My son comes over every Sunday night for dinner. We had watched ST:TNG, then started Battlestar Galactia, but I am still looking for Season 2.

So two weeks ago, we started watching '80's Sci-Fi movies.

2 weeks ago: Total Recall

Last week: Blade Runner

And last night; Robocop. The most enjoyable so far.

Next week will be The Hidden, followed by The Thing, The Live and the original Terminator.

Lay on the coffee supplies, docufans. Another full card of documentaries tonite on Turner Classic Movies, including Grey Gardens - so delightfully wacky it inspired a Broadway musical & Hollywood film - @ 10:45pm, Crumb @ 12:45am and Burdens of Dreams - about WHerzog's insane quest to make the movie Fitzcarraldo about an insane quest - after that @ 3:00am.

Fox had the SW trilogy on this weekend- recorded them all to show 9yo floppinho. SW culture has pervaded so much, that nothing was terribly new to him even though he's never seen it- but he was definitely loving the first one... whatever they're calling it.

we all saw Moana yesterday. Disney sure knows how to do the empowered princess movie. not breaking any new ground here, but the lin-manuel miranda music was nice and it looked absolutely fantastic. would definitely recommend for those with kids. also a nice little germane clement "cameo".

i love that movie. it's impossible to believe it would get made today like that today. it's like Apocalypse Now in that regard.

watched "Rick and Morty" last night with my 6 year old son. A buddy of mine recommended it because he watches it with his 7 year old daughter. funny show but soooooo not appropriate for kids that age. i text him later and he was like "sorry, i was kidding..."

Rick and Morty is awesome, but not at all appropriate for someone under the age of 13.

The Regular Show is hilarious, and wacky in the same way. Has your son watched it?

Well, the greatest treat of TCM's just-ended month of documentaries was saved for near last. Antonio Gaudi - nothing more than cameras tracing the great architect's work - was on in the wee hours a couple of days ago and it has changed my life.

I breezed thru Barcelona 40some years ago as a hippie hitchhiker and frankly thought Gaudi was gawdy - trivial & glib. One of the few gifts of growing old is the chance life gives you to change your mind. I was intrigued by a TV piece i'd seen some years ago on the Sagrada Familia, informed by posts here lauding his work in the Great Works Draft and such, and came to embrace his passion & originality. After watching this film - three times in two days - though, i'm starting to consider him the greatest slice o' god on earth since Mozart. That he used natural lines to create an even greater gothic sublimity than Chartres - my previous favorite building - and capture patterns that could only otherwise exist in dreams to make benches, bungalows, bridges is nothing short of divine. Following the jazz of it just these three times unlocked a blockage in my work that i've been trying to get at for a year. Extraordinary. wikkid say check it.

I've always had trouble "getting" his work, but also figured I didn't have proper context/perspective.  Will check this out.

No commentary but the eye of the camera and editor's choices to get in your way. Not as good as live, i'm sure, but perhaps better in its way. Opened my head like a broadax. Enjoy -

along these lines, there is an episode of the old TV show  "omnibus" with Frank Lloyd Wright. He gets in a horse-drawn carriage and putters around NYC - circa 1960 - to chitchat about architecture and design. i saw it years ago but it was interesting enough. on Youtube, I think, now....

gaudi is the bomb.

I've always loved (and am jealous of) guys who treat their designs holistically... from the screw heads up to the urban master-planning. walking through gaudi's buildings and landscapes... just unreal. and the detailing is amazing and consistent with the overall design approach. will have to look for that one where I can find it.

Batman v. Superman is on HBO constantly now.   I think I like it better then when I first saw it.  All the complaints about it are completely justified but I sill enjoy it.  And I still think that Affleck is really perfect for this role.

I implore you to watch Westworld. It's 2016, and we're witnessing a media landscape where television is making a better product than most films. Westworld is a singular achievement. The time-shifting, elusive narrative is brilliant and cryptic. The writing and acting are phenomenal, and Anthony Hopkins might very well be the best actor in the world.

there's a thread for that, guy.

...and if I wasn't so lazy I'd look into that.

I am so out of it, I don't even know what this is or on which channel.  I keep stockpiling TV shows at home b/c I see them on sale when I go to stores, but haven't gotten around to them.  Picked up Fargo S1 and The Americans S1 for $5 each.  Still have The Wire, X-Files, and others as well.

Gonna hafta take one of those free months of Netflix/Prime if only to binge-rewatch this. Never seen an actor have more fun playing a role than BillyBob as Lorne Malvo.

Billy Bob was fantastic. I remember seeing the very first promos for Fargo. I thought, "Why do I need to see this? I already saw the movie?" Little did I know seasons 1 and 2 of Fargo are some of the best entertainment I'd ever watch.

killcoms - since the movies have taken violence completely into a cartoon realm, TV is the true home of malice.

TV appears to be the new home of serious adult drama, as well.

Finally got to see "The Jungle Book" (2016).

Fantastic production.  I thought the kid that played Mowgli was a little below average, and although the violent visuals didn't bother me, they would have if I were a parent watching it with a young'ish child.

I don't typically get startled when watching movies and this movie got me twice.  Both times when Shere Kahn came out of nowhere.

Bill Murray voicing Baloo was really great!

fantastic film   Gaudi was genius.

We watched Miss Meadows the other night.. What a strange "Mary Poppins as a Killer" Movie.. I'll give it a 3 out of 5 just because it was different even if there are MANY  moments.

At one point my daughter said "If she says "Toodoloo" one more time I'm going to strangle her..

Season 1 ended on Sunday. I'm a couple of weeks behind because I usually like to watch each episode a second time but it is must see TV, imo.
Agree. As good as anything currently on. Very tight story telling that demands close attention... and even secord views... Nothing's wasted.

Yeah, similar to Game of Thrones, there are very few throw away lines. Everything means something. I love that.

I've read a lot of tepid reviews about Jungle Book, but I enjoyed it.

my kids are both scaredy-types (9&5)... if one of them can handle the recent Magical Monsters Harry Potter offshoot- do you think he can handle the Jungle Book?

You know it was a movie in 1973 I believe.   Written by Michael Crichton.

Pretty sure everyone knows that? But yes, I knew. Yul Brynner!
