Watched three movies this weekend:

Nacho Libre - Mucho suckod

Clerks 2 -

This one was o.k. There were a few moments that had me chuckling, but overall didn't think it was that strong. The witty banter between Dante and Randall seemed force and non-original Randall did have a couple lines that had me laughing, but he seemed like he was trying to force the lines/jokes down my throat...I don't know, maybe it's because these guys aren't really actors. The first movie had a rawish feel and was new and refreshing. Trying to get that feel again wasn't a great plan. But again, some funny parts...so if you have 2 hours to kill, definitely nice to check out Rosario Dawson

The last movie, was a Christmas gift....and one I never asked for, never referenced, and really have no idea why my wife got it for me.

Ong Bak: The Thai Warrior-

I was very pleasantly surprised watching this one. The action scenes are really good, and it's all real (no CGI or wires- although I'm not sure I believe no wires), some of the stuff is It's kind of like watching a Jackie Chan movie, but when he was younger and did some sick stunts. If you like fighting/action movies, I think this one is worth a rental.

Tristan + Isolde = decent, but not worth a second viewing

Tenacious D: Pick of Destiny = a must-see for D fans. Like most comedies, it's better then second time.

I apoligize if anyone's annoyed by these reviews, maybe I should have started a Kurosawa thread.

Anyway, I held off my desire to watch Yojimbo to continue in chronological order with The Bad Sleep Well. Once again I was not dissapointed. A film noir crime drama about corporate corruption, revenge, and loyalty. While the first hour is a slow paced drama, the story really picks up as you find out details of what has happened. Once locked in the pace picks up in both intrigue and tension. Mifune turns in a great role as a somewhat Clark Kent type. Button down straight-laced to everyone, with a darker side yet to be revealed. A great role for him to show his range away from Samurai action flicks. The ending is a shock which left me a little empty and probably wouldn't go over well in movies today. It is a bold move though.

This movie would translate so well to a modern take. I may actually play around with it as a screenplay just for fun. If you plan on renting it make sure you look for the one from the Criterion Collection. Apparently a previous transfer was horrible in both picture quality and translation. Yojimbo is on the way!

Tough to rank again, but as good as it is, it only surpasses Hidden Fortress IMO.

Finally saw The Da Vinci Code.

A thrilling book, great director, great cast, and the result is this piece of crap?

Tom Hanks, who I thought was good in everything, was lousy (and it was more than the bad hairdo).

It was way too long, too many dull attempts to explain stuff, even the soundtrack was weak. Hank's character was as exctiting as eating poi.

Now I know why the box office for it dropped dramatically after the first week.

Watched "Scoop" the other night. Pretty decent movie, and worth it just to gaze upon Scarlett for an hour and a half. I've never been a fan of Woody Allen's shtick as an actor, so I found that a bit annoying, but it was a fun story, and pretty entertaining overall.

And did I mention a soaking wet Scarlett? :boner:

Kate Beckinsdale is uber-hot, but it still didn't make it worth renting. It's just a bad rip-off of Family Man which was a bad rip-off of It's a Wonderful Life.

The Filth and the Fury - Wow that was great. If you ever wanted to know anything about The Sex Pistols just watch this. I was very young at the time but I do remember all the hype when they came to the U.S. A great two year run for a formative group. A major influence on so much music, not in playing ability, but attitude.

Just watched Kiss Kiss Bang Bang based on multiple recommendations in this thread. It was decent, solid dialog, witty, some nice chest shots. I'd give it a 6.5-7 on a 1-10.

I was very young at the time but I do remember all the hype when they came to the U.S. A great two year run for a formative group. A major influence on so much music, not in playing ability, but attitude.

Another great movie. The Sex Pistols are the definition of Punk. Most modern Punk bands have no idea what Punk rock is at all.

It wasn't until early Suicidal and Slayer that I moved from the dinosaur bands. Punk never did it for me. But there is no denying what punk did for all heavy music.

I agree to a point. I don't know how much humor there really was in punk though. It always seemed like a statement was being made behind the humor so it really wasn't Benny Hill. AC/DC had a great sense of humor.

But yeah, metal was/is mostly serious. Check out the band Tankard for some old school metal hijinks.

I loved Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and this was about as good.

I laughed out loud several times. Ritchie can really make an entertaining film.

I can hardly wait until Revolver is out.

Check out Layer Cake, not as good as Snatch or LSTSB but in the same mold.

Jackass Number Two Hilarious. After seeing countless videos online of people snapping leg bones like pretzel sticks while skateboarding, etc, I have no clue how none of the Jackass guys have had a serious injury or death. Im sure theyve had broken wrists or ankles, etc here and there, but how one of them isnt permanently in a wheelchair or worse is beyond me.

Fearless Dug it. Recommend if youre a Jet Li fan. Its his final martial arts movie.

An Inconveinient Truth Awesome, interesting, and scary.

I laughed out loud several times. Ritchie can really make an entertaining film.

I can hardly wait until Revolver is out.

I think Snatch is the better movie. Ritchie's best by far, IMO. Lock Stock is great too, but Snatch is just awesome.

Circle Jerks definately qualify as a Hi-larious band.

Watched Brazil today. I thought I had seen it before but never did.

What a bizarre flick, but the strangest thing was that with all the crazyness it still had a basic easy to follow "boy meets girl" storyline. I've never seen a movie that could combine the two so well.

Great camerawork, amazing sets, great acting, hilarious insanity. Highly recommended if you're into weird films.

Just watched Scoop based on someone's mention of it in the thread. It was cute. Woody Allen is a master. Scarlett is hot as usual. Good timekiller movie. Nothing amazing, but kept my interest.

I watched a couple flicks this weekend.

Last night I watched The Illusionist. Solid acting, as you would expect, from Paul Giamatti and Edward Norton. Jessica Biel did a nice job too. Her face didn't look that great in this movie, but her body was slamming. I was really enjoying the story until about the last half hour when I figured out the "Suprise Ending." Once it was time to reveal the surprise, it was all summed up much too quickly and conveniently. Still, the first hour and fifteen minutes was worth it.

A couple of night ago I saw The Last Kiss. This movie was not at all the rom-com that it was advertised to be. It was probably even more depressing than Zach Braff's previous effort in "Garden State." This movie was all about relationship's -- F-ed up relationships. Too many guys making "guy" decisions (wife's a b####, I'm gonna leave her; I like my gf, but I still want to play the field; I never want to grow up) and an older woman (Blythe Danner) making a chick decision (my husband doesn't pay enough attention to me, I'm gonna leave him). It was very well done though and put me to mind of other well-done relationship downers like "Spanglish" and "In the Bedroom."
