New Creed movie comes out tomorrow. I’ll be there, I’m a sucker for these flicks. Here’s how I rank them:

1. Rocky
2. Rocky IV
3. Rocky III
4. Rocky Balboa
5. Rocky II
6. Creed II
7. Creed
8. Rocky V

But generally I liked them all except for Rocky V.

I pity the fool who would put Rocky III behind Rocky IV. Rocky IV had some feel goodness to it given the political backdrop against which it was released, but it was a little over the top cheesy IMO.

It’s the cheesiness that makes it so great. My favorite scene: Apollo lies dead and Rocky looks up and Drago glares down at him, a sneer on his face. So awesome!

I’ve told this story before but when I was a teen I went to a party with my Dad at his friend’s to watch Mike Tyson - Leon Spinks fight. Two adults in the kitchen were discussing The Princess Bride and one says “It was a cute movie but it was no Rocky III” - as if that’s the movie to judge all others by.

Also, my dad and his friend are Italian. These guys were as well.

Nah. The best is Paulie telling Rocko if he could be anybody else, he'd want to Rocky and gives him a smooch on the cheek ("Ahh, Paulie not an *** after all"). Then takes it back when Drago puts Rocky on the mat in the first round

Creed III is getting good reviews. They say the fight scenes are good and the training montage is a throwback to the 80s. But apparently Rocky isn’t in it. Not sure how I feel about that.

I'm no movie buff, but as films - in other words, appreciating the art itself - I'd rank them:

If I'm drunk and just want enjoyment, I'd have them:

I think the two Creed movies have a higher art--and-enjoyment rate per flick than the Rocky movies do. They're just better-made and are still fun, though Creed II gets a little bogged down same as Rocky II, though.

I love Rocky IV but I'll take anything from 1985 over just about anything else. Rocky IV also had the best montages.
I had a link to Hearts on Fire in my recurring Outlook appointment for going to the gym so I could click it if I didn't feel like going.

Some channel was running a Rocky marathon and I had IV on in the living room (again). My 7 year old is passing through and sees Ivan Drago and without missing a beat or slowing down while walking through the room yells out, "The Russian's cut! The Russian's cut!"

Incidentally, same kid a year or so earlier noticed Chevy Chase while I had Christmas Vacation on the TV during a holiday party and got excited and yelled in front of everyone, "Dad, it's one of the Three Amigos!"... 1985 baby! (Ok, 1986 release date)

Quite frankly III and IV are a virtual tie for me. Nothing will ever be better than the original. Rocky Balboa is criminally underrated.

Now when I watch Rocky V I laugh at the cringe…and play along.

The Creed movies have been great. Looking forward to part III but no Rocky kinda sucks. I wonder how that will be explained away.

I can't rank the Creeds because I don't recall seeing One and definitely didn't see 2. If I remember correctly I'd put creed probably after Balboa.

I saw the first one. It was....okay. I thought the fighting scenes looked like something from a video game. Completely lost me. No interest in watching any other Creeds after that.

Introducing this series to my kids now. Going with II-III-IV in order. Original is amazing but too slow for kids to hang (you know how these modern kids are with their YouTube and fentanyl).

I remember not paying attention to boxing in my youth until I watched a few Rocky movies. Afterwards, once I watched my first legit heavyweight boxing match, I was disappointed that the boxers were actually guarding their faces. I mean, in Rocky movies, both guys just pummel each other with clean shots to the head (over and over again) and are still able to go the distance. I wasn't sure why real-life boxers were so wimpy as to protect their head.

I haven't seen everyone (almost) but I thik that is a pretty good ranking. I would have Creed higher but well done.

Yeah, Philly sports using Rocky like they do does take away a bit from the franchise...

Side note: for those that are fans of the franchise, it's worth the 93 minutes of your time to check out Rocky IV - The Director's Cut. No robot, more Apollo story, more Drago. Less MTV music video and more movie. It's a better overall movie than the original version, but much like @Uruk-Hai separation rankings, if I'm drunk and wanting to be entertained, give me the original with robots, warts and all.

At the end of Rocky, Adrian and Rocky embrace in the ring with the great music playing and the crowd cheering and her "I love you" and his "I love you, too" provides an emotional wallop.
In Rocky II, she says "I love you" to the TV. That's a big reason that it's easily the worst of 1-4.
