I saw "An Inconvenient Truth" last night at the theater. Guess people have attacked some of Gore's methods, but the overall message is pretty compelling and this is a movie that everybody should check out.

Actually turned Jesus is Magic off after about 30 minutes. And I usually like Sarah Silverman. The standup routines (at least at the start) were marginal at best. But the interludes (singing? :X ) - at least the few I made it through - were truly horrendous.
I love her standup and I want to marry her. But those songs reeked. I think it's nearly impossible to be funny in the context of a song.

Syriana-         Interesting, but kind of hard to follow. :loco:

gf review- :whoosh:
I'm having a hard time understanding your reviews. What does     mean exactly?
50/50, just ok. I started with only 3 smileys, but came to a dilema on movies that were about a 5, or just average. If you have any other sugestions I am open to change, and wouldn't mind seeing a uniform rating system. I was thinking about using

dont know if its been mentioned, dont care. inside man. what a stellar movie. denzel washington is saint joseph incarnate. 2 thumbs up. grab this sucker now.
Is this on video already??

I am sure that The Matador has been mentioned in this thread, but I just got the DVD yesterday and it is even better the second time around.

Pierce Bronson is classic

If these two movies are Hondas, I apologize.

Last night, I watched most of Swimming Pool. The teenage girl is pretty hot and the movie was pretty suspenseful. If you have a few hours free and are looking for a movie, this is worth watching.

A few years ago, a movie came out that I wanted to see. I never did. My son got in on DVD, but I never managed to see it. Well, I finally caught NATIONAL TREASURE today and I thought it was outstanding.

For some reason when I searched for this movie yesterday on Blockbuster Online it did not come up

Underworld Revolution-    I didn't really like it. But, I guess some people may be more into the vampire/ werewolf thing than I am.
Finally got around to catching this the other night. Big  Reminded me a lot of the Matrix sequels. The original has a cool concept, good story, sweet action and awesum atmosphere and cinematography. The sequel takes all of those things and notches them up a degree except for one key element: the story just plain blows (not too mention that in this case it completely contradicts a lot of the plot points from the original film!)

On the good side, for Kate Beckingsale fan's (like myself) there is a very artfully done sex scene early in where she is teasingly nude (you don't actually see any naughty bits.)

Sounds like I need ot rent this one.

I'm a big fan of the first one, but I just couldn't get into the 2nd one for some reason. I think it's because the story is only superficially related to the plot and events that occur in the first movie I guess. Another thing I didn't like is they completely give away to anyone paying attention how the final fight scene and the main bad guy will be killed. It's a cool scene that is rendered kind of pointless because you can see it coming from a mile away.

Still, it's a very stylish movie with good effects, atmosphere and fight scenes. Kate Beckingsale in skin tight leather is always good too.

just watched Cache

French made movie billed as a Hitchcock-esque thriller.

this #### was awful. slow, plodding, boring.. no thrills.. no conclusion.. no nothing. avoid at all costs.

I liked that she showed her knockers several times, but the film didn't finish well, in my opinion. The first 2/3 was decent, even though it was slow. But the end was pretty weak.

Really? Damn. I thought that was going to be good. Guess I'll yank it from my Netflix queue.

really. it was nothing special.. won lots of awards and all but.. it was just not interesting in the least. it's billed as a "thriller" but there was just nothing thrilling about it at all.. nor suspenseful. check it out and let me know what you think.

by comparison i just watched 'Green Street Hooligans' on FBGs recommendation... same length movie... Cache seemed about 3 times as long. GSH flew by and was over before i knew it. HIGHLY recommended movie.. the Pete character was excellent.. even Elijah Wood was decent. my gf sniffed at the prospect of watching it but she was in tears by the conclusion. very good movie.

Saw Kiss Kiss Bang Bang based on some fbg recos here. Probably the funniest start to finish movie I've seen this year. Some great one liners, some great subtle "just figured we throw this in here" humor, some great scenes that I think I laughed more at the shock value than anything else. And on top of all the comedy, there was a really twisty whodunnit story line to boot. One of the very few movies that both me and the wife really liked (and that is saying a lot).

Major  on this one.

Night Watch...

