Alien Romulus - 3rd best of the series for me. I enjoyed it. Lot of fan service, but I was ok with it.
I actually have it 4th behind the first 3.

Alien 3 has aged really well once you approach it more as a prison flick set in space. I really enjoy all the prisoners banter etc.

If I had to rank them all including the prequels:

1. Aliens
2. Alien
3. Alien 3
4 Prometheus
5. Alien Romulus
6. Alien Covenant
7. Alien Resurrection
I'm looking forward to watching Romulus again, but Alien3 is 6th for me. I rewatched it recently because it couldn't be as disappointing as I remembered it... but it unfortunately still is.

I agree with IMDB tiering:
Alien/Aliens 8.4ish
Romulus/Prometheus 7.1ish
Alien3/Covenant/Resurrection 6.3ish

I really enjoyed Romulus. I just wish they developed the characters a little more.

I'm a sex, drugs, violence and heavy gore type of guy. 2am last night and I couldn't sleep. Figured I'd put on a movie to fall asleep. I put on The Whale. That damn movie pulled me in until the very end with him on the beach. What a wonderful, Oscar winning performance by Mr. Fraser. Well done buddy.

Dune (Hulu): Second time watching this, what a spectacle. I love it - just stunning visuals all the way through, great actors, neat use of sound… this is a fantastic movie, maybe one of my favorites ever.

I liked the balance of battle vs. story, the battles themselves looked unique, not just another Star Wars clone.

I think I might be a Villeneuve superfan based on this, Arrival, and Blade Runner (and Sicario to a lesser extent). I’ll have to go back and watch his other movies.
I rewatched Dune 2 last night. I watched it when it was in the theater. It just looks and sounds spectacular the whole way through. The story is too complex to turn into movies (main character has 4 different names ffs), but it couldn't be done better than this. I think these are the best looking and sounding movies I've ever seen. There are flaws - the characters are a little wooden, maybe too much of the book was included to be able to focus on the most important parts (an impossible balance)... but I love these movies.

5 seconds of Anya Taylor-Joy was a little funny.

I watched Monkey Man.

Kinda fun and worth the watch. I felt like Patel did a nice job with the story and direction..and I always like his acting chops. He found his little gimmicky shimmery/shake camera trick and used it to death... was cool the first 10 times and then was just like- ok, did you buy it in bulk and felt compelled to use it- like Costco ketchup- or something?

On MAX still?

My daughter and I saw it at the movies. We rewatched it at home with my wife.
I remember thinking something wasn't right and then I read all the complaints about MAX using letterbox which was different than how it was viewed on the big screen

I assume so. It was on Max when I finished it last night, but my subscription ran out so I can’t verify.

Watched Hillbilly Elegy. Thought it was pretty good, with the current position JD Vance holds thought it would be good to learn a little more about him. Good watch if you have some time to kill.

Primer

one of the best time travel movies imo
(y)I won't lie, I went straight to google to help me understand what I just saw. This movie is so effective and is one that you have to watch with sound up as every conversation and utterance, even in hushed background scenes, plays a part in the arc. Not a movie to watch while distracted either. Well made flick for sure.

Yeah agreed, I found a flow chart to help lol.

Clerks 3 (Roku channel): I loved early Kevin Smith movies, but haven't liked much since he became such a stoner. There were some funny bits here, and the ending was kind of neat, but this was mostly rehashing 30 year old jokes. It wasn't a waste of time, and I don't know that I expected better, but it was pretty weak.

Deadpool and Wolverine (Disney+): Strangely similar to Clerks 3 in some ways, including some old nostalgic footage and lots of nods to the past. I'm sure I missed 90% of the deep dive comic book stuff in the background, but Ryan Reynolds is funny to me, and this delivered. I was happy to see some old characters, happy they made fun of some goofy stuff in Marvel/Sony's past, and also happy that I hadn't tapped out on the Marvel shows until after the things this referenced. This was fun.

It's fantastic from start to finish.

Just started it last night, liking it so far. The constant innuendo gets in the way of the story in some spots but if you're watching this movie, you kind of signed up for that.

