Bringing out the Dead- It was an ok film, good enough to rent

Training Day-Still love Denzel's performance

Cars-still dont get what the hype was all about??? Mater and the Ghost Light was funnier

The Break Up-Not bad could of been better, like the ending

When a Man Loves a Woman-Very good film, very entertaining.
 I thought WAMLAW was one of the least entertaining, most depressing movies I've ever seen.

I read the book and loved it.

I rented The DaVinci Code and really liked it.

I was surprised how deep they got with the storyline. I usually hate the movie after reading the book, but this was an exception. My wife, who didn't read the book, got bored about a third of the way through and went to bed.

edit: Before the movie there was an announcement of...In Production...Angels and Demons!

I like that book a lot more. Can't wait for that one.

Just saw a few:

Monster House: It was an alright movie but I don't think it was as good as the hype. It wasn't even close to any of the Pixar films in terms of animation or story.

Nacho Libre: I thought it was good but I'm a Jack Black fan and this movie was nothing more than a film for Jack Black to be Jack Black but with a Mexican accent.

Starsky and Hutch: I never watched the tv show so I don't have a frame of reference. It seems that Wilson and Stiller were trying to be a little more serious than they usually are...... it was a'ight.

Alexander: I really thought that this was a very good movie and I cannot understand why it was panned so much. Big deal....Alexander is in love with one of his military officers. The film looked great, the action was awesome and the acting was alright. If people don't want to watch this because Colin Farrell was wearing a little blonde wig and was homosexual then its their loss.

Watched In The Valley a couple of days ago. Not great, but interesting enough for a video rental. It rips off more than a little from Taxi Driver and Cape Fear, but Ed Norton makes it worth a look.

Can't remember if I mentioned this one:

Black Books

- It's a hilarious short-lived British comedy series. I think there's only one season, but fans of British comedies must check this out. It centers around an alcoholic bookstore owner who so loathes his customers, he snips the phone cord when it rings and yells "What do you want?!" when customers come in his store.

I watched Brazil and I know I'm gonna take a lot of heat for this, but....

That movie was so freaking long and boring. There were 5 parts were I laughed. I literally counted them. And there may have been 5 other parts where I went, "That's kind of ironic" or something along those lines.

I'm a fan of most of Gilliam's work, but this one just didn't really interest me. Then I found out that Time Magazine named it one of the Ten Best Films of All Time?!?!

I didn't think it was bad, but if it would have been an hour shorter, I may have come away thinking it was a pretty good movie. Even with ADHD medicine, 2 hours and 30 minutes is a long time for a movie.

Match Point

I really enjoyed this film. Very slow paced, so if you don't like that sort of thing stay away. Scarlett Johannson was very good in a Fatal Attraction type role.

Hey Nigel - did you see For Your Consideration yet?

I was very disappointed with it. Not even in the same league as Best in Show or Guffman.

:( Really? That sucks to hear. No, I haven't seen it, but I plan on it as soon as I can get a sec. It's getting decent reviews, I think.

Thank You for Smoking: Pretty good film. Aaron Eckhart is very good and very charismatic as a tobacco industry lobbyist.
Good movie. And I love how the protagonist didn't change his ways and become "good" at the end. Too many films tag on a BS ending where the person rethinks everything and suddenly is good and moral.

Yep. Rob Lowe was hilarious in it, too.
Certainly. I did think the reporter was a bit miscast though. Nice to look at, but a bit young-looking to be believable.

Just tried to watch the "Stangers With Candy" film. Couldn't finish it. I am a huge fan of the series, but this film rehashed a lot of the jokes from the series. Very dissapointing.

Also tried to watch "North Country." Hoary, ham-fisted melodrama about a woman (Charlize Theron) and how mean men are to her. Bad, bad film. Mrs. Dogg will attempt to watch the rest on her own.

Watched one good one and one terrific one this week.

