Define "good."There are some ridiculous scenes and some terrible acting. But I confess it frightened me more than a little girl watching Jaws for the first time.

That's pretty spot on. The film has plenty of star power and I like many of the actors (Brody, Goggins, Ali, Grace etc) they really don't bring that much to the movie that relatively unknowns wouldn't have been able to do pretty much just as well.It's just not the kind of movie that necessitates someone with Brody's acting chops. Actually he kind of a distraction from the movie a little because I had some trouble seeing him as some kind of force recon mercenary.Predators was more of a remake of the original than an actual sequel. It passes the time, but thats about all I can say.Gonna rent the new Predator movie and also Mirrors 2 tonight. Anyone see either of those yet? Any comments? Feel free to add spoilers.

Was kind of fun listening to Brody talk all hard while his face looks like he is seconds away from crying. He has always had this look and for the most part it really has helped his acting career, but seemed way, way, off for an action film.That's pretty spot on. Me and Orson Welles
I am so impressed with this movie. So many things to like here. Zac Ephron is not yet a polished actor. And yet, he was fine. The star of this movie is Christian McKay as Welles. His performance is so spot on, you'll forget that you aren't watching the real Welles. Fantastic film. Highly recommended.

Predators - Too many homages to the original. The worst is when the Asian stops in the middle of the field strips off his shirt and fights the Predator. Just like Billy did in the original even down to the same music. The Laurence Fishburne character, although interesting, was on waay too short. Not an awful movie, just wish I would have waited until it became a free movie on Comcast OnDemand.

Youth In Revolt - I really liked this movie a lot. i know everyone says the whole Cera type character is getting overplayed... by Cera... but so far it just isn't getting old for me. I still like it. I especially liked the style of the dialogue between Cera and his love interest.
I'm watching Van Wilder - Freshmen Year under the influence of some incense and this movie seems like it might be competing for superiority with the original Van Wilder. This movie is completely predictable, a quality I love in a movie, but the execution is excellent. They are taking the normal jokes you see in movies like this and just raising the bar a bit. I doubt I would rate it over the original in the end, but they are putting up a great fight.

watched Robin Hood with Russell Crowe.
doesn't really do much that we haven't seen before in movies like Gladiator or Braveheart, but I usually like just about anything Russell Crowe is in and Ridley Scott generally makes entertaining films. I'm glad I watched it but not sure I'd recommend it to people.
Cate Blanchett seemed a bit miscast here to me.

Definitely. Very original scene and extremely well-executed. Hard to believe this movie was directed by the same guy that made the Miami Vice movie.

Horrible pacing. Horrible writing. Poor narrative structure not helped by horrible pacing and writing (circular narrative following three stories). Terrible score.
Considering we don't see many movies since the kid- when we see one, it better be decent... (tickets are now $13 in NYC...!, let alone baby-sitting fee)- this felt completely pointless.

Paranormal Activity II Enjoyed it. Several Oh Crap moments. Several hair stand up on neck moments. Tied into the first movie. If you liked the first, you'll probably like this. If you didn't, you won't. I can see where they may have a III.

Then another guy yelled "oh spit" and "oh fudge". I asked him to kindly "c'mon, man". He apologized and settled in to the movie.

Has anybody else seen this? Just flashed through the times and found that AO Scott loved it.I can't reiterate how much I disliked this film and wish I could get those 2 hours back.

The Bounty Hunter wasn't as bad as it coulda been. Typical Aniston fluff and a little disappointed to see Gerard Butler add it to his resume but it's a good date movie, light and amusing. A couple of scenes had me laughing. It was made better by me not having to pay for it. (16 yrold and his gf rented it.)

