Saw I am number 4 yesterday. Another been there done that, but my wife liked it. To me we've seen it all before. And none of the performances were all that. Just very formulaic. If you couldn't see what was coming a mile away you haven't been to many movies.
Yes. I saw it less than two weeks ago and could not tell you a thing about it. Everything in it was an inferior re-hash of something I'd seen before. I loved the concept, hate hate hated the film.
Yeah the concept was interesting but they killed it real early. But Michael Bay was involved so deep was probably out of the question. Even ankle deep.

Just Go With It:

Another subpar entry into the romcom genre. The problem I have with most of these lately is that the leads don't seem to have much chemistry together. In a genre that where just about every movie feels the same, that is everything. There were several scenes that felt like there wasn't a script and they were just filming Sandler and Aniston ripping on each other and it fell flat. There are better options in this genre out there, even if Brooklyn Decker was looking quite good. 4/10.

Get Him To The Greek

I saw this when I was very high originally. And I saw in a crowded theater where the laughter was infectious. So I wasn't sure I'd like it a second time. But I'll give the movie props: I think it holds up better than the second viewing of The Hangover. Nothing great in this movie, but what can I say? Brand and Hill are funny. And "African Child Worst Thing To Happen to Africa Since Apartheid" is a brilliant line. Thumbs up.

The Trip

Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon travel through Northern England reviewing fine restaurants and working on their voice impressions. Hilarious. This hasn't been released in theaters yet, but my British pal bought it from Amazon.uk and had it shipped here. It's going to be packaged as a film in the states, I believe. But the form I saw it in was a six part series. Highly recommended for Coogan fans.

TRAILER
with the chatter about this "movie", i decided to throw myself into episdoes of "saxondale". watched the first one last night. it's not hysterical but still very funny. coogan does nice work and i can see the love he has for the character.

I just started that myself on Netflix on-line. Pretty funny. So far, I can say without hesitation that Coogan is comic gold.

Mad Men:

Just started this last night (got through 2 episodes) and was quite surprised how much I enjoyed it. The ad business interested me, so I liked that. Also have to chuckle at all the smoking in the episodes - fit with the times, it's just funny to see a doctor lighting up before the pelvic exam. The only thing I didn't like was the women/men interactions in the office. Seemed a little too much, but it's a small beef and I'll definitely continue with the show. One of the more interesting shows I've tried to watch lately.

:hifive: Love this show.

What the #$*! Do We Know!?

Quantum theory? Explanations and hypothesis about what reality? These are subjects I find endlessly fascinating. So now I'll post a positive review, right?

What a phenomenal failure this movie is.

The documentary interviews several scientists and physicists about the nature of reality and quantum physics. Had the director just edited the interviews together, I think this movie would have been outstanding. But the flaws here are just unforgivable. First, we get to see actress Marlee Matlin in stupid little vignettes that are supposed to, what, make the subject matter more interesting? I need little sketches with actors to hold my interest in a movie like this? Second, there's a constant, unrelenting music score that's turned up so loud in the mix, it's often as loud as the experts - so you can't easily hear what they are saying. Third, none of the interviewees are credited while they are talking. So you have no idea who you are listening to.

I love that someone wanted to make a movie like this. But the director made the enormous mistake of assuming that this riveting subject isn't interesting enough without a bunch of moronic bells an whistles.

Tripped to this once. Only the first 5 minutes were coherent even then.

Yeah, this movie would be far better on LSD.

Koyaanisqatsi - I'll probably take some heat from the Illuminati on this one but I didn't last more than 15 minutes watching this. Apparently stock footage and Gregorian chanting for 90 minutes just isn't in my wheelhouse.

Is this the one that shows the giraffe getting shot in the neck?ETA: Nevermind, that was Sans Soleil I was thinking of.

If you'd have said weed, I'd agree. But the movies I like are often too dark and disturbing to enjoy on LSD.

The Fifth Element

Pretty terrible sci-fi/action/adventure flick. The dialogue was terrible, pretty well every actor who had a minor role in this film was beyond terrible (whoever did the casting of the minor characters needs to never work cast for a film ever again), the plot was stupid, most of the characters in the film were idiots, and the humor was very childish. The movie reminded me a lot of Idiocracy with the sets and a lot of the characters being imbeciles. The leading actors (Bruce Willis, Milla Jovovich, Chris Tucker, Gary Oldman) were all good though and combined with some interesting sets and cool gadgets kinda saved the movie from being a complete ####storm. I never really thought Jovovich was that hot before, but she was crazy hot in this film; she should think about having her hair bright red on a permanent basis.

I can't tell you how much I loathe this movie. Ruby Rod is worse than Jar Jar Binks.

Just started Season 3 of Breaking Bad. I'm pretty confident that this is the best series still on tv, and yes I realize there is a lot of strong competition to be making that statement.

I also didn't realize Season 4 of Mad Men was on DVD already. I've been getting a little carried away with Netflix's streaming selection.

:goodposting: But I still really enjoyed this movie. Its fluff, but Willis and Milla can hold my attention. Now, please stop bringing up movies that I was tripping to the last time I saw them.

i remember seeing it - or large portions of it - back in the day. i love phillip glass, so i don't mind it so much. i even remember seeing bits of it on SNL. that said, i can see where this film probably hasn't aged too well.

this was the movie that i gave up on luc besson. he did some great films like the under-rated "big blue" and "the professional(leon)" but he went off the rails here and hasn't really come back. this is a pretty terrible movie.

The bolded can't get much truer. Might be the worst character and portrayal I've ever seen. And yet, I still love the movie in a guilty way.

oh yeah... Milla is sooooooo hot in this. We used to use her character name as the call-sign for somebody really, really, really hot... Lelu?

I would've put the giving up on Luc Besson at The Professional, which I genuinely disliked- the cutesy/smarmy relationship between Leon and Portman annoyed the #### out of me, as did the direction during all of their scenes together.

I've seen some absolute ####e movies lately... The Fourth Kind & The Rite. Not much to say about them really... other than "bad". I can't wait for the wife to stop being pregnant so I can finally pick some movies.

Fourth Kind was easily the worst movie of 2009 in my book.

There you go getting all uppity again. Leon was awesome.

The uncut edition of the film displays a significantly different version of their relationship, there are about 20 minutes of added scenes that focus specifically on that. She gets drunk and plays Russian roulette in this version, separate scenes.

Yeah, Mila is smokin' hot. But this movie is a mess. I haven't seen 12 Monkeys in a long time, but it seems like these two would make for an apt double feature.

Love Boardwalk Empire and Mad Men. But yes, this series is phenomenal. And network dramas should watch this show and feel shame at how bad they are.

lol did you ever hear about that story where a few orchestra members refused to play a Phillip Glass piece and walked out? Let's just say that his compositions are...repetitive.

Dude, get the "two at once" Netflix account and stop watching that ####.

Anybody else watching Game of Thrones on HBO? I'm liking it a lot as a sci-fi/fantasy fan.

But I never read the books (there are books, right?) and I'm afeared to the dickens of going in that thread... I"m guessing way too much :nerd: for my uppity ###.

most nights, the only time I get with the wife is chilling over a movie or show... not a lot of "me" time available. But I like your thinking.

Do you know how that movie was conceived? Remember that author that Oprah deified and then destroyed because he plagiarized his work? That same guy started a business that fosters young writers who write novels with the expectation that they'll be optioned for the screen.

Which thread? The book thread or the show thread. Show thread has some talk of the books and people are careful about spoilers. Also if your'e a sci-fi/fantasy fan you're already :nerd: so get over yourself... ;)