Annapolis- I thought this was going to be horrible but it actually was pretty enjoyable. It basically does what it sets out to do. A little sense of Annapolis and some fistacuffs. I give the director some credit for not getting too sappy when dealing with some of the scenes in the movie. Franco was pretty good in it. He's the right role away from being a huge star. Entertaining movie that I give props to for not getting all melodramatic. The chick in this movie is super hot especially in the military outfits.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang- Haven't gone through this thread in a while but I remember seeing this movie in here. This was one of the better movies I've seen in while. Some top-notch sarcasm. "Oh you're Gay Perry. So you're gay?" "No I'm knee-deep in ##### I just like the nickname." Downey and Kilmer were great together. The narration by Downey was good. First role in a while that he looked normal in. Good to see him back in form. One strange thing about the movie was seeing Shannyn Sossamon in such a meager role. I know she's not a household name but she's starred in some big movies. I think she had 30 seconds of screen time and said maybe two words in this. Wonder who her agent is. I can see how some wouldn't really care for this movie but if you're really into movies you'll dig this.

festival express...

cool music documentary about an ill-starred idea to take a bunch of early 70s stars to canada... they ran into alot of protestors that wanted concert to be free & lost a bundle (one reason it took this a long time to see the light of day)... they used a train, & after the concerts (something like 4-5 city stretch), some of the best partying and jamming was documented ON the train and in between concerts...

some great work by blues legend buddy guy, grateful dead & janis joplin...

i only rented disc one from netflix as disc two is supposedly only about 50 minutes...

deathrace 2000 - hilarious parody & satire in vein of running man... david carradine plays the mangled & mutilated anti-hero, and also features a pre-rocky sly stallone (i think... about the pre-rocky part... its definitely stallone :) )... far from a great movie, but good for a laugh...

part action, sci-fi type dystopian future, horror & black comedy...

Just watched Clerks 2.  Couple pretty funny parts, but for the most part it was a bore. Got way too sappy and slow.
I disagree. Not quite the movie the first one was, but it was good. Although, I never get tired of looking at Rosario Dawson. At least it was better than You, Me, and Dupree!!! And I love Owen Wilson.

Superman Returns - Not being a person who was ever into comic books, I think I enjoy these movies more than others. I really liked this flick. The guy who played Superman did a really good job. Reminded me a lot of Christopher Reeve. And the guy that played Jimmy Olson was hysterical. I'd reccommend this for anyone wanting a fun movie

Cry Wolf - Went in thinking it was just going to be another teen horror flick. Very low expectations. Except for way too many attempts at misdirection, the plot was actually pretty good. Far fetched and unrealistic, but pretty good. It reminded me of another movie that I enjoyed but was very unrealistic:

I remember seeing a few scenes for this film out of context on Ebert & Roeper, and I thought it looked bad. But the film has a clever, silly momentum that builds and I like it a lot.

The Matador - Horrible movie. Hated it. I found it super slow and didn't enjoy it one bit.

Lucky Number Sleven - Excellent. Entertaining story. I will watch this one again.

I watched Calvaire last night it is a Belgium horror movie and thought it was OK but the plot line is disturbing. The atmosphere is good but the script seems weak, the acting is OK but I find that with most foreign horror films the subtitles distract at times and can the mood.

Overall a C.

Not a great movie, but the best trailer tag line ever:

Lost in the woods

near a quiet country village.

What's the worst that could happen?

Ask the pig.

Bottle Rocket - I didn't like Rushmore or Royal Tenenbaums, but I really like Life Aquatic. I figured I'd check out Bottle Rocket. Just couldn't get into it. Way too slow paced. I like both of the Wilson brothers, somewhat. Either Wes Anderson has gotten better with Life Aquatic or I just really like Bill Murray. I guess I'll see with his next film.

Omen 666 - Clearly not a movie that needed to be remade. This version sticks almost exactly to the original with one MAJOR problem. The kid isn't scary! They could have found a creepy kid for the role of Damien. Oh and the music isn't nearly as good. That said it was enjoyable, not great. Worth HBO.

"Bottle Rocket", for me, feels like a first film. It's just rough around the edges from both a writer and director's standpoint. I liked it well enough on those terms. It's not my favorite of Anderson's work.

The Proposition. I heard some good hype about this one and it lived up to it. I guess I would call it an Aussie-Western. Nick Cave actually wrote it. Guy Pearce and Emily Watson are in it. Beautiful landscape shots throughout. There are some very violent scenes but in most cases it was called for. All aspects of this film were well done. It wasn't quite and "A" movie because it was slow in parts but it's a solid B+. Definetly worth checking out.

