finally watched Milk. great movie, and Sean Penn is a great actor, but I think I would have gotten the premise without needing to see him try to suck James Franco's face off.

I thought the action scenes were well done, particularly the first one done under the bridge. Though the twist at the end makes the previous 90 minutes of the film feel way to impossible.

It was way less unpredictable then I thought it would be. Sam Neill plays a total doosh vampire. My only issue is with what Ethan Hawke is wearing (of all things). I was imagining the Bee Gees playing in the background and him carrying a can of paint while strutting down the street. Better than Legion and Book of Eli IMO. 3/5

Seriously.......Just because her taco doesn't spill out doesn't mean Natalie Portman doesn't radiate sex in that scene. It's a very terse film, too- makes you squirm. Both Clive Owen & Portman were nominated for Oscars for Best Supporting. It's based on the play, and it even screens like it's on stage... just 4 people, no one else.Kenny Powers said:

500 Days of Summer-Not really a fan of Romantic comedies, but this one is really well done. Fantastic leads, and directing. I was pleasantly surprised.

Orphan was ok. Standard "creepy kid" flick with a twist. All the usual fright tricks are included, many very predicatable. The acting was good all around and the little Russian girl definately fit the role as the creepy kid. Nothing particularly special about the movie though. Maybe I've just seen too many in this genre. 2/5

Dawn of the Dead (1978)
One of my all time favorite horror films. I hadn't seen it in years and Zombieland got me thinking about it again. More head shots than you can shake a stick at. They just don't make films like this anymore. If you haven't seen it because it's "old", check it out.

Awful, and I'm a huge fan of the Mayan history and the end of the world in general. I also liked Emmerich's other disaster movies (ID4 and Day After Tomorrow), but each one gets worse.
1.5/5 (I'd rather watch Transformers 2 or GI Joe again.)

I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell
Apparently this is a really good book based on talking to one of my buddies about it. Strip Clubs, booze, Halo, drunk tanks, and midgets; reminds me of a few bachelor parties I've attended, way less drugs involved though. Better than Bachelor Party 2 or any of the wanna be Hangover crap that has went straight to video since, but probably only going to be appealing to immature males. Extended bathroom joke at the end doesn't really fit. I laughed.

I expected not to like this since no one has given it a positive review. But this movie was perfectly fine. I don't need to see it again. However, I was entertained. Not great by any means, but I'm glad I saw it.

Couldn't disagree with you more. Loved the action.. Loved the Over the top
parts.. Even enjoyed some of the "human" story lines. I saw it in the theater and walked out giving it an EASY 4.5 out of 5 stars on the "Blockbuster Action" scale.Watched it on DVD yesterday with my wife and daughter and still give it a 4 out of 5 and they both enjoyed it for what it was..
a
movie that you put away your reality goggles for a couple of hours and just sit back and enjoy.

If Smoking Aces is on your favorites list, you'll probably love this movie. Took all the plot devices and camera tricks from the first film and magnified them by 10 and then hid it in a very bloated and stupid plot. I was a fan of the original when it was first released but have grown a little cold too it over time. Maybe if I hadn't seen the documentary on what kind of person Duffy was I would have been able to shut the brain off and enjoy it more. The female FBI agent is even more annoying than Dafoe in the original, if that's possible. Duffy's work oozes with self awareness, importance, and and vanity.
He's like an untalented even more pompous Tarantino.

That's a pretty scathing review for a 3 out of 5. I'm in the same boat. Enjoyed the first one when I first saw it, but have grown to dislike it because of Duffy. Will not be watching this one.

I guess it was hard to fault it for it being exactly as I expected. Duffy is trying to turn a very simple story into some kind of EPIC trilogy, kind of exactly what Rodriguez did with El Marachi/Desperado/Once Upon A Time in Mexico.

