Bangkok Dangerous: This movie could have been very good if it didn't have Nicholas Cage in it. I can't believe how horrible of an actor he has turned into. He is supposed to be playing a kick-### assassin yet he acts identical to every other one of his freakin roles. Just pathetic. There are a couple scenes when he is training his new pupil that are just painful and almost made me turn it off right then. Without Cage in it, I would have given the movie 3.5/5. With Cage, 1/5.
I haven't seen this movie, but wtf has happened to Nic Cage? There was a time, long ago, when he was a good actor.

(I'm guessing at least 15+ years ago...)I was one of the people that really liked this one as well - sadly one of my favorites of the last year or so. One of those Rom-coms that at least try to be mildly realistic but still has heart, laughs, etc.. On par with Love Actually (check that movie out if you haven't seen it either). You could do a ton worse in this genre, so all males file these titles away for when your S.O. wants to curl up to a movie. I have a thing for Rachel Weisz (sp?), so I'd put Banks as the 3rd hottest in the movie.Definitely, Maybe - 8/10
Can obviously be described as a "check-flick", but I thought it had an original storyline and it wasn't totally predictable. I also dig Isla Fisher AND Elizabeth Banks, so that was a bonus for me. My wife also loved this movie, as could be expected. Great movie to see with your significany other.
Vanilla Sky is also one of my all time favorites.I really liked Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Say Anything..., Singles and Almost Famous. That movie looks terrible, and I can't bring myself to watch it.I'd make fun of you, but I own a copy of The Evil DeadI find my boyfriend watching Jerry Maguire.* I forgot how much I love this movie. I'm a sucker for nearly everything Cameron Crowe makes
I'd argue that Jerry Maguire is his worst movie. (Don't think I've seen Elizabethtown)Around the time he won an Oscar for Best Actor.I am also in the "Definitely, Maybe" is good category. I reviewed it a while back, but thought it was very funny and clever for about the first 2/3. The last third almost killed it for me (too sappy), but most of it was very good. Love Actually is outstanding.Yeah, when was that?Bangkok Dangerous: This movie could have been very good if it didn't have Nicholas Cage in it. Adaptation Down?I really enjoyed that movie, Cage pulled off the twins really well. I enjoyed primarily because it was a Jonze/Kaufman collaboration, but Cage really turned in an excellent performance. Also enjoyed him in Raising Arizona, The Rock, and Deadfall. Face/Off is one of my guily pleasures as well.Yeah, when was that?Bangkok Dangerous: This movie could have been very good if it didn't have Nicholas Cage in it. Absolutely couldn't stand the guy in almost everything else, his neurotic behavior is amusing at times but is usually so over the top it makes me want to turn it off.

Fixed.Cage can make fun movies. Face/Off is a total joke. But I suppose that Cage's hammy, screen-munching bravado could be characterized as entertaining....he has been in a lot of good mediocre movies.
Snake Eyes, 8MM, Con Air, Kiss of Death, Matchstick Men, Lord of War
Like I said, not necessarily good movies by some definitions, but entertaining and enjoyableAnd I dont see how you cant include The Rock in his good movies. Its IMO the best pure action flick of the last 25 years probablyFixed.Cage can make fun movies. Face/Off is a total joke. However, Con Air is just ###. Awful. Cage made three or four good movies (Moonstruck, Leaving Las Vegas, Adaptation, and The Weatherman). Aside from those, most of his career littered with cinematic flotsam and jetsam.
I could argue that Cage is talented. It's just that he's wasted that bit of talent on a bunch of detritus.
This movie looks terrible, and I am glad you posted further incentive to avoid it.watched The Mist last night. mostly a popcorn flick. over-the-top caricatures as characters killed any sense of horror. ham-handed ending. two out of five stars.

Oy. Michael Bay is the devil. These were all released within the last 25 years, and I think these are all a lot better than The RockAnd I dont see how you cant include The Rock in his good movies. Its IMO the best pure action flick of the last 25 years probably
I said pure action movie, and the only ones that fit the bill that you listed were Bourne Supremacy (I thought this was the worst of the trilogy BTW), Lethal Weapon, and Die Hard.I personally would take The Rock over all of them, but I could see how others might enjoy the other 3 more.Oy. Predator - Scifi action
Robocop - Semi Scifi action
Terminator 2 - Very Scifi action
Gladiator - Not an action flick
The Matrix - Very Scifi
Aliens - Very Scifi
The Bourne Supremacy
Kill Bill, Vol. 1 & 2 I would not call these action, especially 2
Lethal Weapon
The Incredibles Kids movie
Die Hard
Now, you like The Rock - and that's cool. I'm not asking you to feel differently. But Predator and Terminator 2 are pure action flicks. Yes, they have a sci-fi blend. But poll 100 guys, and 98 of them will tell you those are action flicks.I said pure action movie, and the only ones that fit the bill that you listed were Bourne Supremacy (I thought this was the worst of the trilogy BTW), Lethal Weapon, and Die Hard.I personally would take The Rock over all of them, but I could see how others might enjoy the other 3 more.Oy. Then you need to see Dear Frankie. Great movie, and she's very good in it.Just saw Transsiberian, great movie.....I'm now pretty much in love with Emily Mortimer![]()
Maybe I don't understand. You think The Rock is realistic, or unrealistic?Just saying when I mean "pure" action flicks, I basically meant non-fiction/realistic action movies. Not to say invisible aliens may actually have been on Earth, or John McClain could actually kill a mess of terrorists singlehandedly, but I think you know what I mean, right??