Russian "Underworld" type movie about good and bad forces (vampires vs whatever)... decent visuals- I guess it's part of a trilogy? Seemed a bit self-serving with the visuals (didn't help the plot any with them) and pretty choppy, plot-wise. We had it set dubbed to english- which was funny because the dub was with Russian english accents... kinda worked.

Anybody else see this?

My roommate has it queued up so I'll probably see it soon.

 Totally agree. A real gem that may end up being a cult classic.

I will see Cache some day just to have an informed opinion on the film. Thanks for the Green Street Hooligans recommendation.

   I am a fan of this film. It's funny, because I saw a minute out of context on Ebert & Roeper, and it looked terrible to me. It's one of those silly movies where the clever dialogue just adds on more and more humor with each minute.

I don't even remember hearing about this movie until I saw it mentioned on here. I watched the trailer for it after the movie, and even though the trailer made it apparent that it was a comedy, I didn't think it did the movie any justice at all. The laughs just kept coming, and even the jokes from out of nowhere didn't seem forced. The native american Joe Pesci had me :lmao:

Plus, Kilmer and Downey had good chemistry. Very funny actors in this one.

Hoodwinked

A couple of those scenes made me laugh harder than I've laughed in a long time. I especially enjoyed Wolf and Twitchy. :lmao:

Cheaper by the Dozen 2: Mildly enjoyable family flick. Kids like it. Jamie King in a skintight one piece =

What a Girl Wants: 5 out of 10. Not terrible but not that good either. I don't know why I end up watching all these tween flicks.

Marilyn Hotchkiss' Ballroom Dancing & Charm School: Interesting cast in an odd little movie. Marisa Tomei, John Goodman, Mary Steenburgen, Sean Astin, Danny DeVito, Donnie Wahlberg, Adam Arkin, Sonia Braga and Ernie Hudson. Interesting little story about moving on with your life instead holding on to your baggage. 6.5 out of 10.

Just watched Night Watch.

Very good special effects but the storyline is bad and I think the translation into English subtitles is missing something. It is similar to Blade but not as good.

Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room.

Compelling. It's hard to describe how you feel after watching it. I liked it nonetheless. I really don't know what else to say about it right now. It's just sort of numbing.

Great. Now I HAVE to rent this.

"Thief"

An old Michael Mann film from the early 1980's. It very similar to another Mann film "Heat." The characters talk the same way in both films.

"Taking down big scores."

"You're on."

James Caan is the star and he gives a real nuanced performance. Like Heat, there is a great diner scene.

I'm surprised I hadn't heard of this film until recently. It's a classic IMO.

Just watched The United States of Leland last night. Pretty good movie. An interesting drama with several subplots.

Ultra-Violet-  just OK. A little too :nerd: sci-fi for me, but there were a bunch of cool special effects/ CGI. This would be a great movie to check out if you have a nice set-up, especially blue-ray, as it is one of the first blue-ray titles.

Just saw Munich on Friday night.

I enjoyed this movie.

Flashback / dream scenes of the hostage taking and aftermath were very well done.

Watched "White Men Can't Jump" recently.

You said we was going to Sizzler

Shut your anorexic tapeworm having overdosed #### Gregory

Bahamian-diet-drinking ### up. Leave me alone.

If you miss this, you have lost not once but twice to a slow geeky white chump.

Don't worry Sidney. I have hustled much better players than you. Put it up, no brick.

That film pointed out something very disturbing: we all know that Enron was a corrupt company. What was much less publicized is that all these major financial institutions rolled over for Enron and let this company get away with a lot of bad business.

Saw Mr. & Mrs. Smith on the weekend. I expected some cheeseball mediocre action movie. However, I was pleasantly surprised. It was funny and extremely entertaining. Like War Of The Roses except with guns and hot people. I'd recommend it.

started to watch "born into brothels" last night. it won the "best documentary" award at last year's oscar ceremony. i got about 30 mins into it before i had to pick up my wife at the theatre. very interesting doc...

It was pretty good. My wife actually liked it a lot so it might make a decent date night movie if you can swing it

Just saw a very sweet documentary called "The Story of The Weeping Camel." Good film. Quite slow and deliberate. Not for everyone, but if you like National Geographic films, this is a good one.