Maybe it was a clip from the beginning. The boys and their dad have been laying low in Ireland tending sheep all these years. Then, when the beards come off, its on.SPR is someone who needs better roles. He was great in these movies as well as Suicide Kings, but it seems like he is regulated to only straight to video releases.
The BS films are the only ones I've ever been able to stand Norman Reedus. He fits the character to a T.

With the previous two I could at least root for the human race, in this one I couldn't watch them die fast enough.
Both meteorological extremes and mass alien attacks are more plausible than the earth's crust shifting thousands of miles in hours.
Father's willing to sacrifice it all for their families usually always gets my blood going, none of that here.
Maybe I'm just getting more pessimistic with age.

But if you're looking for realism you came to the wrong place with any of these movies (personally I never got over the fact that when ID4 came out Macs couldn't even communicate with PCs let alone alien operating systems.)
DAT was far too preachy for me to embrace. "Ahhhh...global warming is killing the planet and the evil republican vice president (who we swear is not **** Cheney) isn't doing anything about it."

I'm guessing that this has likely been posted in here already because it's an excellent film. Though it's a documentary, it's filmed in an interesting manner and has a suspense film feel in certain sceness. The protagonist alone would make this film. He's one of those people that comes across as so smart that he's dangerously close to crossing the line into insanity. Hell, he may already have crossed that line.
Cool visuals, cool history. Highly recommended.

Not a film, but the 2nd season of Breaking Bad was released yesterday on DVD.
I was up most of the night watching the first 4 episodes. This is as good as it gets for a series. Highly recommended.
Actually leaving work early this afternoon to go home and watch some more.

Over the past several weeks I watched:
The Informant - in the end, I really liked this movie. it wasn't exciting. it was pretty boooring. it wasn't really laugh out loud hilarous. but it was just consistently kind of funny to me. i think the aspect of the movie that i liked most was that they kept narrarating the lead characters thoughts. in a sense, the random thoughts of the main character was kind of the story to me. i thought it was really funny how they depicted the lead character just 'phasing out' of certian conversations (often time important) and thinking about odd things. i think that is very accurate when it comes to real life and i don't know that ive seen it done that often in a movie... and each time they did it it was funny to me. i can completely understand why people dont like it. in the end it was pretty blah... but it was just barely funny enough to me to say that i liked it. i think Damon's character was funny just to look at with the glasses, suit, briefcase, moustache. his character just made me chuckle to myself. not sure why but i also found myself liking it more after the fact as i remembered some of the stuff from the movie. just the look on his lawyers or the cops face when he would tell them very important info that he left out, or lied about was funny.
Up In The Air - It was good. Not sure if I would give it any better then good. I don't know. I could somewhat relate to Cloony's character because I travel a lot for work. I could really related to the airport security scenes. I liked the young girls character... i thought the contrast between Cloony and the young girls character was interesting. tough to explain, but i just left the movie feeling empty... like nothing really happened. the whole 'your job is being replaced by computers' theme seems so overplayed to me it just came across as cliche.
The Hurt Locker - I didn't REALLY watch this movie. my parents rented it. it was kind of on in the background as i was doing other things. i watched maybe the last 1/2 hour or so. my dad's comments were that the movie 'didn't go anywhere'. of what i saw i could agree with that. i really don't like war movies so my opinion is not objective at all here... but it came across much more as a documentary then a movie... which is ok if you are into that type of thing.
Question: was there a movie called Away We Go that got good reviews from FBG? I seem to remember people being surprised at how good it was... kind of low expectation, but pretty good. I swear it was on my On Demand channel, but just recently fell off. Just want to make sure I have the correct title.

Sick and layed up on the couch last night/today so I watched a bunch of movies via netflix watch instantly.

Wow... don't know where to start. This movie was not at all like the netflix description led me to believe. A cross between... High Tension.... and The Hills Have Eyes? Good movie if you like the gritty, gross, horror genre. Very gruesome.

Meh. I guess it's a martial arts movie, and the girl is pretty good, but none of the action is all that different from the rest of the action. Story is bleh.
