Hmm, this is one of those things that seem like a lifetime ago to me.
Are you 20?Hmm, this is one of those things that seem like a lifetime ago to me.
Yeah. Aside from the Reginald Denny footage (which I don't even think I can watch now) the one image that I'll always remember is the business owners in Koreatown arming themselves and actually taking shots at looters. At the time I just kept thinking "is this where we are as a society now?" Link20 years - wow. That was some scary stuff watching L.A. turn into a war zone.
I was a senior in high school. Being married for ten years, with three kids, high school seems like a LONG time ago.Are you 20?Hmm, this is one of those things that seem like a lifetime ago to me.
Yeah I see what you mean.I was a senior in high school. Being married for ten years, with three kids, high school seems like a LONG time ago.Are you 20?Hmm, this is one of those things that seem like a lifetime ago to me.
Changed forever? Really? This couldn't happen again tomorrow? The beating of Rodney King 20 years ago Thursday marked the end of a 100-mph car chase and the beginning of a chain of events that would forever change Los Angeles, its police department and the racial conversation in the United States.
They suspected it was PCP. And after getting hit with a taser TWICE and still getting up, that was a decent suspicion.BUT HE WAS ON COCAINE!!!!!111![]()
It could happen again, but it's far more unlikely. A lot has changed with the LAPD since then.I love sentences like this in news stories:

Thanks, Tacitus.Today's date is actually not that significant, because this didn't become a big story until the video began to circulate on local news broadcasts a few nights later.
The significant date in the Rodney King affair is April 29, 1992. That is is the day the officers were acquitted of the beating. The riots began that night on Florence and Normandy. I was at a Dodger game, and got caught in the middle of the riots on my way home.
I consider myself an expert on this incident, having listened to Dre's album a couple of times in college.
Damn!So spill. Car get beat on? People lobbing bricks at you? What happened?Today's date is actually not that significant, because this didn't become a big story until the video began to circulate on local news broadcasts a few nights later. The significant date in the Rodney King affair is April 29, 1992. Must have been the 7th inning when all the diehard fans were exiting the Stadium.I was at a Dodger game, and got caught in the middle of the riots on my way home.
Tim escaped harm by telling the surrounding rioters "I'm just like you! I'm Jewish! We're all minorities! ATTICA! ATTICA! ATTICA!"Damn! So spill. Car get beat on? This really cries out for a Fictitious Things timschochet Did During the LA Riots spinoff thread. My vote goes for "Looted a television from a local electronics store as a way of sticking it to the white man."Tim escaped harm by telling the surrounding rioters "I'm just like you! I'm Jewish! What did professor Woz have to say about it?I recently watched the Rodney King video in my Introduction to Criminal Justice Class last semester, and it was the first time I had seen the video. That video is pretty gruesome and as a police officer to be I cannot imagine partaking in something like that. Although, I will admit the culture has changed a bit it is pretty staggering that this event happened.

Very touching story.I was 8 at the time. For the next next few years or so anytime somebody was getting beat up(either jokingly or for real), jumped, there was a wrestling match of some kind, or really any type of horsing around that kids would do, we'd all scream Rodney King!, Rodney King! Ya I grew up in a white neighborhood.
Yeah, I was pretty shocked to learn he wasn't laddering T-bills.Wow Rodney King got over 3 million dollars for the beating and has proceeded to burn through all the money, according to the article I read today.

Why am I laughing at this? They should trot him out and give him another beating for old time's sake.
I think you're kidding yourself. It could happen again, but it's far more unlikely. A lot has changed with the LAPD since then.I love sentences like this in news stories:

I did that and saw "Crash" a few times.I consider myself an expert on this incident, having listened to Dre's album a couple of times in college.
What's odd is I showed this in my criminal justice class last semester. What did professor Woz have to say about it?I recently watched the Rodney King video in my Introduction to Criminal Justice Class last semester, and it was the first time I had seen the video. The supporters of the officers stated Rodney was hopped up on drugs. Particularly coke and PCP. A blood result later revealed he only had the metabolite of marijuana in his system. Officers also cite to a 100 mph chase which, IIRC, the female officer later recanted. Several texts state as a fact King never got anywhere near 100 mph and it's questionable whether he even fled from police. What are you guys talking about? They suspected it was PCP. Come on Woz. According to King’s own statements, he refused to pull the car over because a DUI would violate his parole for a previous robbery conviction.Officers also cite to a 100 mph chase which, IIRC, the female officer later recanted. True, but regardless it does not mean he traveled 100 mph.Come on Woz. I thought we already did a "how fast have you driven" thread.Pretty sure the OP has a link. The link has a story. The story includes a video of a recent King interview. The interview includes this direct quote from Rodney King:"I was doing every bit of 100 m.p.h."
Then again dude was driving a Hyundai so...Pretty sure the OP has a link. The link has a story. The story includes a video of a recent King interview. The interview includes this direct quote from Rodney King:"I was doing every bit of 100 m.p.h."
I heard Colin Firth was awesome as Rodney King.At least his movie won a Golden Globe. Too bad he isn't around to see that his dream is coming true.
I can't wait until it comes out on laser disc. I heard there was a dragon involved and I'm not sure why. I guess it's a Hollywood thing.I heard Colin Firth was awesome as Rodney King.At least his movie won a Golden Globe. Too bad he isn't around to see that his dream is coming true.
