Haha, yeah. I thought it was a good movie, and I loved the opening scene. I thought everybody did a great job playing their character (especially Pesci) except Ray Liotta. For some reason I've never liked him in any movie I've ever seen, but have liked many of the movies hes been in. I feel like this movie gave a more realistic look into the the world of crime, as compared to Godfather, The Departed, Scarface, Carlitos Way, etc. I'm not sure if that is true or not but it felt like that to me. Although it felt fairly realistic to me, I liked the above movies more. Good movie, but overrated as a great all time crime/mob movie. Joe Pesci makes the perfect mobster, and I wish he did more movies 20 years ago. Overall I give it somewhere around an 8/10, I would watch it again.

Im sure you realize this, but a lot of that movie is based on facts, so thats one reason why if feels very realistic. Scorsese directing it doesnt hurt either.

I don't think that Liotta is in the same tier as some of the actors in Goodfellas, but I still thought he was excellent.Kev4029 said:

One of my top 10 all time favorite action movies. Big Liotta fan. I'm a huge Copland fan as well. Other great performances by Ray are: Narc, Turbulence, and The Rat Pack.

Phoenix is a decent low budget Liotta flick. He was good as Depp's dad in Blow. More recently, Slow Burn and Even Money were 2 under the radar Liotta movies I enjoyed a lot.
I have Powder Blue and Observe and Report on teh DVR...Maybe I'll watch one tonight

You'd probably enjoy Observe and Report. It's twisted, but also intelligent and made by the same that did Eastbound and Down.Phoenix is a decent low budget Liotta flick. I figured I'd give it another shot since I dont remember much from it and I know what Im getting into now.You'd probably enjoy Observe and Report. It was good, but way overrated. Very inconsistent. Went from syrupy sweet and touching to ridiculous. The two worst parts were Bullock getting in the face of the gangbanger and her telling the coach in a smart ### way "you'll thank me for this", telling the kid how to play football.

Entertaining and funny, just as advertised. Not great but some good laughs. Harrelson was perfect for the part.

You Don't Know Jack
HBO biopic about Dr. Jack kervorkian. Outstanding. I dreaded this movie a bit because, let's face it, this is tough subject matter. But surprisingly, Barry Levinson injected some humor into the movie. Kervorkian's an odd, crusty guy. So he's portrayed as very human and very eccentric. Loved this movie.

KAREN!!!!Anyway I love Goodfella's. Casino is also fantastic. The Departed...awesome. The Godfather and Godfather II...the gold standard.No Escape....awesome B flick. Another really good Liotta flick is Unlawful Entry, the one with he and Kurt Russell and Madelene Stowe where he plays the cop who is obsessed with Kurt's wife (Stowe). Very entertaning...and funny to watch Kurt play a total wimp. That's Snake Pliskin we are talking about man.

Chris Rock's Good Hair. Wow. A fascinating movie/documentary. Behind the scenes look at the African-American hair culture, dealing with their conflict with wanting relaxed hair even though they acknowledge it creates a sort of identity crisis. The making of and use of 'relaxer'. What's a weave, how they're done, and where the hair comes from. And interspersed throughout is the Atlanta Hair Show with looks into the lives of different stylists that are competing.

Been on a comedy kick....
Observe & Report...2nd time I saw it, and I enjoyed it much more than the first time. More of an offbeat comedy than a black comedy. Funniest moments are all pretty subtle but theres good stuff here. Anna Faris should really annoy me at this point, but somehow she remains semi-funny everytime. Dont expect a laughfest, not a must see, but worth watching.....6.3/10
College....I expected it to be terrible, but it wasnt half bad. Obvious ripoff of Superbad with an awkward kid, a fat kid obsessed with sex, and a dork. That said, still had it funny moments and I guess since my expectations were severely low, it was ok....3.8/10
Zack & Miri Make A Porno....Thought this was great and maybe even better than Rogen's more publicized 2008 comedy Pineapple Express. Id probably say it was Kevin Smith's best movie since Mallrats (not counting Clerks II since he already had a foundation to work with there). Craig Robinson was great. Movie was consistently funny. Only negative is Elizabeth Banks doesnt get naked....8.2/10

The Girlfriend Experience
Steven Soderburgh directs real life porn star Sasha Grey in this excellent cinéma vérité piece about a high-priced prostitute. I liked it. It's not the kind of movie I'd see again, but it's very well done. Recommended to viewers that tire of ridiculously big acting performances and Hollywood formulas.