I wasn't interested in this due to my love(see, Unforgiven)-hate(see, Mystic River) relationship to Eastwood-directed movies and the fact that the subject matter wasn't compelling to me, but I put it on my to-see list only because of that AO Scott review. Sounds like I need to reverse that decision; I trust the Floppy review more than Scott's.El Floppo said:

Hmmm- I liked, not loved Mystic River and loved Unforgiven. Million Dollar Baby- which this one felt more like- I hated. I'd usually trust Scott's opinion more than mine lately- the kid and exhaustion don't leave me too much in the mood to abide most crap in movies I"d otherwise normally like.Oh- let me add that the Eastwood leaves no intrigue or ambiguity in the subject matter here either which, IMO, is the only way this subject matter works. And the circular narrative I entioned before... three story-lines, and they stay in order. Given the pacing (plodding), I couldn't wait for each story scene to finish so I could get on with the next one. And each scene and story arc is so obvious- you're sitting around waiting endlessly for what is clearly going to happen after watching the first 30 seconds of each scene.
Lots of old folk, though (cell-phones going off, but going unshut because the foaghies couldn't hear them.... and lots of "quiet" asides- "THAT POOOOOOOOOR BOY!"). They seemed to like it plenty. My mom is seeing it this afternoon- I'll report back. I usually trust, and more often than not, share her opinion.

I wasn't a fan of Iron Man and it carried over into Iron Man II. It's not even like it was a cgi-fest mess, it was actually a slow to devolop boring storyline. Thank god for Mickey Rourke since he was the only good thing about it. I'm a big Sam Rockwell fan and it's a shame that his talents were wasted here. Just your typical comic book schlock. Nothing to see here. 1.5/5

Splice: Interesting movie dealing with the moral issues of splicing human/animal DNA which then turns into a thriller. Brody is far better suited for this role than he was for Predators. Rather predictable but still good. 3.5/5
The A-Team: Went in with very low expectations and was very impressed. Sharlto Copley (Murdock) was freaking hilarious. Great actions scenes and Biel is still stupidly hot. The scene when they were trying to 'fly' the tank almost had me in tears. Rampage is a perfect fit for BA. Plenty of ridiculous and over-the-top action. One of the better movies in the genre. 4/5

I disagree. Rockwell did exactly what was expected with his character and he did it perfectly I thought Rourke was phenomenal. He poured himself into the role of being Russian and pulled it off convincingly. Rourke was the best actor in every scene he was in, by a wide margin. I also thought Downey and Paltrow played off each other very well.There were problems with cheesiness (e.g. the plans to create the element & Tony's birthday party but Downey even managed to salvage that with asking the DJ to play some phat beats to kick Rhodey's ### to which got aSam Rockwell was so wasted in this pic. But if you were expecting much more you probably went to the wrong film.

I really enjoyed this film too. I strongly encourage people who aren't fans of Ferrell to give this one a shot because he really steps outside his wheelhouse and performs very well.

Fictional version of the Teamsters with Stallone as the Hoffa figure. Does a terrible job at following the 3 act structure, its essentially two movies. There is just something about Stallone's cheesy romance acting in the love scenes that comes across as real, maybe because it's so awkward. I enjoyed it, but not sure if I was supposed to take something away from it or not.

Saw this in the theater and loved it. Now I am re-watching with the family. Wow, does this look stunning on blu ray. I am very impressed with this movie. One of the best animated films I've seen in years, and easily as good as most Pixar movies.

Too bad it went up against Silence of the Lambs. I think this should have won best picture.

Seems like this is the standard for comedy movies lately - be fairly funny for about 45mins to an hour and then drag on for the next hour. I think The Hangover is like this, as are several other comedies lately. There is some funny stuff in here for sure, but I just found myself checking the clock towards the end. I'd probably watch it again if I stumbled across in on HBO, but that's about it. Worth it for the songs/videos if nothing else. 5/10.
Up next I have Winter's Bone and The Girl Who Played with Fire.

I agree, mostly. Although I really liked the movie and laughed several times. Many modern comedies seem to follow the Judd Apatow model: very funny at times - especially early, but a bit preachy and overly dramatic in the final 1/3. It's a shame that more comedies don't aspire to be true, 100% comedies anymore. Observe and Report did a decent job breaking from this mold.

I don't know. I think she's perfect for the part. She's not overly hot but thinks she is, just like her character.And anyone else might not be as believable in falling for Lester.