Serenity: One of the great tragedies of the entertainment world was how Fox handled and screwed over Joss Whedon and his sci-fi Western show Firefly. While the initial ratings numbers weren't great, Fox did not give it time to grow and gain an audience.( X-Files was pretty low rated for its first couple of years) that was a big mistake. Firefly ( and the 16 or so episodes that came out) came across as a really fresh television show that a fan of either sci-fi or westerns could enjoy. Set in a another universe settled by humans, Firefly deals with the crew of the Serenity and the adventures they incur. The characterization was great, the action good and the dialogue top notch. Joss Whedon did a great job of creating a real universe with nice characterization. Fortunately for fans of the show... Whedon was able to tie up any loose ends with the movie Serenity. For fans of the show and sci-fi fans in general...this movie does not disappoint. For a movie about a television show that lasted 16 episodes; it was really well done.

music DVD

traffic - last traffic jam

if you like/d the band, a must

stevie winwood equally adept on electric guitar or keyboards

Documentary--Wordplay.

Inside the exciting world of crossword puzzles. :nerd:

Actually, was quite good, and kept me entertained through the entire thing. Some interesting stuff in there.

In the Bedroom

Yeah I know it's been out forever but it was excellent none the less. Very dramatic but not kill yourself sad like say The House of Sand and Fog. Sissy Spacek is a very good actress.

Jarhead -- I'm sure most of y'all have seen it. I thought it was ok. It was relatively interesting seeing the mindset of a marine. It dragged on, though.

Land of the Blind - Silly. It tried to be an interesting political satire, but it was just silly and formulaic.

The King -- Pretty interesting story about a guy who gets out of the military and goes to Texas to find his preacher-father. It wasn't great, but it was worth seeing.

Kubrick's "The Killing". Whoa. Clearly not his best work. Interesting to compare this very dated, very creaky caper film with his later work. It looks like Stanley made a few very landmark films like "2001", "Dr Strangelove", "Barry Lyndon" and "A Clockwork Orange" as well as some really pedestrian work. This is some really bad noir.

Yeah, good show... and good movie. I caught several of the TV shows when they were on air... and was a bit surprised it got cancelled.

I like Bottle Rocket a lot and I own the DVD. But I do agree that it's imperfect and clearly the work of a new director.

Finally watching Arrested Development on DVD. I had never seen the show before, but felt compelled to rent it based on reviews in this forum. Very funny. Glad I took the chance.

Samurai Fiction: a comedy with samurais, it took me a while to get accustomed to this kind of samurai story, in the end I enjoyed it.

China Town: Very nicely shot detective story. Liked it a lot, great cast with Jack Nicholson, Dunaway, John Huston and Burt Young in a short apperance

Amadeus: In general I hate movies about music, but I realy like Amadeus. Watched the last half hour where Salieri sits at Mozarts bed and writes down the notes and they are played in the backround. Great scene. Abraham plays a great bitter old Salieri. While the story isn´t exactly historicaly true it is still a great perspective for a movie.

Also watched "The Mysterious Geographic Explorations Of Jasper Morello" a Animated short film. Great story, great naration, quiet, I enjoed it very much.

Watched a lot of movies this week.....I work graveyard shift and we have been slow.....

Superman returns- Didnt really live up to the hype but it was pretty good nonetheless. The movie was really long and never seemed to end though.

Clerks II- Not nearly as good as I thought it would be. I own every Kevin Smith movie and I really had high hopes for the movie. The one liners seemed so planned and unoriginal. Definately the worst of the bunch in my opinion.

You, Me and Dupree- exactly what I expected. Owen Wilson was funny as hell as always. Micheal Douglas was really funny too. Ending was really cheesy but still a good movie.

Tangled- little known movie. If you have 2 hours to kill, brush your dogs teeth, shave your cat, maybe kill yourself......anything besides watching this movie. One of the worst I have ever seen.

Netflix users:

From now through December 21, Netflix customers can get free movie rentals at Blockbuster stores in exchange for the Netflix mailing labels they normally would throw away (one DVD rental per label). The promotion highlights the advantage that Blockbuster has over its Web-only competitor: physical stores for video renters' immediate gratification.

You just need a BB membership in the same name as the Netflix label.
