It was exactly what I expected and I liked it.Lots of action, explosions, evil bad guys, likable good guys, etc.Watched it last night...After the first couple scenes with painstakingly bad attempts at humor, Sly and Statham had pretty good banter. Was worried about all the wrestlers being in it, but Stone Cold just looks mean and Couture has about 5 lines. Couldve used some more Willis and Rourke, but oh well...Over the top gore at times was laughably fantastic. Enjoyed it for what it was...7.8/10

I really liked the movie. I thought the point was that it was supposed to be a struggle, so their scenes were uncomfortable in a way. For them to have had a more palpable sexual tension, they would have had to be more comfortable with the feelings that they were having. Maybe it got a little more hype than it deserved b/c of the subject matter, but I still thought it was a beautifully shot movie.Brokeback Mountain
I wasn't sold on the emotional connection between Jack and Ennis. There wasn't really any sexual tension between the 2 men. Anyone here like the movie?
The ending was sad though.

Ang Lee's made two of my favorite movies (The Ice Storm and Crouching Tiger), but Brokeback was a failure in some regards. I agree with Sea Ropes' opinion that the relationship didn't feel real. For a real portrayal of a gay romance, A Single Man was far more convincing. Add to that problem Jake Gyllenhaal's fake mustache, and I didn't care much for the movie.I really liked the movie. Rote comedy with Zach Galifianakis and Robert Downey, Jr. Not great by any means, but the movie does have some fairly black comedy that I enjoyed. Not a classic, but it'd be a blast to watch while high.

Came in knowing nothing about it, and that's probably why I enjoyed it as much as I did, though the ending felt rushed.
Anyone with 90min to waste and wanting to watch a film I suggest watching this movie. I also suggest not reading anything having to do with the plot of the film, having it unravel before you is the best part of the film imo. All you need to know is it's a low budget French film rated R and it's not a porno.
I really enjoyed this movie. And knowing nothing going in is the way to see it.

Watched Best Worst Movie last night. Recommended for those that like documentaries. Tells the story of the supposed "Worst Movie Ever Made" in Troll 2. Starts slow, but I enjoyed it. The director of Troll 2 comes off as a huge doosher. I've seen clips of the movie before, and they were laughably bad. This film definitely makes you want to see it, although it does seem that those that it appeals to are largely gay, NTTAWWT. Found it today that Troll 2 is on streaming, so I'll check it out in the near future too. (4/5)

This might have to go on my list...almost. The first thing I read about this movie was that it was important to see it without having read much about it, and I'd recommend the same and will not say much. I will say that starting at about 40 minutes into the film, it becomes the most difficult and tense movie I've ever seen (which is saying a lot). I felt like I was going to vomit for the rest of the movie because it was so difficult to watch. It has nothing to do with actual violence--there is very little blood or violence in the movie. I can't describe it--you'd just have to see it. In addition, the movie is extremely well acted and beautifully shot (it is in black and white). Highly recommend this one, but not if you are looking for anything at all light or happy. I can't get it out of my head. 5/5

Rented this last night. The wife wanted to see it. I'd give it a 3.5 as well...on a scale of 1-10. I think I laughed about 4 times. The rest of it was slapped together and uneven.

Mrs TRF and I got it last night. She's been wanting to watch it for quite a while, so we rented it. Well, it's almost 2.5 hours long. It's got Julia Roberts. It's got a few other good actors. I'll give it a 1.5 out of 5. (that high because of the pretty(beautiful) scenery.)

It started off okay, the middle was shaky, the last half-hour was lousy. I don't care about the plot with these movies, there just wasn't enough funny lines.

Thanks so much to all the people who recommended this movie in this thread. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Would make a great double feature with Frozen River - which plays on some of the same thematic material. The lead actor was fantastic. I found it very poignant that the one guy that was protecting her was about as dangerous to her as anyone in the movie.

13 Tzameti gave me an idea. Mr. krista4 and I both hate the silliness of New Year's Eve. So I suggested that instead we cook at home and each select five movies that the other hasn't seen, and watch them over the course of NYE and New Year's Day.
For my five, I'm considering (having confirmed what he has and hasn't seen) the following as a cross-section of stuff I love:

After watching this two weeks ago, I insisted that my parents watch it. My mom was indifferent and my dad hated it. He might have the worst taste in movies of anybody I know.Winter's Bone was awesome.

It was.I too was a little surprised at how dark a lot of the humor was, but I laughed a lot. Just a notch down from Get Him to the Greek for me, which was the last comedy I saw in theaters. It's like a meaner, less abrasive version of Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.

The Other Guys: Hardest I've laughed at a movie in a loooong time. Just freaking hilarious. I'm not sure whether it was intentional or a "giant screwup" but early in the movie Samuel Jackson and The Rock have medals around their necks while giving a speech in the police station. In the middle of the speech they turn to Marky Mark and Will Ferrel to tear a strip off of them... when this do this, there is no medals around their necks. Camera switches to a different angle and the medals are back. 5/5

This one really surprised me. It's hard to believe this was made 80 years ago. One thing I like about older movies is that you get some insight into the mindset of the time period. That aside, this was simply a good movie. It was thought-provoking, had a social conscience and had a good car chase scene towards the end.

I wonder if it's more a matter of entertainment preference than good taste. I know some very bright people that only want to watch fun, entertaining movies. They think real life is sad enough, so they want to feel happy and entertained. Heck, one of the smartest guys I know can't watch The Office because it makes him feel too uncomfortable.Kev4029 said:

I know you've got Egoyan covered, but I'd throw out his Exotica as another of his lesser seen films that transcends. I think I've mentioned that a gb in gradschool rented it thinking it was going to be soft-porn... he fell and the rest of our friends fell asleep watching it, and I was transfixed.

Bus 174 is there because I wanted to throw in a documentary, since it's generally my favorite movie form. The problem is that Mr. krista4 has seen so many documentaries, too that it's harder to find an unviewed one. I also considered Paradise Lost, since he somehow missed that one, but I like Bus 174 even better.
Ah crap, I just remembered that I wanted to throw either The Color of Paradise or Children of Heaven on the list. I need to convince him I can have a list of 10.

As Krista insists that she has seen both Slapshot and Unforgiven a sufficient number of times, that might be the only aspect of modern cinema about which I am more knowledgeable. Wife and I streamed Angels and Demons this weekend. Maybe I'm easily entertained (yeah, prolly) but I kinda liked it. The "twist" was obvious, and supplying the viewer with info by having Tom Hanks yell educational history (or non-history, if you think Dan Brown makes stuff up) to his sidekick while running through catacombs or spinning around in a cathedral is kind of an annoying technique. But Ron Howard knows how to set powerful scenes, and the backdrop of Catholic politics intrigued me. Worth a watch, I think.

Probably more fun at the time that it is now. John Sayles script provides plenty of tounge-in-cheek moments. Alligator emerging from the sewers through concrete was classic, as well as terrorizing a wedding. I'd rather watch this than some crappy Sci-fi Original CGI fest.

I've seen every episode of Saved By the Bell way too many times to have waited so long to see this. Pure cult, over exaggerated crap. Best part is that it treats itself like its a Scorsese epic. Most unrealistic rape scene in film history.

I haven't seen it recently, but my lasting memory of the Showgirls is that given the amount of beautiful nude women in the movie, it's the least sexy movie I've ever seen.
