The Brothers Grimsby:

I tried, and am usually a big fan of SBC's movies.  Hell I even laughed a bit at The Dictator.  Couldn't make it through.  I laughed a couple times, but I think it was just too much for me last night.  My laugh boner started drooping as soon as Rebel Wilson showed up (really don't find her funny at all), and pulled the plug shortly after the elephants.
I don't even know who you are anymore.

Independence Day: Resurgence - Objectively speaking I'd say it's about as entertaining as the first one.  Some parts better, some worse but overall it's a solid summer popcorn flick.

The Lobster

This movie is ####ed up, and I loved every minute of it. Highly recommended to independent film fans.
good to hear...GF and I both looking forward to it!

eta- here is the trailer for those that haven't heard about it. may or may not be SFW.

Independence Day.

The original one.  Still as awesome althought it really really needs a movie screen for the destruction of Washington and other cities.  Will Smith in all his summer blockbuster awesomeness.  Goldblum throwing in Jurassic Park one liners.  The President of the United States flying a combat mission.  Can't go wrong.

Wanted to like this as I still enjoy watching the first one any time it is on... But it fell flat for me...

Didn't care at all about the two characters who were having their "Top Gun" moment..
Having the ex-president go from a drooling fool to a man giving the  inspiration speech yet again was ridiculous

I give the first one a 5 out of 5 for  movie ...  This one, at best, gets a 2.5 out of 5 for me.. So much potential that failed... Saying that...
They left it WIDE OPEN for more... and if they go interstellar with the next one I'm in!

I watched this when it came out on a military base where my cousin was stationed.  At the beginning of the movie, they make everyone stand for the national anthem so it was kinda extra "patriotic".  There's a part in the movie where one of the countries is using Morse code and he says something like:

"It's from the Americans. They want to organize a counter-strike!" and the other guys says "About bloody time".

Seemingly everyone in the theater chants out "U   S   A!!!".  good goosebump moment.

This is your Cast Away, bub.

When I like a movie I want it to be four hours.
In hour in I was thinking this was a classic.  But it got repetitive and a bit silly.

Do you disagree it's not considered a classic at this point?

Goodfellas is a classic.  The Departed is probably a classic.  Don't think Wolf matches up.  An entertaining near-hit.

I was hesitant to watch Deadpool since I'm kinda bored with superhero movies, although I do like origin stories and I wasn't sure I'd be into the humor of it but I found it fun and entertaining from start to finish.

Jello, popcorn, steak, and Peeps all taste good too. But I wouldn't prepare one dish with them.

ID4 sucks and you know it.
Good morning...... good morning.  In less than an hour, aircraft from here will join others around the world.  And you will be launching the largest aerial battle in the history of mankind.  Mankind; that wod should have new meaning for us today.  We can't be consummed by our pety differences any longer.  We will be united in our common interest.  Perhaps it is fate that today is the 4th of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom.  Not from tyranny, oppression or persecution - but from annihilation.  We're fighting for our right to live.  To exist.  And should we win the day, the 4th of July shall no longer be an American holiday, but as the day when the world declared in one voice:

We will not go quietly into the night!  We will not perish without a fight! We're going to live on!  We're going to survive!  Today - we celebrate our Independence Day!

The jello and popcorn are fine, steak is awesome, and you can give the peeps to your kids so they live you alone.

The hero of your movie is Randy Quaid.

Randy. Quaid.

And who could forget this amazing exchange?:

Russel Casse: [Russell's final missile malfunctions] Do me a favor. Tell my children... I love them very much.

[Sets a collision course]

Russel Casse: All right, you alien #######s! In the words of my generation: Up... YOURS!

President Thomas Whitmore: Good luck, buddy!

Russel Casse: Ha-ha-ha! Hello, boys! I'm BAAAAAACK!

That's just GREAT  materiel right there..

I'm not sure I even know who you are any more if you can't enjoy lines like that in a  flick.

I'm sorry, was this an attempted dig?

The hero of your movie was a volleyball.

A volleyball.  With blood on it.  And hair. At best Quaid and Wilson negate each other.

I was really hoping for a Randy Quaid cameo in the new movie

If you think the hero of Cast Away was Wilson, no wonder you like ID4. :pokey:

I suppose the hero of Citizen Kane is the sled?

Wilson is what kept him alive.  That was the point of the relationship.  IF not for Wilson he would have went insane and killed himself.  The movie makes that pretty clear.  In that, yes, Wilson was the hero that kept island man in the fight for his life.  So, Quaid to further your analogy.

And this much more fun that beating tim up in his thread.

I may have been watching movies incorrectly all this time. Other unrecognized film heroes...

THE Maltese Falcon

The telephone in The Matrix

Indy's bull whip

The Inception top

I need to revisit a lot of movies I guess.

This could actually be a fun(ny) time waster.

"Don't worry Wilson, I'll do all the paddling. You just hang on."...Chuck Noland, from Castaway

I liked both movies but have to give the emotional edge to ID4.  I can get fired up about kicking some space alien butt in a stolen space ship and fending off extinction.  I can't get fired up over a guy who can't kill himself the way he wanted to and, in the end, had the key to his rescue in his hands the whole time and didn't use it. ID4 characters used every resource and then some and even made up some stuff.  Noland didn't open the box and get off the island before he went crazy.

It was the box that gave him purpose and hope.

I wasn't really a fan of either ID4 or Castaway when they came out.  I came around to ID4 over time but haven't really revisited Castaway.

I liked the first half of ID4. If it had continued as a dark action movie instead of devolving into a comedic B-movie it would have ruled.
I accept this.  I would have enjoyed it much more if we saw other cities getting blowed up.  Chicago, Moscow, London.  Granted the budget would have been in the billions but it would have been glorious.

Just a warning: The Lobster is purposely confusing.

But to defend that decision, so much of movies are spelled out so clearly and obviously, I like some mystery.

Arguing that Wilson is the hero of Castaway is at best a stretch but to be fair acting like ID4 revolved around Randy Quaid is too.  The guy was a tertiary character who probably had less screen time in ID4 than Wilson did in Castaway.

I think you MAY have missed something...
