Bothe Castaway and ID4 were imperfect movies bordering on crap, but I still liked them. This entire conversation is like listening to my 7 year old son and 4 year old daughter have deep, philosophical conversations about mud.

I thought Mud was one of matthew mcconaughey's better films.

The story here is that Y23F has always busted my balls over liking Cast Away. I reciprocated with his liking of ID4.

Then we engaged in some Python-esque silliness involving volleyballs, Randy Quaid, et al.

Don't get too deep in the weeds about this.

Germany Year Zero

Interesting movie. Can't decide if it was intended to be taken at face value or as allegory.

Either way, interesting look into the German psyche post WW2.

I always thought that you and Y23F were kinda the same person, like the main character(s) in Fight Club.

Seriously.  You people take things way too seriously sometimes.

Meanwhile, I watched Furious 7 again last night.  I love this movie.  Vin Diesel and crew need some kind of special academy award for this franchise at this point.  Coolest most awesomest car cash action movie that actually tried to give Vin deep philosophical lines like he is Jimmy Stewart.  You can fit that on a trophy I'm sure.

I also thought this for a while. No shtick. I think I misread one of their posts early on in a way that implied one was a backup alias for the other. For maybe a year I thought they were the same guy.

We are quite similar. It's easy to tell the difference though. He's a terrible speller. :clyde:

Watched Green Room last night.   Didn't have any expectations and enjoyed it quite a bit.   It has some decent suspense to it.   You can tell it was not a high budget film but I think that added to it.   8/10

Just looked it up.   5 million budget.   Some really good talent in a 5 million film.

The lead actor, Anton Yelchin, just died in a freak car accident about a week ago, when his Jeep rolled into him and pinned him..RIP.

Got my kid the Lego Droid Tales disc. Very entertaining. In particular, their rendition of episodes I-III is a million times better than the source material.

Just watched Edge of Tomorrow with my son. He loved it. His comment when it ended. ...

So, he is the Omega now, right?

I feel that this is a dad win. I'm counting it.

The Big Short - 8/10

Taking material that should be dull and incomprehensible and making it an understandable and fun ride is an amazing feat.

London Has Fallen

Fun ride.  Would have liked more British monuments exploding scenes and less Modern Warfare but it is what it is.  Nothing special but didn't hate it.

I hated the overdone camerawork in it. Constant movement and zoom ins made it a headache to try to watch. In fact I gave up early on it.

Not really a big kids animation fan but I like animal centered ones. Checked out Zootopia not realizing it was a Disney film. Overall, meh but not horrible. The DMV was worth it all though.

See, that was my big problem with the movie. First 45 minutes were great. Talking about stereotypes, tolerance, not prejudging people. And then here come the Sloths, and they are slooowwww...And of course they work at the DMV. Yeah, it was a little funny, but it went against everything they were talking about before that

The Secret Life of Pets was hilarious. Best movie I've seen since The Jungle Book (sans kids for both).

I don't know what it says about me that I like children's movies all of a sudden...maybe I'm regressing.
Loved the first 5 minutes then was pretty much bored to tears for the last 85 minutes.

Secret Life of Pets is only doing meh critically as well.

6.8 on IMDB

69% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes

75% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes

61 Metacritic score

Bone Tomahawk 4/5

In a different type of western. Kurt Russell plays a sheriff in the west whose part of a

4 man posse set out to rescue a group of captives held by cannibal cave dwellers.
I really liked this even though they could have easily shave off 30 minutes of the movie.   7.5/10.   It was a pleasant surprise as I didn't know anything about the movie.

i saw it with my 6 year old. He liked it a lot but I was pretty meh. It had a total mess - overstuffed really - in terms of plot but the talent was there. Better than a lot of the kids movies. Louis CK was especially good as was Jenny Slate.

Interesting, I thought Louis CK was almost completely wasted, not in the good way, in the roll.

Make Way For Tomorrow 8/10

Might be the saddest movie I've ever seen.

Almost turned it off halfway through as it was a bit over the top in terms of character behavior. But the last 1/3 all the way through to the end hits like an emotional freight train with outstanding performances by the two leads.

Only part that had us both really laughing.

where did you see it?

I don't disagree but then the script was a mess. Lots of kids flicks are. I thought he was actually pretty good doing VO work. Not every actor has that skill.

I guess but I just didn't feel that he brought any of his style to the character, like there was no ad libs during the script readings.  It could have my  been Louis Bomberger buddy from the old neighborhood and it would have ended up the same in my eyes.

Valhalla Rising 6/10

A wasted opportunity IMHO, just got a bit too abstract in the last third of the movie.  The first half of the show was pretty good, but I'm a sucker for the genre.

I was shocked that the Tina Fey war reporter movie "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot" was actually watchable.  There is something that happens within the first 10 minutes of the movie that almost made me stop it, but I stuck with it and there were some true laugh out loud moments.  Worth a trip to Redbox.
