i'll predict that you won't like Michael Clayton.
The movies are in the house along with bonus flick Juno which I am prediciting will be a annoying movie.

Watched Michael Clayton last night. Not what i was expecting really, but decent. Problem with it was if you're going to do a character movie, at least have me care a little about the characters. I thought Civil Action was more well done of the same vein.

Watched Lions for Lambs - maybe it was b/c I was drinking, but I liked this movie more than I imagined I would. THey lay it on pretty thick about the war in Iraq being a bad deal and how we all need to be making the most of ourselves and helping the country. But it's well done. The interaction between Redford and the student is pretty solid.

Watched There MIght Be Blood on Tuesday. Good movie. Very PTA. Beautifully shot and well acted by DDL. That said, I thought the story was sort of "meh." But that's par for the course for Anderson.

Watched Gone Baby Gone Wed. Not as good as Mystic River, but very good. I think that it is the most entertaining of the 4 films. By that I mean if someone asked me which of the 4 to watch and I knew nothing of their tastes, GBG would be a safe choice.

let's see.... a lot of hotel hbo viewing...

"starter for 10" was kind of fun. nothing very original but still a decent coming of age.

ridley scott's "a good year" with russell crowe, albert finney and marion cotillard (oscar winner for "ma vie en rose"). it's a light, rather obvious movie but kind of enjoyable. i'm such a fan of albert finney that i'm willing to indulge him in whatever film roles he chooses. i think as much as anything it gave them an excuse to shoot a film in the south of france.

I watched Buying the Cow this weekend it was a video that was given to me some time ago and I never watched.

I was suprised that this nondescript comedy was actually pretty funny at times. Especially if you like Ryan Reynolds antics, also Alyssa Milano plays a stripper.

Wifey thought it was hilarious.

Buying the Cow 2.5/5

Comedy/Guy worried about getting married comedy/romance
I am going to be brutally honest here - after reading the last couple posts I would seriously think about getting a new wife. If you don't want to go to that extreme and are good with secrets, a movie mistress might be a good alternative too. No secks needed per se, just somebody that will watch and enjoy a good movie now and again.
Paging Krista. Krista, please answer the movie mistress courtesy phone.
 I almost replied with a big red X to the post above that says if you have a date, see 27 Dresses instead of No Country for Old Men, but I restrained myself.
I love it when I/You/We are right.[rain] Watched Once again... this time with the wife. It was a pretty slight movie the first time around- wafer thin, this time. Still with the nice vibe, great music, and subtlety (like and appreciate the NON-Hollywood story and pacing)- but a lot like Oakland. [/parade]

A complete non-movie aside... got tickets to Patrick Stewart in Macbeth for Mom's Day- going next week and I can't wait. With a lot of theater friends and family, I got pretty jaded about theater by the time I was done with Grad School... I haven't been this excited about seeing something since True West with Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Charles C Reilly swapping roles.
Shakespeare is meant to be heard more than read, so that should be good. I just watched Kenneth Branaugh's filmed version of Othello, and that was very good.
Shakespear is a punk. It's all about Jean Luc Picard (lol... I first wrote that Jean Luc Godard).
Ok, trekkie-boy. Don't forget to wear your Spock ears.
Live long, and Prospero.

I couldn't watch that. Found it painful and had to turn it off. Fan of all parties involved, but bleh.

Damn it, Jim. I'm a moneylender - not a doctor. If you shoot me with a phaser, do I not disintegrate?

Watched Next last night. It was okay, but I wouldn't really recommend it as there's nothing really ground breaking or super interesting in it.

But, as I'm watching it, I'm thinking WTF did Nic Cage step in to get so effing lucky? His love interests, girls whom he has gotten to roll around naked with in movies include:

Vanessa Marcil - The Rock

Angelina Jolie - Gone in 60 seconds

Jessica Biel - Next

Bridget Moynahan - Lord of War

I mean WTF!?!?!? And this doesn't even get into the pretty hot Elisabeth Shue, Diane Kruger and Tea Leoni

:lmao:

Diane Kruger and Tea Leoni are more than "pretty hot".As far as Cage goes, being Francis Ford Coppola's son probably doesn't hurt.

On recommendation from here, rented I Stand Alone. I know you can't always be right, I have gotten alot of good recommendations, but this has got to be the worst movie I ever saw, by far. STAY AWAY!!!!!!

Figure being a no-talent hack that stars in really crappy movies would hurt the hottie factor a little though.

Not his son.And the top four I mentioned are 4 of the most beautiful women in the world. I've always had a thing for Leoni, but I don't put her, Kruger or Shue in the hottest women in the World category. They are pretty hot.

I like Kruger more than any of the others listed. Leoni is in the mix somewhere.