Thanks to those that recommended Caddo Lake to fans of the show Dark. The trailer didn't do it justice and I probably never would have watched it. Obviously it can't get as deep as Dark was but it was a cool twisty timeline movie that had me pausing a few times to make sure I had things straight. Well done, imo.

Finally watched Deadpool and Wolverine. Rated highly. Most seemed to like it. Was kinda excited to watch. I just couldn't even finish it. Right off the bat, I'm just over the multiverse stories in all formats. Like stop doing these. This movie screamed I'm trying way way to hard to be cool. I like Deadpool but after 10 minutes I was over Deadpool. Waaaaaaay to much standup comedy from him. He was actually funny at times, but just killed it with the over and over and over. Ya. I just personally did not enjoy this movie.

Watched the new Elvis doc on Netflix. Outside of his Christmas CD, he hasn't ever been in my listening playlist. I'm more so interested in Elvis the character and his impact on not only music but his cultural impact. Pretty decent watch. Had no idea the Beatles respected him so much. The Beatles are definitely in my playlist.

Mother! - Wow, what a weird, crazy movie. I liked it a lot although they could have trimmed a bit off of it. Excellent main cast. The first half had a constant unsettling feeling that kind of reminded me of Rosemary's Baby. Just wasn't sure what the hell was going on. The second half gets really crazy and out of control. I'm not one to really analyze too much while watching, preferring to let a movie unfold. It wasn't until it ended that I read up on it and realized I missed the whole religious angle to it. It makes much more sense now. It seems to be a divisive movie but I really liked it.

The kiddo and I watched Home Alone 2 last night. Her pick, and both of our first time watching. We had a blast.
Wait you never saw HA 2 before?
I still haven't seen 1. :bag:
Wait what??? Why didn't you watch that 1st? I wonder if seeing the 2nd will diminish the fun of the 1st but it's a for real classic for a reason.
Yeah, it's like a few others - I've seen scenes and know the movie and what it's about but never sat down to watch it. We tried last year, but some old fart fell asleep about 50mins in. :oldunsure:

The thing I was surprised about was the bit of heart in the movie with the old lady in the park.

There’s so much heart in the first one too!

My Old *** (2024 - new on Prime) is a coming of age comedy with the gimmick being the main character encounters her older self (while tripping on mushrooms). I almost bailed on it early but I'm glad I stuck around because it ended up being quite moving by the end. Aubrey Plaza is the only name star as the old *** but Maisy Stella who plays her as a teenager gives an extraordinary, authentic performance.

I signed up for a druggy teen comedy movie and stayed for the well written family and romantic drama about life choices and love.

Same. I put it on because I wanted to watch something short and mindless before bedtime but it delivered something else entirely.

So I watched this the other night, I may have added it and not remembered what it was about since I really didn't expect that ending. It's kind of interesting but I got a little bored with it, likely since it's 2 hours and change. I found this quote.

The "Federatie Indische Nederlanders (FIN)" or Federation of Dutch Indonesians filed a lawsuit against the movie. FIN claims the movie is a fictional and overly evil depiction of the Dutch intervention in Indonesia, which was meant to put an end to waves of terror coming from local militia. Dutch veteran organizations were also dismayed by the depiction of Dutch soldiers spouting racial slurs and frequenting prostitutes, Special Forces wearing black "Nazi-like" uniforms (dark green in reality), and Raymond Westerling (Marwan Kenzari) sporting a "Hitleresque" mustache. The FIN asked for a disclaimer at the start of the movie, stating the film is fictional. The producer of the movie did not agree with adding such a statement (apart from the standard disclaimer at the end that parts of the story had been fictionalized for dramatic purposes), and the Dutch court finally decided an additional disclaimer was not necessary. Director Jim Taihuttu defended himself against the allegations, stating that the behavior and language of the soldiers was based on diaries given to him by an actual soldier in the war. He had also showed the movie to several Dutch veterans and army leaders, who all praised the film for its authenticity.

You had me at Aubrey Plaza. Bumped it to the top of the queue.
