If there is one silly fear that I have, it would be alien abduction (mostly being awake during it/remember it). Fire in the Sky terrified me when I watched it. You are right if you are talking on those lines - typical grey aliens. Not sure I want to look to see what Dark Skies is. That said, I still thought Fourth Kind was quite bad. I figured that one would really get me.Just rewatched Fire in the Sky for the first time in like 10 years.Love that movie, can't wait for Dark Skies, hasn't been a good movie about aliens since Fire in the Sky

There were some beatings in it but I'd classify it more abuse than it was torture. Still an entertaining movie IMO.

The Girl Who Leapt Through TimeThe only anime I ever watch is stuff that gets great reviews. Even then I'm usually hesitant. This a good one though. Nice story, good plot twist. Give it a shot and you'll probably like it. 4/5

Reviewed this a couple of years ago and still can't recommend it highly enough.Wasteland: Documentary about artist Vik Muniz and his visit to the biggest landfill in the world in Brazil, Rio de Janeiro.
He helps the "pickers" of recyclable materials by creating art from the exact stuff they pick everyday and sells it to help their organization.
I really liked this as I love a good documentary.

Definitely try it again; you're right that you have to be in a certain mood for it, but if you are, it's outstanding.

Not exactly sure what it's saying, but this is probably as good a horror movie as you are going to get in the last few years. More on the lines of stuff like Stir of Echoes. Ethan Hawke plays a writer researching a murder of a family and the girl who went missing that night. The creepiest stuff was the 'evidence' he finds in the attic. Thought they could have done a better job with the monster and I think they telegraphed the ending a little too much, but overall I think most fans of the genre would dig this one.

I recommend the Mark Maron interview of Solondz. Kind of funny that Solondz is genuinely surprised that none of his movies have been commercial hits.

The Bourne Legacy - Not sure why it got mixed reviews on Rotten Tomatoes; thought it was very good.Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows - Couldn't follow the plot for about the first half of the movie. I'm a fan of Guy Ritchie, but this was not his best work.To Rome with Love - Huge woody allen fan, but this was one of the 'lesser woody films'. TBS a 'lesser wa film' is still pretty good.

The Man With The Iron Fists: Not much of a story and some pretty terrible writing but a visual feast and great soundtrack. 3.5/5
Skyfall: Really liked. Every action movie wishes it could compare to Bond. Loved how they went back to the roots of Bond and how they transitioned into the new characters. 4.5/5

FYI.. If you didn't like Live Free or Die Hard .. do not and I repeat DO NOT see A Good Day to Die Hard.
As most know I am a Action Film junky.. LOVED "Live free".. This one..
Really seemed they came up with action scenes for it and then threw some lines in..
The Plot line seemed like it could have been good, but they tried way to hard to have a bad guy.. only to be revealed later he really isn't the bad guy .. THIS GUY IS!!.. Only to reveal, wait just a second, he might not be as bad as you think.. Oops yes he is. Although he is bad for a reason.. complete
My order as it stands now.. 1...4..2..3................5
With all the comments above I may have to re-watch 3..
Something about it just didn't sit right to me the first time through and I've never returned to re-watch it to see if it was my mood at the time I saw it, or if I truly didn't care for it.
As most know I am a Action Film junky.. LOVED "Live free".. This one..

My don't people like DH2? Granted, nothing was ever going to live up to the first one, which is one of the greatest movies in the history of movies, but it was still good to me. The 3rd was definately better than 2, but I think that is because SLJ and the bad guy were so damn good. I rewatched the 4th on TV again this weekend. I enjoy that one a lot. I really don't go to the movies that much anymore so I probably won't see the 5th until it's on TV or DVD, but to me, it's John McLain. I'm good for about 2 hours just enjoying it.

Just got back from the theater.I liked Die Hard 1, 3, and 4.This new one is crap. There are three action scenes: 1) A vomit inducing, shaky-cam filmed car chase scene2) A helicopter shooting at a building3) A helicopter shooting at a buildingAdd to that that there is no humor whatsoever and it is a big middle finger to all fans of the series.But it's worth a rental - sometime after you've seen Eat, Pray, Love.Edit: Oh, and I don't know which is worse, Die Harder or Temple of Doom.

I like #2 enough.. Lot's of action and the story line is fun..I was really hoping #5 would build on #4.. Sure #4 had some 
moments, but the storyline was interesting to me.. The new one's story line is just a big old mess.. Seemed like they said.. "Hey we need this to happen.. but in order for that to happen we have to throw in this line".. The humor and "fun" was missing IMO.
Really feels that they will at least try to go with #6 based on the ending where Father, daughter and son are all together again.

Saw Amour on the weekend. I thought it was a definite step down from his last 2 original films, Cache and White Ribbon; Amour culminates with much less ambiguity than those films and I felt as if the ending was inevitable, which was not something I felt at all in Cache or White Ribbon. The acting, cinematography, and dialogue were all great like your standard Haneke film, but overall I just didn't find Amour to be all that interesting; was the first time Haneke's measured pace ever bothered me. Still really happy that Haneke was recognized by the Academy in multiple eminent categories though.

Total Recall: Action for the sake of action and none of it that good. The only thing that compares well to the original is the three boobed woman. Without Biel and Beckinsale it would have been terrible. 2/5
Battleship: A little better than what I expected though still pretty ridiculous. I'm no physics expert but I'm pretty their timeline, and entire premise, is outta wack. Their planet G is 22 light years away (according to wiki) so their super signal beaming satellite would have at best taken 22 years to get its message there. But asides from that... yeah, pretty ridiculous. A few good scenes wrapped around a lot of garbage. 2.5/5

I would take it a notch down and say it was 'good'. The good:1. It really is a good story. 2. Affleck does a great job with tense scenes, humorous scenes, and the ability to jump between them seamlessly. The Bad:1. Affleck's character (or was it just his acting). Completely flat and boring the whole movie. 2. The completely "Hollywood" last 20 minutes. It felt to me like the actual story didn't end exciting enough for them, so they went into standard action movie mode.
We have the typical action tropes in the last scene at the airport - van not starting, problem with the doors for the bad guys, cop cars chasing them down the tarmac, producers almost not getting to the phones, etc, etc. That combined with the over the top scenes of him coming home.

Oh yeah, it also seemed silly to have a montage of pics showing how close they were to the actors looking like the real people and how accurate some of the shots/scenes when the only glaring thing they didn't seem to care about was white break Ben Affleck playing a Latino man.
