Three Kings

Wasn't too bad. About three US soldiers after the gulf war who plot to steal Saddam's cache of stolen Kuwaiti gold. I think what made this movie unique was there were some strange mixes of emotions. It is billed as a dark comedy and that about sums it up. There are a few pretty intense and emotional scenes, and mixed in with them is some humor that you wouldn't expect considering what else is going on in the scene.

It did keep me interested though, and although I'm sure it is mostly fiction, still made me go "whoa" to some of the things they portrayed about life after the war in Iraq for the US army, the republican guard, and the iraqi civilians. Pretty good movie.
I love this movie.

I've never understood the Adaptation love. That movie sucked.
I liked the first 2/3. The last 1/3 got pretty lame.
It was completely lame but that was Kaufman's point.Crappy movie.
If you're in on the joke, the movie is brilliant. That said, it's a one line joke that plays out over two hours...so the re-watch potential is about 10%.

I was in on the joke, but I didn't think the joke was any good.

One interesting question about that movie - Remember when one of the soldiers was rescued and was given a gun to shoot the guy who was torturing him - and he did not shoot him. Would you have shot him?

probably. I don't think I'd like being tortured very much.

I would have probably hooked the juice up to him and given him some of the same treatment. No in reality I probably would have shot him. He showed himself to be a very bad dude, and one less of them would have been a good thing. The fact that he had no family anymore (although it was b/c of US bombs) would have probably made me even more inclined to do it.

But did you kind of sympathize with him some because of his family?I did but I still would have shot him.

Oh definately. The scene was the exact definition of the Helsinki Syndrome. Had he left it without the little oil tirade then your question would have been much tougher to answer, but just as I feel for the guy he shows his true colors again.

I saw two movies last weekend...

Wedding Crashers. Not bad, had its funny points. I wouldn't buy it, though.

The Exorcism Of Emily Rose. Meh. Not what I had hoped. Not terrible, but not terribly attention-grabbing either.

Match Point-Woody Allen Thriller.  Good flick.  Definitely worth a watch.
Thought Woody covered this ground better in "Crimes and Misdemeanors", but that one didn't have Scarlett J's moozambos.
Agree on all counts.

Match Point is a thriller?I thought it was just a chick flick/love story.
not really. it's about getting away with murder.

Going through LOST season 1. Excellent commentary - I like how they'll actually stop the action to show some behind the scenes stuff, and then continue it.
My wife and I got addicted to this as well. I got pretty annoyed when I went to buy season two and it's backordered until October ( ! ).
it isn't released until the first week of September. i can get plenty if you need one.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

I thought that Shane Black's return film was well done, fast flowing and full of great dialogue. Although I thought that Downey and Kilmer are excellent in the two leading roles I thought that the movies popularity suffered from having two perceived has beens in the leading roles. If this movie had one of the guys in it.... with the other role being played by a current bankable star I think it would have been alot bigger. I think it has great potential to be a cult or sleeper hit on DVD .......

Funny movie. I liked it a lot.

watched "Ong Bak" last night. Paper thin plot, even by martial art film standards, but the muay thai fighting and stunts were awfully cool.

16 Blocks-    I really had not heard much about this one, but it was pretty good. Mos Def was kind of hard to understand at times. For the record the gf said she liked it

Saw Chopper...... Meh...

I thought that this movie was overrated. It wasn't that gory and it wasn't that violent. Also, there was very little to no plot. I thought that it even fell flat as a character study of MArk "Chopper" Read. To me, the real interesting part of the DVD was the interviews the director and Eric Bana had with the real Mark Read. Eric Bana did a great job in this movie though....

I'm pretty sure it was mentioned before but Green Street Hooligans was a very good movie. I would definitely recommend it.

Just rewatched "SuperSize Me" Excellent Movie about the dangers of eating too much fast food

I think I will watch it once a week until I am down to my recommended weight

Finally rented "The Aristocrats"... amazing how much variety can come out of documentary about one joke.

Gotta say- I laughed my ### off- particularly at the guy with the bad ventriloquist's dummy.

Gilbert Gottfried was so disgusting but I couldn't help but laugh, Southpark and the Mime were good, but the rest was well, boring...It got old

saw "the house of flying daggers" and "bob le flambeur".

"daggers" was so-so. visually rich but pretty weak conceptually. i was disappointed than zhang zimou - he did "raise the red lantern" after all - couldn't make a more engaging narrative. i also wonder what has happened to gong li? she used to be his muse but she seems to have been replaced by the asian "it" girl, zhang ziyi.

"bob" was a classic french caper flick by melville. kinda cool work from melville.

Is there a "theater" version of this thread? Oh, well.

A Prairie Home Companion: Not bad. Very, very Altmany with an odd touch of the supernatural. Acting is as good as the cast (Streep, Kline, Tomlin, Harrelson, Reilly, Madsen, Tommy Lee Jones, etc.) with a suprisingly charismatic performance from script-writer Garrison Keillor; I couldn't take my eyes off him for some reason. The singing got old, I thought. Probably wouldn't opt to see it again, but I wouldn't not recommend it, either.

sarah silverman was funny/creepy too, but other than that this movie had nothing.

i loved the interview with the guy too. i liked the movie but felt like i was missing out on something. it may have more meaning/relevance to aussies than americans.

I agree. I was very dissapointed. I think that given this good group of comics, a funny film could have been made. But 90 minutes of diarrhea jokes got old.

Finally saw Finding Neverland. It was surprisingly good. Johnny Depp is definitely one of the best actors out there today.

Thanks - I have a meeting in two minutes and now I have a humungous throbbing boner.
:lmao: (especially at "throbbing")

Actually turned Jesus is Magic off after about 30 minutes. And I usually like Sarah Silverman. The standup routines (at least at the start) were marginal at best. But the interludes (singing? :X ) - at least the few I made it through - were truly horrendous.
