I'm with you. There were a couple of good scenes but overall it was pretty bad. I fast-forwarded through most of the scenes with the girlfriend and they seemed to go on and on even at a fast speed. The fights were ridiculous, his friend was annoying. The only comparison to Slap Shot was that they are both about hockey players.

Ed Burns' new film, A Fitzgerald Family Christmas, was one of his best in a while IMO
Doesn't mine any new ground, but he deftly weaves the holiday family angst story through all of the characters without it becoming sappy or overwrought

This was definitely the start of Carrey being a better dramatic actor than comedic, and having better dramas than comedies.

I think expectations may have really helped this one, but it was surprisingly funny. Pretty bad but a lot of lol funny moments, if that makes sense. While not as funny, Id still say Funny People and Big Daddy were definitely better movies than this.

Watched this a couple weeks ago, pretty good I thought. Typical SLJ, but entertaining as usual. I dont know if I just came up with this theory or the movie purposefully was going for that, but I thought it had a real nice and unexpected twist ending. Good dialogue. Its your standard 3/5 fare Id say, maybe a little better because of the ending.

In a strong year I wouldn't call it an Oscar contender. But this year who know's. It's really good. Nice to see DeNiro put in a good performance. Soak it up while you can.
Lawrence is terrific. Plus a C. Tucker sighting.

Overall I'd give it a 8/10. Solid flick with some good laughs and you get to see De Niro give a ####. Will say the trailers to this one don't do it justice and went to see this only after the surprising sterling reviews.

Yeah, we watched it. Wasn't bad at all. Wasn't thrilled with some of the acting and music, but the story itself was entertaining enough. Could have shown the actual killings too. It was always [show guy with gun, camera pans away, you hear gunshot, then camera pans to victim].'Kenny Powers said:

I'm guessing I get hit for this, but I don't care. Couldn't sleep last night so I watched My Fair Lady . Without question one of the greatest movies ever made. I know it's in the AFI top 100 of all time, though I think it's in the 80's or 90's. I usually will watch when it's on, though that isn't often these days.
Rex Harrison was awesome in one of the greatest misogynistic characters of all time. If you don't like musicals so stay away from them out of fear that you might be enjoying it, you are missing out on a great movie.

DVRed one of my favorite movies... The Third Man... and have been watching it in pieces when I can. Still love it on so many levels: music, writing, acting, amazing use of black/white (let alone the cinematography in general), and it has what my be my favorite closing scene.
I guess if someone can list Duck Soup in that "B" or Bad movies you have to beg your friends to watch thread, I can list Third Man, right?

Yeah, I thought the not showing the killing part was because they were trying to make it seem like SLJ was imaginary, part of Wilson's psychotic breakdown and Wilson was killing everyone. I thought thats what they were going for but maybe not. Made for a nice surprised with the ending.

Completely surprised by the 5.7 rating after watching this. I really enjoyed it and think it's an 8/10 - very well done. The movie stars Sasha Roiz (the police captain on Grimm) as a scientist who finds a way to get into people's memories. See it when you get a chance and you won't be disappointed.

I had written off Sandler after that POS Jack and Jill. Seemed like from the trailer I saw of That's My Boy, it was more of the same - Sandler doing his annoying as hell drunken voice (not sure what he is going for with his higher pitched voice in movies) for another 100 mins. Zookeeper was cute for the family, but his voice was even grating on me during that movie as well.Sandler's movies are meant to be funny? I didn't realize.

Had a couple decent action sequences, but it really didn't have any of the elements that I love about the first one - namely the grittiness and the back and forth mind screw that the movie was. As expected, this was just a watered-down, slick version of the original. If Kate Beckinsale wasn't so damn hot, I probably would have turned it off. 4/10.

Checked out The Avengers this weekend. I'm not the biggest comic book fan, although I loved Spiderman as a kid, so these movies aren't always my thing. I usually prefer the origin stories like Spiderman, X-Men:First Class, the newer Batman series. I had no interest in seeing Thor, Captain America or the Green Lantern, to mention a few more recent ones, but I thought this ensemble cast would be worth checking out. It was ok, much more humor than I expected. I thought the villian was kinda weak and a little goofy. Nothing intimidating about him. The fight scenes had a little too much of a Transformers feel to it. Hawkeye and Scarlett Johannson (hot as ever!)aren't really superheroes and are kinda lame, especially Scarlett with her fearsome pistols against laser shooting aliens. Not sure how you can make it cool, but Captain America's costume is very cheesy. 2.5/5 Worth watching but I doubt I'll ever see it again.
Biggest gripes would be the poor way they transitioned Hulk from a raging monster to helpful superhero and also how all the aliens died when the ship exploded. Were they robots? Seemed like a cheap way to resolve the story.

Drama/Thriller set in the backdrop of the economic collapse. Solid film in all aspects, I don't think I've seen Richard Gere in a film in forever, but he was very good in this. One stupid plot device and a few unnecessary yelling scenes are my only real faults for the film, but I'd still probably say it's one of my 10 favourite films of 2012 so far. 3/4.

Well the Hulk was part of the Avengers at their founding. Banner has had various levels of control over the course of the stories. This time they had him mostly in control during the battle. But the Hulk is more like a force of nature in that control is elusive and rarely for long periods.

OK...I just thought it was kinda weird how just a short time earlier (a matter of hours?) he was an uncontrollable maniac and then he's back with a wink and a nod...let's fight boys! The short conversation with the old man (great cameo by Harry Dean Stanton, btw!)didn't shed enough light onto the transition. Although he did turn very quickly at the end, showing that he had more control.

Allegedly there was a lot more to the conversation that ended up on the cutting room floor. Like several minutes worth. There has been some talk we will see it in the directors cut or whatever form the extended version will take. But I have also heard we will never see it so I don't know.

Wow is red tails horrible. Thankfully George Lucas is off Star Wars. He just cannot write dialouge or direct anymore. It's so cheesy and does not feel like the era at all. It's sole saving grave is that Michael, Wallace and Bubs from the wire are in it.

I agree that it was the easy way out but did we really need to see another 45 minutes of the Avengers cleaning up the remnants of a defeated army? I think it was done that way as a matter of expediency

Very slow and subtle. But very atmospheric and can really take you away. Couple of great performances. Not for everyone.

I was really putoff by Jiro and his eatery. It's hard to tell if Jiro really enjoys the work or if he just takes pride in working non-stop. If it's the latter then i think it's ridiculous. You got money. Enjoy yourself and your family. Plus paying $350 for a meal, food only, doesn't sound all that fun when you have to eat at the chef's pace.
The food and preparations were very interesting though.
