Reggie Wayne takes lateral and runs down to the 1 (1 Viewer)

As you've probably seen in yesterdays Indy-Minn game Anthony Gonzalez lateraled to Reggie Wayne at the Vikings 18 and Wayne took the play down to the 1. CBS Sportsline ignored the lateral and gave Reggie 17 yards receiving on the play (with Manning getting the additional 17 yards passing in his stats as well). Obviously Reggie did not catch a pass on this play, nor did Manning throw him the ball. I'm curious how other leagues are handling the scoring of this play.

I guess it's just a continuation of the original pass. It can't be a running play. If he would have scored, peyton would have been credited with a td pass and wayne a td rec. That's my guess.

That is how those plays are scored. I am sure all leagues follow the yards as awarded by the NFL for those plays.

This is old news, and was scored exactly how it's always scored.

Only ONE person can get credited with a catch...but anyone running with it after a lateral gets credit for receiving yards since it was a pass play.

It works the same way after rushing yards, even after fumble recoveries....you can actually have 5 yard fumble return and a TD WITHOUT getting a fumble recovery, if the person who really recovered it laterals to you.

Standard scoring here...nothing new.

the scoring is correct , I just dont agree with the NFL on how they handle the play.

Feel it should be a catch ... and the yards, then after the lateral the player receiving the lateral should be credited rushing yards... and a rushing td if need be.

The QB should NOT get a passing td...it's almost like he is the second player in a hockey assist.

Yeah that's why I brought it up. Back in the day (early 90's) we wouldn't have counted the lateral to Wayne as passing yards for Manning or reception yards for Wayne. It was considered similar to as if Gonzalez had fumbled on the 18 and Wayne then picked it up and ran with it to the 1. That said, I have no problem with Wayne getting the yards whether we call them rushing or receiving. I am on the fence for giving Manning the extra yards passing and I certainly would have had an issue with giving Manning a passing TD if Wayne had scored on the play.

Then you may as well argue the same thing about passes caught behind the line of scrimmage.
