I think this is really it. They get suckered in by the marketingAnd people of that generation love the word FREE and/or “endless” or “bottomless.” Bread, salad, soup, etc.

But people can meet at any restaurant, no? Why is it the Olive Garden or another mediocre less healthy chain spot? Maybe has to do with older people having less taste buds, maybe they're less adventurous with their choices, maybe they're less concerned with a healthy meal because that isn't as important to them, I don't know.I'd wager that most places with chains also have an amazing local place that I would rather try and find and spend time with friends vs Olive Garden/Outback/Red Lobster etc.
Entirely possible. And that's even better of course. But not at all my point.
For lots of people, especially older people, it strikes me that it's way more about the company than the restaurant.
Also, places like Olive Garden are open at 4:00 when they eat dinner. The cute, local place probably doesn't open until 5.They like the consistency of a chain and you can typically get a large portion for a good price. These places are also typically EASY to find whereas the local chef is likely to be a bit more off the beaten path.
My parents don’t eat at the Olive Garden, but I bet they know exactly where it is. The local bistro or gastropub? Not so much.

noted: will be in scottsdale in augustBecause some of us have fathers who like it?I haven't been to an Olive Garden or Red Lobster in 20+ years. Why do you people go to restaurants that you know you hate?
of course I look forward to getting back home and hitting up the Americano in Scottsdale.
If you’re an old fashioned fan, their’s is phenomenal. They care about mixology in general so anything you order will be good but highlighting this. They bring out in a smoke box that could be gimmicky but it actually helps make it taste more amazing, too.
The braised short rib and bone marrow caramelli is delicious.

I'm a cynic but I'll be surprised when there's a movement that overcomes attractive people dressed attractively serving other people anything as a business concept. My Hooters is closing.
This is a franchise I just can't believe is still around. The food was never any good - passable, but it wasn't the reason folks went - and after the #MeToo movement, I would have thought Hooters et al were on death's door.
The breastaraunt concept will always be a thing. Twin Peaks. Wing House. This particular Hooters though had a terrible layout and the building is pretty old. Tough to watch games there too. It was always pretty dead any time we'd go in there the last 10 years or so.I'm a cynic but I'll be surprised when there's a movement that overcomes attractive people dressed attractively serving other people anything as a business concept. My Hooters is closing.

OF. I’m not joking. Remember when we were kids? How many porn stars were there? Go onto Twitter and how many are there? If you are going to get ogled by men, making more money and being safe seems like a better choice. I’m not saying Hooters women are now sex workers just that there’s a lot more money for the truly hot ones and what is the point of Hooters if you are getting the leftovers? You still have the old guys going but the food as you said is not good.I'm a cynic but I'll be surprised when there's a movement that overcomes attractive people dressed attractively serving other people anything as a business concept. My Hooters is closing.

Why do you think Hooters has been closing restaurants? They have gone from 333 locations in 2018 to 293 at the end of 2023 and continue to close this year. What do you think is the reason?

Had a buddy who lived in Fort Meyers for a bit. My wife and I visited him for a week pre-kids and he took us there for his work event and most of his co-workers brought there families. It was odd. I did take my 3 boys and wife to one near Orlando. The boys were elementary school and maybe middle school for the oldest and they wanted to go there. My wife didn’t care and my boys loved it. Both times were 10-20+ years ago when Hooters was still in its glory. Still kid my youngest who got all mad leaving because his oldest brother got a couple kisses. He was almost 6 and I told him he just had to walk back in and ask because he was adorable at that age. Nope, stubborn and now he’d have to work much harder for it!OF. I’m not joking. Always thought it was weird seeing full families in there with the moms. My ex-wife and current wife wouldn't step in the parking lot of a Hooters. My mom would have gone in there to pray for them.

