Please try and keep politics out of this!!

I just want to hear the good and the bad for those who are affected by the ACA.

The company I work for has a little over 40 people and informed us a few months ago that because of the cost factor(much higher) they will no longer be providing insurance for it's employees on Jan 1st,2014.

On Healthcare.gov attempting to explore my options with the ACA. I need to create an account to get started. The usual stuff, username and password along with security questions. Unfortunately when you click on the security questions no options are available.I'm now on hold with live chat and have been so for the last 2 hours.

No panic here.

Just exploring my options to see how much it will cost me and if I qualify for relief.

If you voted for Obama press one.
All others press two.

Without getting myself in trouble, I work for the company that built the Federal Exchanges. Like any major system that comes online, day 1 is going to be a bit of a mess.

Looking forward to doing this, also, but mine doesn't seem to have loaded the plans yet. Home page says Come Visit Us October 1st. I have previously run the calculator and do not qualify for subsidy.ETA - Like Foosball said, this is a huge system to implement so some initial delays and glitches are pretty much inevitable. My state, btw, is running its own vs being run by Federal gov't.

I was just hoping to get into the system so I can price the plans but so far I can't even get a username and password yet to even get in.

To be expected I guess this early and I have plenty of time to make my choice.

My plans are loaded now. Need to spend some time on what they include to figure out if there is savings. My current provider (Anthem) has plans on the exchange. I don't really understand the difference between plans being on/off exchange.

ETA- I have not registered, but can still see plans. Just had to put in county, age, income.

Off exchange plans are not certified by CMS and you won't be eligible for any subsidies if you sign up for one. They are required to meet all EHB (Essential Health Benefits) for your State.

Thx. I am not subsidy-eligible. Don't all plans now have to meet EHB even if not on exchange?

I don't have time now to look at and compare plan details, but just eyeballing it, it seems like premium savings are offset by higher deductibles. So savings would depend on what goes against the deductible, i.e how much out-of-pocket would increase. My current deductible is for hospitalization (which includes diagnostic stuff like biopsy, colonoscopy, etc) Office visits and tests, incl. MRI, would be included or only cost a co-pay.

There are a few exceptions with grandfathered plans, but in general yes plans must meet the new healthcare requirements as laid out in the ACA.

Sorry...I didn't see this thread earlier and started another with my experiences. Can't get logged in now. Not surprised at all.

The renewal function is currently unavailable. We are working to correct this and hope to have it available soon.

Same thing happened to me when I tried to get into GTA Online this morning. I wish these computer nerds would get their #### together.

It's not just the gov't, their Blue Cross cronies don'[t have the stuff together either.

The site is overwhelmed. They have been getting way more traffic than they expected. I personally would wait a day or two really. The site worked well when I looked it over last week.

Does anyone know if you can buy these plans via broker? Wondering if I can get an objective comparison of on vs off exchange plan fro the guy who sold me mine. Also, for anyone doing comparisons, we really need to know what our current plan rates will be for apples-to-apples comparison. I am sure most of us expect increases. :kicksrock:

Yes, both on and off exchange.

We couldn't register a couple weeks ago. The things that were working last week are working fine today. It's mind boggling to me how they underestimated this site's traffic. I genuinely wonder if they put any thought into that at all actually.

Thanks. That will be really helpful. (Also for the brokers who could otherwise lose business!)

I am soooo glad my wife's employer was ahead of the game and offered plans for this year that were compliant. She pays $515 per month for Premium PPO Family plan, with separate vision and dental.

Deductibles: In Network- $2,100; Out of Network - $4,200

Co-Insurance: Plan pays after deductible

In Network / Out of Network: 90% / 45%

Office Visit $20 co-pay
Specialist Visit $30 co-pay
Urgent Care $50 co-pay
Emergency Room $300 co-pay

Mail Order Rx: 90 day supply
Generic $5
Formulary 20% ($40 min/$80 max)
Non-formulary 30% ($80 min/$160 max)
Company also offered a basic and budget plan.

I started my job in may and my contract is for boss to pay 100% of mine and 50% of family and children. I don't make as much money as I like but after 5 years of paying for my own insurance, this is a blessing. It's excellent coverage (I'm going to pay $1k total for all the stuff associated with my daughter arriving in February) and it's one less thing for me to worry with.

Yes, you can and you should buy via broker. They are here to help.

GTA Online is also having problems on its initial launch day.
Health care is a government mandate. GTA Online is not.
Open enrollment doesn't end until March of next year. Pretty sure they have a little time to get this sorted out.
But if you are uninsured now, and you don't sign up (aren't able to sign up) till after December 15, you can not obtain a 1/1/14 effective date. If you go without coverage for any part of 2014, you will get a fine, even if only a prorated one. They've got 2.5 months before they start screwing people.

The funnier part is that GTA Online probably got sorted out more quickly than this will.
Gee I would think the funny part is that the all powerful market driven private sector company is having the same issues as the allegedly incompetent public sector.

For a video game that they charged you $50 for and had a budget a small fraction of what ACA has to deal with. And they'll probably have it working in a couple of days, because unlike the federal government Rockstar actually needs to concern itself with the product it delivers and its reputation.

This is true but the fine that they are prorating is 95.00 or 1 percent of your income whichever is greater. Given a median income of 51000 that means 510 or less for most people prorated over 12 months that is 42.50 a month . Which is likely still cheaper than buying the insurance. Further my guess is if the system is down that long we will see a change in that plan. They aren't going to penalize people if you can't sign up.
