All the adults gave plenty of emotion when delivering their lines. And sure, none of Wes Anderson's films are particularly realistic, but neither are 90% of films that are made these days; he's FAR from alone on that front. And generally, Wes Anderson films are interesting enough that the lack of realism is far from a significant issue, imo.

I wouldn't even bother comparing Anderson to other films- he's amazing at creating his own version of a world. Yeah- it's a world that isn't based on reality, but that's what makes them so compelling and stunningly consistent and stylized throughout the various aspects of the films (writing, acting, lighting, set-design, art-direction, camerawork, etc). I like his work a lot because of the stylized consistency and because I like his humor- but the lack of genuine humanity in it routinely keeps it from transcending into something great, IMO. The films are funny, cute, interesting, visually compelling but ultimately a bit fluffy without a way in for genuine empathy.But it sounds like Tanner doesn't get or want to get the positives from the films and is stuck solely being concerned with wanting a Cassavetes type series of relationships in Anderson's films, which I don't see ever happening.All the adults gave plenty of emotion when delivering their lines. There has to be a certain level of realism. Of course what I posted is true of pretty much all of Anderson's films. It's his shtick. His tired, hackneyed, overused shtick.

There is a certain level of realism but it is mostly a fantasy film in a "real world" setting. More like a reenactment of the distant memories of youth lived than an accurate portrayal of living it shown in real time.

I really liked this one. It tried to have a lot of style and I think it worked. I could see complaints about the ending without a doubt, but it didnt bother me all that much. Oliver Stone somehow made Taylor Kitsch appear to be a good actor and believable as a bad ###, and I thought Benicio, Salma, and Aaron Johnson were all real good. Id go more like 3.7/5.

Can't wait to see it again. Gigantic Andersen fan but was underwhelmed in the theater. With so many people saying its his best, I'm sure it'll kick in like Aquatic did.
Seemed like a movie that was dramatically changed after the initial cut. The Lively voice-over and the ending come to mind.It was mildly entertaining but could have been a lot better. I dind't recognize Tim Riggins with his buzzcut.
I didn't understand what their plan was after they turned down the cartel's offer. Where they going to just flee town? Relocate their business? Why turn down the cartel's offer and make them an enemy if all you were going to do was flee to a faraway beach?

I can agree with this. He has a unique vision and I'm glad he's making movies, but his style does limit what he can accomplish. Finally got to the following:
The Grey - I really liked this flick. A good survival movie with a good ending.
The Dark Knight Rises - just as good as The Dark Knight IMO and wow a great ending as well. I thought Anne Hathaway knocked it out of the park as Catwoman. I loved the twist in the end as well. A really great finish to an awesome trilogy.
Super 8 - Mixed feelings on this one. I did not like the ending much at all, the acting was great but the story was uneven.

Yeah, the should have just done the deal with them, stayed for awhile, made a little coin, they leave when the cartel wouldnt have been watching them as much or suspecting it. It they do that though, you have a less interesting movie obviously

I enjoy a well made drama, but Kings Speech sort of got boring. The acting by Rush, Firth, & HBCarter is the main reason it was watchable. I respect it, but didnt exactly enjoy it, and have no intent to watch it again.

Another Earth - Loved it. Really tense all the way through, and the sci-fi(ish) backdrop produced some nice visuals along the way. The story was really compelling even if the main actress' gloominess started to wear on me a bit through the first half of the movie. It was really one really interesting premise (the backdrop of the alternate Earth) on top of another interesting premise (a teenage girl trying to reconcile her killing someone when driving drunk).
The reviews seem to be hit or miss, with most of the misses focusing on the scientific implausability around the whole idea (obviously another planet would totally screw up our tides, orbit, etc). Meh, it's a stupid point to me as the "other Earth" is really just there as a backdrop and is not the focus of the movie. It's something you need to just accept and not nitpick. My only real complaint with the movie is that I'm getting a bit tired of all these open ended movie endings. It was cool the first couple of times, but now it seems like every "artsy" movie has to have an ending that you have to immediately google and read a 40 page discussion thread on to figure out all the different theories. Let's go directors. Man up, pick an ending, and give it to us. "I wanted to leave it open to interpretation" is just another way to say "I couldn't figure out how to wrap this up, so I'll let someone on the internet figure it out".
In spite of the ending, I really enjoyed it. 9/10.

This is the funniest trailer I've ever seen for a movie coming out next summer called "This is the End." Stars Jonah Hill, Seth Rogan, James Franco, Craig Robinson, and Danny McBride all playing themselves. Might be the movie I'm most excited for next summer now.

I watched a part of this on cable and set the DVR to grab it next time. Very intriguing, low key way of drawing the viewer into the characters (2 that I saw in 15 mins of watching). The last movie that grabbed me like this was My Life Without Me and I loved that one. I thought about a lot of the scientific issues brought up by another planet that close but it became clear really, really quickly that that wasn't important at all.

I stumbled across "Fireproof" on basic cable last night. It's a Kirk Cameron/Jesus movie where he has a failing marriage that he has to save. On its merits, it's 0 out of 4 stars. As camp, it's 3/4.
Also, this movie apparently made $33mm in the theatres, in case you didn't already know that we are doomed.

21 Jump St was surprisingly good/funny for me. Cant think of anything better than it besides Ted right now.Considering Sweeney's argument though, Jump St starred Jonah Hill.
Those guys have really owned comedies for the awhile outside of The Hangover franchise.

Killer Joe...this was really good and I hope it sneaks up into people's best of the year lists. Matthew McConaghey has actually had a few good performances to date despite popular belief, but this was easily his best yet IMO. Acting was great all around, namely by Emile Hirsch and newcomer Juno Temple, who you see plenty of. Great cinematography, direction, and soundtrack. Gets gruesome at times, but otherwise absolutely loved this film...4.1/5
Wasn't my cup of tea and I'm a fan of rushmore, tennenbaums and fox. Not a life aquatic supporter though. Moonrise was in the top 10 on nearly all the filmspotting crew lists.