Charlie Wilson's War

What a mess. I love Tom Hanks, but he was miscast for this role - I don't buy him as a womanizing, hard-drinking Texan - and it seemed like he mailed it in. Julia Roberts was horrific. The 5-minute montage with the stock footage of the explosions mixed in with the filming of actors playing Afghani people who were discovering how to use their new rocket launchers was just painful...unless you're willing to believe that this movie was intended from the get-go to be a silly comedy. If that's the case and the whole movie is just supposed to be a campy, "Team America: World Police" sort of comedy, then it succeeded. If it was supposed to be anything more, such as an Oscar-worthy movie with a message, then it failed miserably. I'm going to go with the latter.

The only saving grace was Philip Seymour Hoffman, who was briliant as always. 2 out of 5 stars.

Gone Baby Gone - thought it was pretty darn good- 4/5 -. The ending created a nice long discussion between the wife and I.

National Treasure - Not to impressed and we wont be seeing the 2nd one. - 1.5/5

Viewed as black comedy/politcal satire, I thought it worked well. I agree Hanks wasn't the best choice, but if you look at pics of the real Charlie Wilson he didn't look like a hard-drinking womanizer either. And yes, Roberts was terrible. But what else is new.

Loudquietloud: This is a Pixies documentary that I saw on the indie film channel or something this weekend. It followed them during their reunion tour. Kind of interesting that such an influential band has members that are just barely getting by. Interesting stories, though. Didn't realize Kim Deal was a recovering addict (she drinks about a hundred O'Douls during the film). Frank Black's kind of a cocky guy. They could do an entire doc on the drummer alone, though. What a character. Dude's into "magic." He's one of those cheesy magician-types and ends up developing a drug problem on the road. All in all, the band's kind of dorky. Good documentary, though, if you're into them at all.

Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore. Classic 70s film. Like most from that era, not terribly uplifting. This movie was the basis for the TV show "Alice".

I thought the same thing before I watched Juno and was pleasantly surprised.

No idea what I'll rent tonight...I'm still thinking about No Country and wish there were something like it out there....still haven't seen "We Own THe Night"

I also saw The Gods must be Crazy (1980)

This is nice little offbeat comedy about a Bushman who finds a Coke bottle, a schoolteacher, a field researcher and his wise-cracking sidekick and a band of revolutionaries.

A lot of slapstick and a little pondering about the world we've created with all of our labor-saving devices.

6.5/10

She's really more of a movie star than an actor.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.Blech. I like scifi and a lot of the superhero sub-genre but the FF movies are way too campy for my tastes and this one stayed true to that direction.
I couldn't even finish the first FF, so I didn't bother with #2.
I should have know better but I was a huge Silver Surfer fan when I was a kid so I watched it to see him (who was still pretty cool)
Oh hell yes. I was a huge SS fan as a kid.
I watched this last night. I have to agree with Drifter's original post. It's just too...campy I guess is the best word for it. Too bad -- it could be really cool if they took it more seriously.

Think that was me that talked about it in here. Pretty sure I didn't talk about how awesome it is. I remember saying that incest was a topic it covered, and that was probably enough of a basis to keep most people away. I did enjoy the tension built up as the guy went off the deep end. :goodposting:

I'll never get the hate for these movies. Sure they're no Raiders of the Lost Ark. But they're not The DaVinci Code either.I liked both of them. The first more than the second, but still...
 Own the first one and plan on picking up #2 tomorrow. good  flicks.

Last night, I watched Bang the Drum Slowly because the boyfriend had fallen asleep on me and I couldn't reach the remote to turn it off. It was still an awfully good movie, not nearly as dated as I would have thought. It kept me amused and entertained. I thought a young Robert DeNiro was pretty much a terrible actor. Did anyone see this? What did you think of his performance? Anyway, 3.5/5.

Somehow I got sucked into watching Virus on Friday night right after work.

What a horrendous movie. Yet still, like a trainwreck, I felt compelled to watch and it was entertaining in a terrifically schlocky way. It would be a great MST3K movie.

How do good actors like Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Sutherland end up in movies like this?

he's not above just getting a paycheck. honestly, he's one of my favorite actors of that generation - brian cox and albert finney come to mind too - to watch. i watched sutherland on bravo's "actor's studio" years ago and the man seems really smart.

If you are looking for something dark, I'd recommend these:After Dark, My Sweet

Downfall

The Sweet Hereafter
"days of heaven" is pretty fantastic.
 it's already in my queue. I wasn't sure about seeing it, but your recommendation helps.

Southerland's accent in that movie is hilariously bad

They have Nic Cage in them. For some of us, that's reason enough to hate them. :excited:
