I guess because it's depressing and about relationships. That's not what most people consider entertainment. Why do so many people hate Last Kiss?

Great turn for Jack Black. Checked out Silent Hill this weekend. It takes a lot to creep me out, but there were a couple of really creepy scenes (the nurses!). It started out good got got a little weak when the story started to develop.
All in all though it was ok, with some great effects and decent chills.
Worth the rental.
Just signed up for Netflix. I love the selection, especially the B-Movie horrors. I already have over 20 movies in the queue.
Silent Hill was surprisingly good - very atmospheric and well shot. The storyline was kinda weak but overall a decent flick.May have mentioned it before, but if you like intense all out action, check out District B-13. It was much better than I anticipated, with some trulyCrank -- It won't test the limits of your intellect, but for am intense, non-stop 90 minute action adrenaline rush, it was pretty fun.Statham was made for this kind of movie.
moments.Where was it billed as hilarious? I liked the movie b/c it had the balls to be a little depressing- I thought that it made it a little more realistic than most movies like that. I just watched 2 today:and the fact that it was billed as "hilarious"..I guess because it's depressing and about relationships. great classic movie(and book)I need to see this again.taking of pelham 1-2-3... about subway hi-jack... you can see the influence on tarantino's reservoir dogs... walter matthau was great in it...

Also just watched this movie. Some great, cheesy acting, but Leito had some pretty amazing moves in his fight/flee scenes. Pretty good movie.Expected it to suck, and came away very impressed. ETA....may have misposted...I was talking about District B13, not Crank.I found this on the imdb.com page about it, and thought it was pretty interesting:Also just watched this movie. In the scene where Lito (David Belle) is being chased near the beginning of the film the style in which he does it in is in fact called Parkour and was invented by David Belle himself influenced by his father Raymond Belle.
Very interesting. I remember thinking while watching it that the style was very unique, but I couldn't say how. Doesn't surprise me to hear it actually has a name. Just received this from Netflix and am looking forward to seeing it. The trailers looked horrible, but enough people have liked this movie enough for me to want to check it out.Little Miss Sunshine
a good movie. I really don't know how either Alan Arkin or the little girl get Oscar nods for it since it was such an ensemble cast that neither had very big roles. Worth the rental.
Yep - same here. Not giving anything away but the one part (you know which one) was one of the funniest I have seen in a long time. Almost as good as the Hansons in Slap Shot.Wordplay - saw it on a flight. Great flick. Those people are insane.Little Miss Sunshine

I would switch these two . Lock Stock is a masterpiece. Snatch is kindof a remake and definitely in the same style. Liked both but Lock Stock is a great movie...Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.Good, not great. not as good as Snatch but all the same actors.
I literally just finished watching Three Burials, and, um, someone help me out a little bit here. Maybe I'm just too dumb to figure this out, but the ending... huh? And the picture that he had...can someone throw me a bone here? I really enjoyed the movie, but, to be honest, I'm really not sure why. Help?Yup, this is a fantastic movie. I watched it back in the summer and wrote about it in this thread. Glad you liked it.Watched The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada last night and thought it was a very good film. It was written by the same guy who wrote Amores Perros and 21 Grams, two excellent films. It also marks the directorial debut of Tommy Lee Jones, who is the star of the film. Other known cast members include Barry Pepper, Dwight Yoakam, and January Jones. Movie won a couple awards at Cannes last year (Best Actor, Best Screenplay) and got 4 nominations at the Independent Spirit Awards. Was just released on DVD and I'd recommend it if you generally like independent movies with good acting.Awesome movie. Watched it last night based on endorsements from this thread. 2 hours well spent.
i think this is frequently cited as the biggest or one of the biggest influences on tarantino's kill bill... its on my netflix queue short list...i mentioned taking of pelham 1-2-3 upthread as influence on reservoir dogs (color coded criminals)... another one on RDs, supposedly biggest, most direct influence, is hong kong movie city on fire, i think with the dude from hard boiled...Lady Snowblood: Good movie, well done with a interesting plot, but I don´t get the hype. Worth a rent though
The Guardian. Piece of crap rip off movie. They stole scenes directly from Top Gun and An Officer and A Gentlemen. I mean, literally STOLE them. Horrible. Predictable. Copy cat movie. Double thumbs down.

Just saw Little Miss Sunshine last night with the wife. We both really liked it. Very funny and well worth the rental.Little Miss Sunshine

Little Miss Sunshine - Thought it was good but overrated based on comments I heard and oscar nominations. Not as funny as I thought it would be, more serious than expected. Good cast.
This movie apparently won the SAG award last night. And I heard one critic call it the "greatest comedy in years." I just don't understand that level of praise. It was good -- it had some pretty funny parts and some very good performances. But the unbelievable praise for it is unwarranted.Kill Bill definately was influenced by Lady Snowblood. Might be indeed the Tarentino fans that hyped this movie.Watched "Graveyard of Honor" (the old version from the 70ies) yesterday. Very good movie, shows the rise of a Yakuza without honor but a lot of brutality after worldwar 2. The whole pride and honour myth gets destructed. The movie is shot in a fake documentary style that follows the Yakuza through the years. Very well made.i think this is frequently cited as the biggest or one of the biggest influences on tarantino's kill bill... its on my netflix queue short list...i mentioned taking of pelham 1-2-3 upthread as influence on reservoir dogs (color coded criminals)... another one on RDs, supposedly biggest, most direct influence, is hong kong movie city on fire, i think with the dude from hard boiled...Lady Snowblood: Good movie, well done with a interesting plot, but I don´t get the hype. i think a lot of the praise for "LMS" is based on the fact that it is kind of a throwback to comedies from a few years ago. this is a refreshing, gentle comedy.Little Miss Sunshine - Thought it was good but overrated based on comments I heard and oscar nominations. I'm glad I saw this in the theater before I knew much about it. It's a shame that people let hype ruin movies for them - that's not the film's fault. I would be pissed if a commercial gave away the ending for me though.I agree with that. I didn't care for A Very Long Engagement with Audrey Tatou as much.I really enjoyed Being There with Peter Sellers after finally seeing it. Loved all the 70's TV that was in it. Fans of Harold and Maude or Dr. Strangelove should definitely see it you haven't.Finally got to see Delicatessen last night, after wanting to see it for years. I liked it very much. It's not as good as Amelie, but you can see the director perfecting some of the techniques that he would later use in that film.
Did you notice "Also Sprach Zarathustra" when he's walking down that busy street? It's that version of the song that led Phish to play it.I really enjoyed Being There with Peter Sellers after finally seeing it. Loved all the 70's TV that was in it. Yeah, that was cool. How about this - one of the main kids that mess with him on the street is Oteil Burbridge from the Allman Bros. and Aquarium Rescue Unit! Apparently he grew up in D.C. and it's his only film role.Did you notice "Also Sprach Zarathustra" when he's walking down that busy street? Layer CakeAfter seeing this I can't understand why anyone would have doubted Daniel Craig was going to make a kick ### Bond.
Craig isn't has good-looking as some of the previous Bonds, but he is certainly one of the best actors to ever play the role.