I see. So you'd have no objections if your wife said "We're going out to eat at 'Bulge'" - just a restaurant where the all-male waiters wear Speedos and belly shirts and serve bad food and crap beer.....no objections at all from you?
Not sure about the correlation, I mean a pleasant experience w/ an attractive woman with nice Gazongas is different than porn. But I'll concede there's maybe less interest these days if the food is subpar. I think nowadays the food has to decent and then the attractive female gives the place a boost. Not sure how many people are familiar with Earls, think started in Canada and now some places on the East Coast but that's an example of a business that has a good atmosphere and good food where having attractive women helps take it up a notch. Not really a novel concept just using that to make the point.OF. I’m not joking. Remember when we were kids? How many porn stars were there? Go onto Twitter and how many are there? Also, COVID hit Hooters especially hard. I remember stopping with my youngest after a tournament just because and it was takeout only and the workers were 300+ but not in the outfits thankfully. We left as quick as we got there.

I remember a story a couple years back where a female boy scout leader got in trouble for taking her entire troop into a Hooters for lunch. I didn't even know there were female boy scout leaders.Always thought it was weird seeing full families in there with the moms. My ex-wife and current wife wouldn't step in the parking lot of a Hooters. My mom would have gone in there to pray for them.
The breastaraunt concept will always be a thing. Twin Peaks. Wing House. This particular Hooters though had a terrible layout and the building is pretty old. Tough to watch games there too. Yep. The only reason Hooters may be suffering is because other breastaraunts are doing it better. The Twin Peaks by me is always packed, quality bar food and actually pretty good to watch sports.

I'll admit to there being a double standard. Men and Women are different. I doubt the concept of "Bulge" would do well.

Anybody else take their wives to Hooters on the reg?

Huge upgrade. I prefer watching sports at home but you really can't beat Twin Peaks. Check all the boxes for me (good food/drink + hundreds of screens with different games) and then you have friendly women serving you who are easy on the eyes. Works for me

The craft beer scene out in Oregon is like a daily death toll being reported during a plague. Seems like every week another 'up and comer' is closing it up for good. Not sure why that is other than over saturation and costs to operate forcing their hand.
easy there tiger. some of us were drinking great sours before the world knew what they were. The craft beer scene was due for a bit of a market check. Craft beer peaked a few years ago when all the 20-something hipsters with their badly fitting fedoras thought they were winos, slurping their sour beers out of wine glasses. Once that fad ended, you knew this was coming. It's a shame because there were some genuinely good beers made by these breweries.
Brewery X in Anaheim $ 9 - $11On the Craft Beer angle, I do wonder where the ceiling is.
The local breweries here in Knoxville average $7 or $8 a beer a pint.
A regular cocktail in regular bars are in the $12-15 range. I wonder if beers will eventually get there?

The craft beer scene out in Oregon is like a daily death toll being reported during a plague. Seems like every week another 'up and comer' is closing it up for good. Not sure why that is other than over saturation and costs to operate forcing their hand.
Brewery X in Anaheim $ 9 - $11On the Craft Beer angle, I do wonder where the ceiling is.
The local breweries here in Knoxville average $7 or $8 a beer a pint.

Yeah, that was one of them. Thought of you on Saturday as we were in Tillamook - was going to give de Garde a test drive, but 1) the Tillamook Parade was going on and the congestion was awful, so we punted and 2) I just can't get into sours, man. I've tried and tried and tried and it just hits me wrong.

On ceiling, the canned beer at my grocery store is interesting too.
Some of the local breweries are there and a 4 pack of pints is $18.
That's getting up there.
Still better than the brewery where 4 points would be $28. But feels like a lot for a 4 pack of cans.

There will be niche beers that are expensive. But basic beer will always be cheaper than cocktails. One factor is the liquor license. beer and wine is cheaper and easier to obtain than a full liquor license.Brewery X in Anaheim $ 9 - $11On the Craft Beer angle, I do wonder where the ceiling is.

Yes. I'm sure it varies by city. My question was I wonder if beer catches up to cocktails.
Or, where is the ceiling for beer?
