I am sure that The Matador has been mentioned in this thread, but I just got the DVD yesterday and it is even better the second time around.

Pierce Bronson is classic
:goodposting: I enjoyed the dark humor in this movie. There are some great one-liners.

"I'm as serious as an erection problem."

I saw this over the weekend. Awesome flick. I also saw "Date Movie"

and "Salem's Lot" (again) It was alot scarier watching it as a yoot.

Did you just say "yoot"?

I watched "Green Street Hooligans" last night and that was a very good movie. I would never have heard of it w/o this thread. Thanks

Storytelling -- Todd Solondz certainly makes interesting movies. I haven't quite figured out if I liked this or not. I think I did. It's pretty humorous and a pretty good commentary on -- well, lots of things.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang -- I agree with everyone else on here. It's good.

Saving Grace -- Pretty ok movie about a woman in rural England who is widowed and to raise money she starts growing pot. Kind of a cross of Waking Ned Devine and Weeds.

Actually turned Jesus is Magic off after about 30 minutes.  And I usually like Sarah Silverman.  The standup routines (at least at the start) were marginal at best.  But the interludes (singing?  :X ) - at least the few I made it through - were truly horrendous.
I love her standup and I want to marry her. But those songs reeked. I think it's nearly impossible to be funny in the context of a song.
Adam Sandler down?

Three Kings

Wasn't too bad.  About three US soldiers after the gulf war who plot to steal Saddam's cache of stolen Kuwaiti gold.  I think what made this movie unique was there were some strange mixes of emotions.  It is billed as a dark comedy and that about sums it up.  There are a few pretty intense and emotional scenes, and mixed in with them is some humor that you wouldn't expect considering what else is going on in the scene.

It did keep me interested though, and although I'm sure it is mostly fiction, still made me go "whoa" to some of the things they portrayed about life after the war in Iraq for the US army, the republican guard, and the iraqi civilians.  Pretty good movie.
I love this movie.
Great flick. An antiwar movie that doesn't hit you over the head to make its point.

No, he just sucks too.

I recommend Finding Neverland. I saw it for the first time last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. One of the few movies that my wife and I both enjoyed.

Saw Mr. & Mrs. Smith on the weekend.  I expected some cheeseball mediocre action movie.  However, I was pleasantly surprised.  It was funny and extremely entertaining.  Like War Of The Roses except with guns and hot people.  I'd recommend it.
It was pretty good. My wife actually liked it a lot so it might make a decent date night movie if you can swing it
Finally watched this on Cinemax on demand.  OK, I could see how it would be a good movie to watch with a date. I have yet to meet a chick that doesn't love Brad Pitt.

:goodposting: I expected nothing from this movie and thought it was terrific.

Very sweet movie. I think people with kids will especially like it.

The Pink Panther (the new one with Steve Martin)

Meh. The reviews weren't kidding when they said this movie lacked heart. There was some attempt at humor probably at least once every 10 seconds, but most of it just made me smile, rarely any good laughs though. Was not one of my favorites.

This is one film that should have never been made. I like Martin a lot, but it's hard to imagine anyone in the world being as funny as Sellers was in those films.

Didn't see it, but I found it so odd that they cast an even better option as Clouseau in a different role: Kevin Kline.

Sure. Still, why bother? For example, I think Planes, Trains, and Automobiles is the perfect comedy. So why try to remake it beyond the fact that it will make money? Leave perfection alone.

I agree with that.

Jessica Biel is hot but that's about it. The plot was laughable and some of the action was laughable.

Have there been any quality action movies lately or have I seen too many to enjoy them anymore? Would I enjoy Lethal Weapon, Robocop or Die Hard if they came out today?

Finally gave in and watched The Butterfly Effect. It rocked. I'm surprised it wasn't a bigger hit. I normally hate Kutcher but he was good in this.

If you see A Prarie Home Companion, it will be even stranger. Kline's practically playing an American Closeau.

Is there a "theater" version of this thread? Oh, well.

A Prairie Home Companion: Not bad. Very, very Altmany with an odd touch of the supernatural. Acting is as good as the cast (Streep, Kline, Tomlin, Harrelson, Reilly, Madsen, Tommy Lee Jones, etc.) with a suprisingly charismatic performance from script-writer Garrison Keillor; I couldn't take my eyes off him for some reason. The singing got old, I thought. Probably wouldn't opt to see it again, but I wouldn't not recommend it, either.

Was scrolling through the pay per view movies and went with "Green Street Hooligans" after seeing it mentioned in this thread. Great flick imo

Not a fan of Elijah Wood in his role but it wasn't enough to spoil the movie for me, Pete was great

Damn. You are braver than I. That looks like a dog.

Mission Impossible III was pretty good.

Saw The Matador. I thought it would be funnier but I liked it. Pierce Brosnan played the character well and Greg Kinnear (who I'm usually not a fan of) was good.

Also saw Mr. and Mrs. Smith and didn't care for it.

I really liked this one too. I wonder how many people put off, or never watched it because Kutcher was in it.

Very under-rated.

King Kong

This is one long ### movie. The 1st half should have been cut to 30 minutes and the 2nd half left alone except for the ice scene, I thought it was unnecessary.

The wife is away on vacation and left me with no car so I've had a chance to catch up on some video rentals. Well let me say that I'm glad I didn't subject her to the filth that I've had the misfortune of renting.

Stealth - best of the bunch but still

Ultra-violet

Aeon-Flux

Doom

Just Friends (after failing with four straight action flicks I figure I'd give comedy a try.... )

saw Pirates of the Caribbean II today at the theater

not going to ruin it with spoilers. all i'll say is it was OK. not as good as the first one. not bad but i'd wait for the DVD.

it's a bit longish at just over 2 1/2 hours too.

Furley,

I just returned from a 9:00 showing of this movie. I agree that it was long with many twists and turns. Was that you behind me munching on popcorn with a open mouth?

I saw it tonite as well and agree. Good movie, especially if you liked the first one. Was kinda cool to see and hear some of it on the big screen I thought.

Just saw a very good foreign film called "The Barbarian Invasions." It's about a witty French Canadian intellectual who is dying of cancer. Beautiful film. Not perfect. But some funny moments, some very emotional parts, and a damn fine finish.

I just finished the video game Doom III and thought it was very well done. Was thre any redemming qualities to the movie?

I never played the video game so I can't compare it on that level. The movie felt like an accurate representation of a first person shooter. I guess I would have to say that it really was as good as it could be. It never stood a chance of being an alltime great. But if you are a fan of the game then the movie might be fun to watch.

Doom... bleh... one of the only movies I actually stopped watching on an airplane. And I will watch damn near anything on an airplane.

We just netflicked Syriana. Interesting, but a mess. One of those movies that tracks several different story lines, just not successfully, IMO. Although it did a succesful job of doing it, I guess I just don't need a movie to tell me that corporations rule the world. Would've loved to have seen more Jeffrey Wright and less Matt Damon.

Thought it was very good also. Recently saw History of Violence, give it 3 out of 4 stars.

We just got back from it... really disappointing. I liked the writing and characters in the first one. This one was just people moving from action to action... terrible writing and the characters this time were completely interchangable- only there to further the action. Really wished I had waited to see this on DVD.

I watched Syriana and thought it was very good, but had a few questions about the ending. I am going to watch it again tonight. I thought Clooney did a good job and felt the movie could have been longer and explored some of the other story lines.
