Details schmetails. How did a white guy end up defending China from a monster in 1100 A.D.?
Trump 2020?Details schmetails.
The point is there's a huge wall, lots of fog, and monsters!
woah, woah, woah fellow. Let's keep it within reason here. Trump in 2020? Yea right, like that's possible.Trump 2020?
Damn, had high hopes for this one.jdoggydogg said:xXx: The Return of Xander Cage

Apropos of nothing, I'd go gay for Ruby Rose. She's the only interesting thing about that movie to me.Damn, had high hopes for this one.
I don't know which way I'd have to go but I'm willing.Apropos of nothing, I'd go gay for Ruby Rose. She's the only interesting thing about that movie to me.
I laughed out loud when I saw the commercial for that yesterday. Please tell me none of you are actually going to pay money for The Great Wall.
...which is hilarious, because making the white dude British doesn't make the casting any less weird.Looking at the trailers from this weekend, it would appear that Damon even tries to rock an accent. While I like the guy, he's not really an actor that I would believe with any accent beyond his withered Boston one.How did a white guy end up defending China from a monster in 1100 A.D.?

Even I, an admitted Action flick addict, am staying away... 95% sure it won't even reach my "what the heck nothing else is on TV" list as it looks that bad...Assuming this is sincere, xXx does have some good action and hilarious dialogue. So if you calibrate your expectations, you might be fine.Damn, had high hopes for this one.
I enjoyed both efforts, although admittedly they are total fluff. I wouldn't have watched these if my son wasn't such a fan.Now You See Me 2
I will fully admit that I really like the first one. It was just.... different. I enjoyed it. This one....... the only good scene in the entire movie was when Lex Luthor made it rain upside down. The rest was just a big mess. Too bad too, because the whole magic in the real world thing could be a decent few movies but this one was just bad.
oh wow... forgot I watched some of this. really terrible this one. I enjoyed the first one too.Now You See Me 2

I couldn't get past the CGI card tricks in the first one.oh wow... forgot I watched some of this. really terrible this one. I enjoyed the first one too.
Was really good. Better then I expected.Hidden Figures - Outstanding. What a great story. Even Costner was decent.
Not only these coming up this weekend, but an Altman doubleheader tonite on TCM - The Player @ 9:45 and the mythically-forgotten Nashville @ midniteTCM Picks of the Week
Going with a little lighter fare this week
Sat 5:30 PM: The Quiet Man
John Wayne and John Ford but it's no western. It's a romantic comedy about an ex-boxer retracing his heritage in Ireland. It won John Ford his 4th Oscar for best director and contains some beautiful technicolor cinematography of Ireland.
Sun 6:30 AM: Gold Diggers of 1933
This might not be your style. It's a musical. It's very old. However, it's a quick fun sexy pre-code song and dance show starring William Powell, Joan Blondell, Ginger Rogers and others. There is no shortage of sexy women and sexy clothing.
M wife had it on the other day and it reminded me why I don't watch many movies with her. What a mess that thing was.oh wow... forgot I watched some of this. really terrible this one. I enjoyed the first one too.
i saw this in the theaters and remember liking it. it's humorous despite the subject matter often not being too funny. while it's not a explicit martin mcdonagh film or play, it feels very much like it is. martin's brother sounds a lot like him to me.Calvary
I've had this on the DVR for a year and never watched it. And there were about a half dozen times I thought about deleting it without watching.
This is one of those movies I might need to watch again to understand the purpose of a couple of characters, or get a better understanding of particular trial they were going with. For example I wanted to hear the conversation between the daughter an Chris O'Dowd's character at the end of the movie and we don't get to hear that exchange. Was she there to forgive him? Brendan Gleeson was pretty fantastic.

I really liked Spy. I thought it was funny. And Statham was great.I watched two Melissa McCarthy flicks over the weekend.
Spy / The Boss
I got through 10 minutes of Spy before I had to turn it off. It was unwatchable. Which made me think why bother watching The Boss, but I gave it a shot.
The Boss had some unexpected laughs and was funny throughout. Not laugh out loud funny, but outrageous and stupid funny. I surprised myself by how much I enjoyed it. It might have just been because I like to look at Kristen Bell.
Spy 1/10
The Boss 5/10
The preview for it looked like it might be good. Argh, was kind of looking forward to it.oh right.. watched TheGoodNice Guys the other night on HBO.
man... they just wanted it to be... something... good? really misfired on most counts and tried too hard, while aping a bunch of other movies.
GF and I both really liked itThe preview for it looked like it might be good. Argh, was kind of looking forward to it.
Really liked this one as well. I didn't realize this guy directed The Lobster too.Dogtooth (2009)
Highly recommend.
Original, thought-provoking and sexual. The hat trick.

spectre isn't worth finishing, IMO.Caught "Moonlight" over the weekend. It's a surprising movie in that it wasn't at all what I thought it would be. Really strong acting, writing. I can see why some think it should be Best Picture this year.
Also, started "Spectre" with Daniel Craig's possibly last turn as 007. It's a surprisingly dull movie for the first hour. I'm not sure that I'll finish it.
oh? now you are *that* kind of parent? you know, the one with kids in show business? are you taking them to auditions now?spectre isn't worth finishing, IMO.
looking forward to trying out Moonlight.
fwiw- 9yo floppinho and 5yo floppinha are featured extras in DeNiro's new film The Comedian, which is not very good (in spite of the genius on-screen presence of my kids).
he's going to be the architect of their careers....
nicely done, wikkid. nicely done.he's going to be the architect of their careers....
of course.
It's the most overratted show in recent memory.I know it's just opinions and such, and I don't know why I obsess about it when there are movies/shows that just aren't clicking for me that seem to be damn near universally loved. Feel the need to way overthink it and try to figure out what they are seeing or connecting with that I am not and why that might be. That is happening this week with me and Fargo Season 2. I have watched 8 episodes now, and will finish up the last 2 today. It is still a great looking show with some great characters and acting, but I am not liking it as much as Season 1. I am sure a large part is my dislike of Kirsten Dunst and chubby Matt Damon's characters. I just clench up whenever they are on screen. I will think about it more, and maybe find the Fargo TV show thread and go in there so I am not bogging this down, just was curious what elevated S2 above S1 for people?
