Roy Williams, Roy Williams (1 Viewer)

Where has Roy gone to? Is he still delivering Pizzas? Did he forget they had a game on Sunday? I haven't had a chance to watch the last two Lions games, but I have noticed Williams has done nothing in the last couple weeks. Can some Lions homers tell me whats going on? Is he not getting targeted or is he just not catching balls?

the run game was working, the lions were winning most of the game. Wasnt a pressing need to throw this week

Both week 5 and 7 he had 3 receptions and less then 40 yards and no TD's. Week 5 he had 36 yards and this week he had 23.

since when has Mike Martz ever been a run first type of coach. He wasn't with Faulk, but he is with the Kevin Jones and Tatum Bell tandem? I have noticed that Kitna's numbers have been lacking over the last while. I havent been able to watch the Lions play as there games are never on sopcast. Any homers know what the deal is?

I would like to know the answer to this as well. I'm guessing there's a few different things that are creating this problem. O-Line is bad Kitna not getting enough time to throw to Roy and getting sacked before Roy can finish route. Kitna is spreading the ball too much. Calvin and McDonald are getting in on the act more than I would like them to. Finally now that Kevin Jones is back more running the ball and all the dumpoffs are going to him. I'm a little worried there won't be very many more big games from Roy.

Tampa dominated the time of possession but turned the ball over (missed FG, Blocked punt, 2 fumbles), so didn't dominate the game as much as the TOP showed. Detroit was able to run the clock down in the fourth quarter and make the TOP look a little better, and thus hold off Tampa. Tampa could have easily won this game if they would have been able to convert on a few more of their drives. The Lions basically did what they needed to do to win the game. They ran the ball well and ate up the clock. Kitna was 16 of 20 in the game....but the Lions relied on Kevin Jones more than any other player. Calvin Johnson had an unbelievable run on a reverse in the 4th quarter that basically sealed the game. If he doesn't get in the end zone and Kitna throws a TD to Roy instead, we wouldn't be having this discussion. They didn't need to pass the ball and won with their running game (unbelievable I know). Lions teams in the past would have never won this game.

I think things are looking up for the Lions although most people think their offensive production is in a decline for good. The running game is only going to open up things for Kitna and the receivers....and the most important is that the lions defense won't hold many teams down, forcing the Lions to pass. I look forward to the play action pass actually working for the Lions sometime soon.

PS

The Lions don't play very well on the road.

They have plaed two cover-2 defenses the last two weeks, who game plan against the pass. The Lions ran the ball well this week with only 7 men in the box. There haven't been many teams that have been able to pass against the Skins or Tampa D.

I know Martz's offense is pass happy, but he game plans for opponents, and the cover-2 is begging for the run, screen pass, etc and not much downfield.

They will be fine and Roy will get his.

true story, the balance KJ can bring to this offense is giving Roy and the rest of the WR's a smaller pie to work with, he will still have a break out game here and there, dude is still just as tough to tackle in the open field, but start expecting much more inconsistency, if he doesn't break one lose for a TD then expect a bunch of a 4/60 gamesjust dumped him in my dynasty league for BMarsh and a 1st rounder...

Does the decline in number coincide with Calvin Johnson going down ?

with Mike Furrey out of the slot and shaun mc Donald in at a 2 TE set doesnt that lead to more touchs (catches or runs) for KJ

didnt Pollard get some looks this last week? as Calvin works his way back into the lineup look for them to go back to the 3 wr set and more passing yards

just a thought

TB had the ball for most of the game.

I heard Roy last night on the radio say "When we pass we have four very good WRs, so if could be a different guy every week who has a big game."

It was a combination of TB having a large time of possession advantage and the fact that TB runs the cover two which is designed to allow the short passes and eliminate/lessen the long passes. Short route receivers are McDonald, Furrey, and KJ.

I am trying to deal for Roy Williams right now. Like others have stated I think Roy's and all the WRs recent inactivity has more to do with the defenses they are playing and how the game unfolds. The Lions had many of the same weapons last year (besides CJ and McDonald) and Williams still had great numbers. I'd be suprised if the Lions ever get to the point this year where KJ is regularly getting 25-30 touches per game, they will take it easy on that foot I think.

I saw Roy Williams rolling up on the back legs of a WR as he horse-collerd him to the ground.

... oh, wait.... wrong Roy Williams.

Well, for starters, one is Mike Martz the HC, and the other is Mike Martz the OC, who has to answer to Rod Marinelli the HC.
