his movies that Ive seen I think are good or better, and Im guessing The Gangster Squad will be awesome.

When I saw this movie ten years ago or whatever it was, I thought it might have been the worst movie I had ever sat through

I think Gosling is one of the best going today but it is true that he doesn't seem to stretch himself too much in his roles. He played the characters from Lars, Blue Valentine, Drive, Ides of March, Notebook, Half Nelson, US of Leland etc is a very similar manner, which isn't a bad thing but I would like to see if he can bring something else to a role.

As much as I like him and as great as I think he is, Id have to agree. Although Fracture was different for him as a hotshot lawyer and in All Good Things he's a crossdresser.JGL has had a lot more entertaining roles/characters

I liked Lars but I have to agree it was nothing like I was expecting. I would probably start with Half Nelson.

caught "the raid: redemption" tonight in the theater. really, really good if you are in the mood for that kind of thing. tense and thrilling pretty much throughout. terrific fight sequences done by a game cast and crew. all parties seemed to know what they wanted to show and do. plot held together too. it's pretty badass really.

Wow. This was much better than I expected and my expectations were pretty high.I've seen a few movies of this ilk in the past couple of years that were very good. This one beats the snot of them, gouges out their eyes and rams a rusty pipe through their larynx. Probably the best choreographed film I've ever seen.4.5/5 stars

i like herzog a lot. i'm glad he's found this avenue for his interests but i also wish he'd get back to making feature films.

Revanche - 2009 Best foreign film nominee. I really enjoyed this would be revenge flick. The director takes time to flesh out the main characters and their relationships before moving onto the turning point and from there it becomes a very tense slow burn as the audience is left wondering if or when. There is an economy of well placed dialogue and no soundtrack but it is a beautifully executed tense drama. I very highly recommend this one for the fans of foreign film.

Poltergeist - This 1983 spooky thriller holds up a lot better than I expected. The effects are for the most part quite good with a few exceptions and the characters do make the occasionally ridiculously stupid decision (GET OUT OF THE DAMN HOUSE YOU IDIOTS!). But otherwise this is still a fun, creepy movie with a few moments that would really mess with any parents mind.

Plus it has Hulk on a horse which is undeniably all kinds of awesome.

Footloose 2011 - Yes I did. Let me just say the I was very good friends with the son of the DoP of the original Footloose and I must have watched that 10 times back in the 80s. I really had no choice but to eventually check out the update. It's not very good. While they give many solid nods to the original they miss on pretty much everything else. I think someone in this thread pointed out that they really took out the fire and brimstone aspect of Lithgow's character out of this film and it just had a very sanitized feel to the whole thing. There was no real antagonist. Anyway I have already written more than this film deserves, except to add that Andie McDowell looks surprisingly good.

The father takes the children with him, again without explanation, on a camping trip. The film moves along the path of exploring the evolution of their relationship in a compressed time frame but at the same time it has a very sinister feel as the audience is wondering why was this stern, borderline abusive father gone for so long and what are his intentions now that he has returned.

The acting from the children is a little uneven but seems to become increasingly strong as the movie progresses and the father has a real sinister James Russo feel to him. This is not a difficult film to follow but it is very difficult to figure out exactly where it is going and when it finally arrives I must say I was absolutely shocked.

Another high recommendation for the foreign film fans.

POM Wonderful Presents: The Greatest Movie Ever Sold-

This one had me laughing. Such a great concept - a doc about product placement and advertising funded solely on product placement and advertising. Just like Super Size Me, Spurlock tends to go more for the entertainment and less the education factor for his movies. Still fun watching him pitch the movie to execs, and watch some of the process and thinking behind companies getting their brands out there. Probably more for people who don't realize how much this is going on in shows and movies, but it's still a fun watch. I know I am going to start using Mane and Tail exclusively now.

Awesome, completely awesome. Drag Me to Hell had it's moments but I've been missing a film like this since the original Scream. Evil Dead 2 is one of my all time favorites.

I've rewatched the new Star Trek a few times since I first saw it a few pages back. The more I see it and let the characters grow on me the more I'm thinking that it is close to being one of the best Trek movies made. It isn't as good as Khan, as I still consider that to be the best sci-fi movie ever made and a top 10 all time overall movie, but it just might be second to it. It easily is better than any of the TNG attempts, especially the last two.

I find myself wanting the next movie now.

It isn't as good as Khan, as I still consider that to be the best sci-fi movie ever made and a top 10 all time overall movie, but it just might be second to it. It easily is better than any of the TNG attempts, especially the last two.

I find myself wanting the next movie now.

I still put it behind 2, 3, and 4.The only reason I don't rank it higher is because the villain is kind of wimpy and his motivation is flimsy at best.

I've rewatched the new Star Trek a few times since I first saw it a few pages back. The more I see it and let the characters grow on me the more I'm thinking that it is close to being one of the best Trek movies made. I would agree that the bad guy was overall not that great. And there were too many plot holes - like the supernova supposidely destroying the galaxy but only getting Romulus (I mean, he could have went to the old Romulus and told them what was going to happen and destroying the Federation doesn't change the fact that the star is going to go supernova in the future) but I think the movie plays better as a character setup of the crew more than anything else and there needed to be a bad guy that (1) was beatable by young Kirk only with a cheating death scenario and (2) changed the timeline so they could venture out from the standard mythos of the old storyline.Basically, I'm ok with the bad guy because he isn't important to me. The casting was pretty close to perfect for all the roles, the little nuggets they stuck in that played homage to the original cast were well done and I have found myself not upset at all at having new people in the roles. So, it worked for me.

When it comes to 3 and 4 I find myself ignoring large sections of those movies. I still don't like that they brought Spock back from the dead. 2 was too perfect to basically revamp in 3 and 4 was a comedy for 90% of it.

I actually didn't know that. I still didn't like it. He must have really changed his mind because he's still doing it.

Agree here. I remembered the first movie as being "meh." But I recently re-watched it with my son, and enjoyed it a lot.
