Independence Day.
The original one. Still as awesome althought it really really needs a movie screen for the destruction of Washington and other cities. Will Smith in all his summer blockbuster awesomeness. Goldblum throwing in Jurassic Park one liners. The President of the United States flying a combat mission. Can't go wrong.

Wanted to like this as I still enjoy watching the first one any time it is on... But it fell flat for me...
Didn't care at all about the two characters who were having their "Top Gun" moment..
Having the ex-president go from a drooling fool to a man giving the inspiration speech yet again was ridiculous
I give the first one a 5 out of 5 for
movie ... This one, at best, gets a 2.5 out of 5 for me.. So much potential that failed... Saying that...They left it WIDE OPEN for more... and if they go interstellar with the next one I'm in!

I watched this when it came out on a military base where my cousin was stationed. At the beginning of the movie, they make everyone stand for the national anthem so it was kinda extra "patriotic". There's a part in the movie where one of the countries is using Morse code and he says something like:Yankee23Fan said:
"It's from the Americans. They want to organize a counter-strike!" and the other guys says "About bloody time".
Seemingly everyone in the theater chants out "U S A!!!". good goosebump moment.

I hear you- I'm that way with post-apoc movies. I could watch The Postman a million-billion times, even though I can objectively realize it's garbage.

Goodfellas is a classic. The Departed is probably a classic. Don't think Wolf matches up. An entertaining near-hit.

That's not what I said though. I said logical internal consistency. Movies can have their own rules but they can't break them at will.

Wilson is what kept him alive. That was the point of the relationship. IF not for Wilson he would have went insane and killed himself. The movie makes that pretty clear. In that, yes, Wilson was the hero that kept island man in the fight for his life. So, Quaid to further your analogy.If you think the hero of Cast Away was Wilson, no wonder you like ID4.

I liked both movies but have to give the emotional edge to ID4. I can get fired up about kicking some space alien butt in a stolen space ship and fending off extinction. I can't get fired up over a guy who can't kill himself the way he wanted to and, in the end, had the key to his rescue in his hands the whole time and didn't use it. ID4 characters used every resource and then some and even made up some stuff. Noland didn't open the box and get off the island before he went crazy.

I liked the first half of ID4. If it had continued as a dark action movie instead of devolving into a comedic B-movie it would have ruled.

I accept this. I would have enjoyed it much more if we saw other cities getting blowed up. Chicago, Moscow, London. Granted the budget would have been in the billions but it would have been glorious.

The Lobster is playing in several places in San Francisco, but I imagine it's harder to find in smaller cities.

Arguing that Wilson is the hero of Castaway is at best a stretch but to be fair acting like ID4 revolved around Randy Quaid is too. The guy was a tertiary character who probably had less screen time in ID4 than Wilson did in Castaway.
