Bridge of Lies

Spielberg/Coen Bros/Hanks project with Spielberg's schmaltzy sentimentality, some darkish art direction I'm sure the Coen's painted and the ever reliably earnest Hanks. They made a consistently engaging movie that lasts almost two and a half hours with mostly dialogue, but no car crashes nor nudity. Never raises to the level of its pedigree, but solid if you don't had ADD.

3.89/5 stars

Crimson Peak

Guillermo del Toro's latest, a gothic romance that held little appeal to me from the advance word and promos. It captured and held my interest more than I would have imagined. Fantastic art direction, and some great characters/acting/direction kept me kept me interested, if not riveted, in a genre I don't particularly enjoy.

3.75/5 stars

Maze Runner

Kind of liked the first one. This one was okay but not as good add the first. Held my interest and had kind of a fun post-apocalyptic vibe in the second half

2.53/5 stars

The Intern

Hathaway, DeNiro and the supporting cast were all very good, but really didn't like the vehicle used for the third act, nor the Resolution. This should have been an easy 3.5 or 4 star film, but they misplayed the great cards they dealt themselves and ended up with tepid sentinentality.

started it late last night, and then couldn't turn off even though I'd seen it before... Flirting With Disaster. don't remember where this fits in on Russell's filmography, but IIRC, it's early or first. a bit more sit-commy than I remembered, but the San Diego family was ####### priceless. pretty much every encounter along the way was great. loved the Rave son at Alda/Tomlin's... licking the armpit... tea leoni looking fantastic (and I always had a soft spot for Arquette too). stiller basically does his usual thing- but the timing worked great, especially with the ensemble.
Good movie. The armpit scene is a classic.

Steve Jobs: Man in the Machine - hardcore Apple fans won't like it but it's the best documentary or movie I've seen about him.

American Ultra - some funny moments but you probably saw them in the trailer.

I don't know if I want to admit watching the movie I just saw.
Magic Mike?
No but he was in it.
Jupiter Ascending?
Yup.

The sad thing is - to me - the movie had potential. The underlying story of humanity being stretched out over the universe and Earth being a harvesting planet to keep other humans alive for centuries was actually a pretty neat idea. Mila looked awesome as always and I like Tatum in action movies for the most part. But so much was bad. Really bad. It might be a Battlefield Earth type movie.

22 Jump Street - pretty funny. I'm in on this series as I'm sure they'll make more.
They will, did you watch the credits? There's a lot coming.

I liked 22 Jump Street way more than most people. For a throwaway comedy I give it 4 stars out of 5. Liked it more than 21 Jump Street

Yeah I'm in for the culinary school one, the Seth Rogen one, and the Generations one for sure.

Same boat.

If the scene is near when Tatum figures out Jonah is banging cubes daughter, I watch it Every time

I finally saw Inside Out. I really liked it. Not only was there plenty of humor, but I was surprised at how much suspense and tension those characters created. I cared more about Riley and felt more on the edge of my seat in this movie than at any point of Mad Max fury road.

Team America: World Police - 2/10

I did guffaw in a couple spots.

But in general, just...no.
At least 7/10 just for I'm So Ronery
One point is for the process and result of disguising Gary. The other point is for the fight between F.A.G. and Team America in the palace.
Dude, the sex scene is worth 4 points on its own.

7.5/10 The Martian

Was looking forward to seeing this and caught it in 3D. With really good movies, I feel the need to watch them more than once. With this one I am good with my first and only viewing. I am glad I seen it but there isn't anything great about it. Good movie, nothing groundbreaking.

I am all about properly calibrating expectations before seeing movies and I had the most minimal of possible expectations for Jupiter Ascending and it still failed to achieve them. It was a steaming pile of stupid, piled on top of a bigger steamier pile of even more stupid. It was gargantuan in its capacity for stupid. An ode to stupid wrapped in an homage to stupid surrounded by an epic of pure stupid. Its stupid dial goes to twelve.

Then again, maybe I should watch it again.

Disagree. Turns out Trey Parker and Matt Stone included pretty much all of the additional doll sex scenes as a means to distract the MPAA so as to give them something they could demand be edited out lest they give the film an X rating while preserving the scenes which are technically forbidden that M&T actually wanted to include in the final cut.

Jupiter Ascending was garbage. Beautiful, breathtakingly beautiful garbage. It was the prettiest ####ty movie I have ever seen.