Not as good as I had hoped. It was funny but not hilarious. I love Christopher Walken but he's getting in danger of being a caricature of himself. Still great to see him though. Sam Rockwell was great, so relaxed in the role. The main story focuses on two other people. The black guy from the Hurt Locker and some chick I don't know. They were both good.Definately Rated R. The two women in front of us left after about an half an hour. They weren't amused. Lots of cursing and N-word usage.:XJust got tickets (12th row!) for him with Christopher Walken in a play on Broadway. link Very psyched.

I remember watching A History of Violence in the theater and seeing a couple people walk out in a huff. Dude, the movie has VIOLENCE in the title!Not as good as I had hoped. It was hard watching Sasha grey in a real movie after I've seen her take it in the exit...Goodish movie though and I thought she did a fairly good job, I was kind of confused by the end of the movie with all the jumping around. Sasha grey is pretty damn good looking.jdoggydogg said:

Watched this tonight and I was very impressed. I never really perceived it as a low budget film. The special effects were minimal and the story really did not require a huge budget. I am not normally a fan of time travel movies, but this one was rock solid as a drama/mystery/suspense yarn that happens to involve time travel. Kind of how Vonnegut used to inject it into his novels- not so much as what the story was about, just another element in the story.
I could not believe how much I liked this film. It was very clever and original- it kind of reminded me of Memento in how it used a psychological/supernatural element injected into a well-above average mystery/thriller, using that element as one of the plot devices, not what the story was truly about.
I checked rotten tomatoes to see what others thought and it found that it got 87% from the top critics (88% overall), so I am not alone in my positive reaction to this one.
I really recommend this one, and even tho its subtitled, it also has an excellent English dubbed version, in case you're one of those who avoids subtitles like an illiterate avoids a scrabble tournament.

I agree with this for the most part. A couple humorous moments but that's about it, and I mean literally a couple. The story goes no where and the journey to nowhere isn't interesting, enjoyable, or funny.It was very disappointing, as I find the story of the US Army exploring the use of New Age/paranormal tactics to be very interesting, but this movie screwed it up badly.

Saw this recently and thought it was average at best. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone, and I generally enjoy Soderburgh's movies.Watched Idiocracy tonight. Awful movie, one of the worst I've ever seen. In line with Leonard Part VI.

Agree. Gilliam is one of those artists for whom I have immense respect, but I never seem to be able to sit and enjoy his movies as much as I think I should.The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

Enemy At The Gates...Probably the only war movie from the 2000's that gives Black Hawk Down a run for its money as best war movie of the decade. Despite not much action, the sniper duel keeps it thrilling throughout. All of the scenes where Jude Law and Ed Harris square off are great, especially one in a tractor factory where Harris has Law right where he wants him. The Stalingrad backdrop looks great the entire movie. The only downside of this movie for me is Joseph Fiennes, who I find annoying and hard to watch on screen in anything Ive seen him in (which probably isnt much)....8.1/10
The Butcher...Eric Roberts B-movie where he's the muscle for a mob group, gets set up in a heist gone awry, and comes back for vengeance. Ive always liked Roberts and never understood why after his great role in Pope of Greenwich Village he never really got another shot. He's credited for 187 movies/shows over his career, but the movies he's been in that have actually made it to theaters - and he has decent supporting role in - you can almost count on one hand. That still boggles my mind, but like most any movie Ive watched with him, he's very good in this one. A couple bad ### shootouts and Roberts just doing want he wants make this a decent movie. Cant wait for The Expendables, looks like ER has a major supporting role in it actually

There wasn't anything remarkable or great about The Girlfriend Experience. But I usually give a movie credit for being different.Idiocracy could have been good. All they needed to do was look to Futurama as a template on how to make a futuristic satire.Michael Fox said:

Surprised here. I thought it was disappointing. Not Transformers bad, but more on par with the newest Terminator.
I thought Iron Man 2 was good in Imax. Nothing great, but plenty entertaining.
