It's true. The Professional is one of my all-time favorite movies, but his career has been disappointing.i had real hope for luc besson but he's one step away from making this.Lucy
Totally dumb. Totally bat-**** crazy.
I do give a movie an extra thumb up for believing in its own material. What can I say? The movie is silly, but it worked.
His career has been disappointing since The Fifth Element but Leon, The Fifth Element and La Femme Nikita alone are enough of a career for a director. After looking him up on IMDB I was surprised he wrote Taken, which is one of the few action movies I like. He also wrote a movie called District B13 (2004) that I'll check out. It's true. I was a big fan of the TV show and this had Denzel in it. How do you #### that up?You guys had high hopes for the The Equalizer?
TV ads make it look like a phoned-in, rehash deal by all involved. Seems like everyboyd has made Denzel and that character a completely wooden cliche.... at least that's what I get from the ads.
District B13 is decent. Taken 1 also had some decent things going for it. no, i think you're mostly right. I think it's a fun movie but you can't think too much about it. I'm in the minority, but even though I appreciated some things in The Professional- pacing, mostly- it bugged me... a distinctly Franco-Italian schmaltzy pairing of the vagabond dirty kid with rough and tumble adult with lots of obvious framing, action, writing, and music. can't explain why that all should be bother me, but it does.![]()

Horrid. Disjointed, poorly paced, confusing yet stupid. Really Denzel? You're better than this.

I loved it. A mature movie with an intelligent script. A lesser work would have likely settled with heavily focusing on having the secondary characters judging Joaquin Phoenix's digital girlfriend. But this society - our society - is already walking down the path of complete isolation and love of objects over human contact. Highly recommended.

Gary Oldman hamming it up as Stansfield is a delight.Leon: The Professional was absolutely terrible. No idea why it gets the love it gets. The next movie that Besson directs that isn't horrible will be his first.
Only good movie he's ever been apart of is Taken.

Listen, it's a slick film to look at but utterly ridiculous otherwise. It's fun to see Portman in her debut and recognize her potential instantly. Oldman is a blast. Besson knows how to stage a scene though and film it correctly. Otherwise, it's a pretty dumb movie. Everything he's done since has gotten progressively worse (mostly). He's the French equivalent to Robert Rodriguez.
ooooooh... see Exorchristmas... Exorscissors.... Exorcismus? the one I posted about upthread a week or so ago.It is that time of year to watch some horror movies. Any worth a crap that people can suggest in here that they have seen recently? Might start the annual post soon too.
Check out The Guest if its in your area.Texas Chainsaw:
Yeah, you read that correctly. I didn't hate the first remake, but that had a lot to do with R. Lee Ermey. This one was a festering turd of a movie.
That said, Alexandra Daddario is gorgeous enough to make it worth watching. So much better than watching Biel run around in the one from 10 years ago.
I assume you've seen it? Would love to hear what people thought about the movie. Her

except....
when that movie came out, I was in love LOVE in college with this girl who I thought looked like the love interest from the movie. She commented that she thought I looked the lead (as a teen). We had 3 incredible collegey weeks together before she graduated and I moved back to CA... we saw the the movie together before the end of it- and it will always remind me of extreme sense of aboslute emotional and intellectual affirmation I had with her- my whole soul resounded YES when I was around her. So... yeah- the movie hits all of my dislike/annoy buttons... but... dammit.

This is a fantastic movie. And it should have been a failure. But Stern and company put together a good script and assembled an excellent cast rather than just relying on Stern's star power.Yankee23Fan said:Private Parts..... still funny and I'm not even a Stern fan.
