watched kind of a creepy/weird horror movie last year called "Kill List" that came recommended. it felt like a throwback creepy film in that 70's "Wicker Man" vein and i enjoyed it. it had a good tension to it. the director - Ben Wheatley - did an earlier film called "A Field in England" which is also kind of weird, tense and violent. period film - 17th century England, amid the civil wars - it wasn't nearly as good but still has moments. Wheatley seems to be a director on the rise with a new one called High Rise.

Taking my 15 year old son to Deadpool tonight.

Any opinion on whether I'll get in trouble for taking my 12 year old daughter? She's seen a lot that she isn't necessarily supposed to. But still. Anyone seen it or have thoughts?

Stumbled across this trailer on IMDB. I think this may be the most awesome movie ever.

Entire movie from a first person point of view looks fun but.. Even though I don't get motion sickness at all, I'm not sure I could handle 2 hours of that view in a theater :oldunsure:
:goodposting:

I got tired of it by the end of the trailer.
+1 ... looks better than Jeruzlem, though... which I just watched/reviewed yesterday

3. Will my kids like it?

Your kids aren’t going to see it because you’re a good parent, right? Look, I’m not going to tell you what to do with your kids, but this is a very hard “R”-rated movie. There is violence, nudity, and language — all in very strong quantity. There are a lot of amputations, crotch shots (punches), crotch shots (full frontal), and an almost constant stream of sexual innuendo and outright vulgarities. To top it off, you’d get carpal tunnel trying to count the profanities. I went with another dad to preview it before taking our kids — which we really wanted to do. We came to the conclusion that we couldn’t justify taking our 14-year-olds. It was just too much. You? You make your own choice. But don’t take younger kids. You’ll be ridiculed.

Yeah, that is going to be challenging but it looks like they intend to have a lot of fun with it.

Tomorrow, When the War Began - don't get much more ripoff-y than this.... Australian version of Red Dawn, to a tee. Only difference was, this wasn't very good. Great eye candy and some promising young actors but took wayyy too long in the lead-up, hardly any plot and an incredibly unsatisfying ending. It's like they set it up for a sequel but... 4/10

Yes, that much camera movement ruins a potentially good film.

Attack on Titan 3.5/5

Pretty good. I really liked the anime series and the movie was just as intense with fun CGI. I wish it wasn't an all Japanese cast though.

Holy crap, Deadpool was awesome. Took my 15-year old son. Which was fine. Sooooooooo glad I sent my daughter to a different movie (pride prejudice and zombies). This was such a fantastically filthy movie.

Watched A Walk Among The Tombstones again on cable.

I really like this one - dark, moody, truly evil villains, a believable lead. It's worth checking out.
I liked it a lot and their plan was a whole series of Matthew Scudder films, but I think it only grossed about $12,450.

Lawrence Block wrote about 50 Matthew Scudder novels and I enjoyed them all.

Another Scudder film would be good.Too bad the gross was so low on the first one.

Furious 7. Not as good as 6 or 7 but embraces the ridiculousness of the previous. Really well done how they handled the Paul Walker stuff

Spectre. Love this movie. My favorite Bond movie I think. Will have to watch again to be sure.
I think that is the first positive thing I have heard about Spectre.
Same here. Seemed like a Daniel Craig greatest hits tour.
Watched it again last night. By far my favorite Bond. This movie was perfect. Loved every little nod to the Bond universe. Hope Craig doesn't stop because he has perfected this role.

Since I really enjoyed Sicario, I've decided to get excited about that director's adaptation of the new Blade Runner sequel.
Just watched Sicario tonight. Good but I am not sure I get the hype.

What kept it from being great for you?

I'm not sure.  The tension created was incredible and I like how early on the director explicitly told the audience that we would not understand at first but then it would make sense but it never did.  I also became unsure about whose story was being told at some point, initially it seemed to obviously be about Blunt but then it really seemed to become del Toro's story.  And frankly the whole

U.S. "spooks" deposing one drug lord in favor of another
theme just didn't resonate with me.  I think we passed that point back in the 80s and it just doesn't reflect my level of :tinfoilhat:  in 2016.

Good, tension packed film but just a little disjointed and :tinfoilhat:  for me.

Deadpool OTOH is 100% pure awesome.  It found the appropriate note and played it to near perfection.

I had to google OTOH, please keep this thread old guy friendly.   :P

Predestination - The buildup took up the first half of the movie and was really slow. A lot of it was easy to figure out as it went along so there wasn't a BAM twist reveal. It is a bit more involved once you find out the whole story. Not horrible but not something I could recommend. 2.5/5

Spectre was more fun than the first 3 Craig Bonds. Agree on the first scene being great, although not near as great as the opening chase scene in Casino Casino Opening . I thought the gadgets and Christopher Waltz as the villain were excellent.

One thing that did strike me was how Craig looked older than 48. Couple of times i thought he looked like he was pushing late 50s and wondered how they'd make any more with him at this age already. Maybe it was the cinematography or lighting or what not.

Sicario was 9.0/10. I liked that :tinfoilhat: story arc but agree on the suspense factor. The tunnel sequence was edge of your seat stuff and as someone mentioned earlier, the soundtrack was spot on and definitely added to the movie. The ending seemed like a bail out. As good as the rest of the movie was for grabbing you by the cojones and squeezing, i thought they let go there and really kept the movie from being a 9.8.

I am not sure about the music, it was very cool but at times it really ramped up to the point that it had me focusing on the music which took me out of the movie.

Anyone know how I can do a sit at home/private viewing of Deadpool?

ETA:  I used to use Watch 32 and it was hit or miss quality wise, but titles were usually easy to find once you got past the 15 pop ups. Now I can't get anything to play.

Furious 7 was awesome.
Great fun ride.. Thought the Safe being dragged through the streets destroying buildings was going to be tough to top..
Then we had the Tank down the freeway and now Cars Parachuting out of panes, and cars jumping across not one, but TWO buildings..

Can't wait to see how they top that. :excited:

Take it from me, 48 is pretty ####### old.

I don't know how you could not like these movies.  They are perfect.  Not a single complaint with any of it, and this one might have been the best one.  Jason Statham adds a ton and Russell was even fun.  And they handled Paul Walker pretty much perfectly I thought.

Yea.. the room got a little dusty during the ending

The Martian - 3.5/5

I liked it but other survival movies have been done better.  Plus you just know exactly how Matt Damon is going to be in a movie like that.  Absolutely loved hearing Starman by David Bowie.  That was the best part.