Face/Off.Wow...that was really, really dreadful, as is Cage. Seriously, none of us would know his name if he weren't FF Coppola's nephew. He's been decent here and there, luckily for him in some good movies, but his awful performances far outweigh his respectable ones.hooter311 said:Adaptation Down?I really enjoyed that movie, Cage pulled off the twins really well. Hah...Ironically, I watched this for teh 2nd time last night as well, and think Im going to agree with you that Begins is the superior film. Now, seeing Dark Knight at the IMAX was unreal, but watching it again and not having the anticipation I did when I saw it first kind of proved what I had thought that Begins is more rewatchable. I would almost say Begins is undoubtedly more rewatchable if not for Ledgers great performance.Watched The Dark Knight again last night.
Really want to like this one more than Batman Begins, but I just can't. I am still of the opinion that they tried to do too much with this one and it suffered b/c of it. One of the main reasons is besause it started to cross over the line of over the top action movie sometimes. Batman's always had his cool toys to play with, but the Hong Kong scene really took away from the movie with him flying off of rooftops. (Also, when did he develop super strength? - he bent a gun/rifle in the beginning of the movie). The scene where he's on his batcycle and doesn't engage the Joker still annoys me, and don't think they needed as much two-face at the end.
Don't get me wrong, it's still a damn good action movie. I loved the 1st one and really don't have a complaint about that one (except they could've had a better Rachel). I'd rate this one just below the first one. On an action movie scale I'd have Begins as a 9.5-10 and the Dark Knight more at an 8.5-9.
momentarily. I agree on 2Face though. I didnt see any need to rush Dent's character to the point of him being 2Face, followed by him only being 2Face for about the last 30 minutes or so. Not only do I think I wouldve been better to give Joker more lines/screentime, but now with Ledger gone Im assuming Joker wouldnt be in the next one (if there is a next one), and you just killed off a big villain who wasnt ever in 1/3 of the movie.Good stuffI'm currently re-watching Babe, because it's on. I defy anyone to tell me this isn't a great movie.
For me, this is a good movie that is made great by a Heath Ledger that is nothing less than brilliant. To be blunt, while I am a Bale fan, his ridiculous fake low Batman scary voice is silly. But Ledger's Joker goes down as one of my top 10 favorite characters of all time.Watched The Dark Knight again last night.

This is an awful movie. Reminds me of another classic movie: A Woman Under the Influence. Acting is good, dialogue is excellent, but these movies stink. Threadbare plot with characters no one cares about.krista4 said:Five Easy Pieces: Jack Nicholson is brilliant, but other than the classic diner scene, I found this a bit boring. 2/5
I agree about Ledger. However, on multiple viewings I knew what to expect. I think that added to my liking the movie less the 2nd time. Still an amazing performance but I wasn't as distracted by it or glued to the set because of it and I was picking up on the rest of the movie and what I didn't like about it. Still worth anybody renting to see Heath's performance for sure. For me, this is a good movie that is made great by a Heath Ledger that is nothing less than brilliant. Liked this a lot too, even better than I expectedI guess its not really a war movie per se, but if it were, its the best war movie Ive seen in awhileThe Kingdom - Absolutely loved this flick.
Definitely my favorite John Cusack movie after High FidelityI watched a few over the last few days.
Grosse Pointe Blank
I hadn't seen this for a few years. An odd movie. John Cusack as a professional killer. Comedy works best in this type of movie in my opinion. One thing that did surprise me was the excellent soundtrack. Plenty of British punk, and classics from the Pixies and Violent Femmes, among others. Quite a well-done movie.

I like this movie a lot. Obviously, Lewis and DiCaprio were very good. Additionally, the painstaking attention to historical details was interesting, as well.Gangs of New York
I avoided this when it came out because I thought it would be too violent for my tastes. The opening sequence had me worried but I had to check out another Daniel Day-Lewis movie after being so impressed by There Will Be Blood. I am glad I did. The setting and atmosphere was superb. I was definitely drawn into the story. Daniel Day-Lewis was as good as I expected and LDC was excellent too. It's a good sign when a long movie ends and you are wishing for another hour.
The costumes and the set all added to the feel of the thing. I felt that I was "in danger" while I was watching.jdoggydogg said:I like this movie a lot. Obviously, Lewis and DiCaprio were very good. Yeah. I think Scorsese has found his new DeNiro in DiCaprio.
