I know there is another thread on this but given the importance I thought it deserved its own. Mods, feel free to merge if you disagree.

From RotoWorld:

Rudi Johnson (hamstring) has been ruled out for Monday night's game.

Kenny Watson is likely to get the start against New England, with DeDe Dorsey spelling him for some carries. The matchup is extremely tough, but Watson makes for a decent PPR flex because he's a strong bet to catch a lot of passes. The Bengals may just air it out against the Patriots instead of testing their elite front seven. It's uncertain how long Rudi will be out for.

Bengals RB Johnson Ruled Out Vs. Patriots

Mark Curnutte, Cincinnati Enquirer - [Full Article]

The Cincinnati Bengals have ruled RB Rudi Johnson out for the Monday night game against the Patriots. Johnson, who has played in 64 consecutive games, will not play, barring a "significant, unexpected recovery," to his injured hamstring. Johnson was one of four players listed as out, along with LB Rashad Jeanty, S Ethan Kilmer and WR Tab Perry.

OK so for the next 2 weeks he gets a chance to heal. W/O further explaination about the extent of Rudi's injury, grabbing Watson is possibly wasted move, or is it?.......................................

Assuming this is true, what are everyone's expectations for Watson this week?

He probably isn't someone you'd normally like to start, but with bye weeks starting up I'm sure some people could use him.

When a guy has started 64 straight games, there is really no sample size on how he recovers from injuries/missed games. How anyone could have a concrete view on this, I don't know. We know two things.....1. He has played through pain before2. He will have two weeks off (in essence almost 3)I would fully expect him to return in week five.

I would be SHOCKED if he did. :own3d:

When a team rules a player "OUT" he is just that, "OUT". If you are holding onto hope that he plays, I would let it go right now.In deeper leagues he might be playable for this one week, but Rudi himself was not a great play against NE. Watson is more of a pass catcher, so in PPR leagues he might hold good value for this one week.

Look at it this way..Rudi out max 2 weeks..grab Watson now to run against the Pats and a week 5 bye and Rudi is back week 6...THINK!67 User(s) are reading this topic (24 Guests and 0 Anonymous Users)43 Members: Chuck Norris, einstein2u, Tin Cup, moderated, Texican, andy_b, Green Apple Splatter, Arc, gferrell20, Leo2228, Sammy B, Stillers Jr., Phurfur, dagwood, scothawk, nxmehta, chitlins3, beaglemac, DanFouts, Scooby, Fuente Opus X, steaker, Hit-em, butcher boy, flooredyas, PantherPower, Srh13, Verbal Kint, yaycarol, loonzilla, NFZ, tonystrong, haxx, ACE, drdgreenlove, DevilintheDetail, LaneOfSteel™, Chreesto, Stripe, Lord of Football, Snot Bubbler, ronron2, Heaton

lol

Or grab a two week filler like Morris :lmao:

Actually I was really wanting Rudi out for the PATs game. He was damaged goods going in against a tough tough defense. It allowed me to IR him, freeing up a spot start for 2 weeks without having to rely on kev Jones this early.

Best news today, weird as that sounds...

I like Watson's chances in a shootout...he's a former WR who will be used out of the backfield more than Rudi, IMO. He's also got a little more burst, so he's a decent fill in this week.

I'd say

75 rushing

60 rec

1 rec td

some RB's have had success against NE in the past:2002LT 27-217-22003 Portis, week 9 - 26-111-1 Edge week 13, 25-88, 50 rec yards2004Edge 30-142, 29 rec yards2005Edge 34-104, 9 rec yards -1 tdLJ 35-119-12006LT 25-134-2Trav. Henry 21-102Cincy got blown out by NE last season, and they're a 7.5 pt home dog on monday night. :lmao:I have a feeling that Watson is going to run for about 110 and a TD..seems part of NE's gameplan is to let opposing teams run the ball ( it helps take time off the clock), but don't give up the big play over the top, to guys like Marvin or Reggie Wayne, or CJ and TJ Housmandzadeh(sp?)..I could be wrong, but that's my perception..they might not be able to focus on the running game as much, because Palmer and Co. are playing at a very high level right now ( its Cincy's defense that's killing the Bengals).

I'm trying to decide between starting Watson or Sammy Morris. It's a tough call. If the Bengals can keep the game close, Watson is probably the better start. But in a blowout, you know Morris is going to vulture a TD or two...

Any thoughts?

I agree that Watson will get his fair share of yards. I think he has a higher upside this week than Sammy Morris. As for me, I'm stuck starting Ron Dayne (missed out on Watson due to low waiver priority), but this might just be the week that Dayne posts good numbers. We'll see.

I went with Dayne over Watson. I don't see a lot of upside for Watson. I don't think he's anything special as a runner so I think he tops out around 50 yards. In a PPR league he should have decent value as he should catch 3-4 passes for maybe another 30. I wouldn't bank on a TD so you're looking at around 80 total yards. I think Dayne has a good shot at 85+ yards and a TD or two. The Falcons' run defense is pretty poor. I'd rather start Morris ahead of Watson as well in standard scoring leagues (PPR leagues I'd give the edge to Watson). I think Morris is a good bet to score again and get 45-55 yards rushing with maybe a reception or two.

As a Rudi owner I am thrilled they aren't pushing him. Best thing for the hammy is rest and therapy...not trying to test it every day in practice and on game day.

I think it works out well for Rudi owners as long as you have a decent #3 or flex cause Rudi wasn't gonna do much against that D anyway even though everyone would start him anyway.

Do we have any idea on the extent of Rudi's injury?
As of now there's nothing to suggest that he won't be back for week 6. As a Rudi owner, I'm glad that the bye comes week 5 to give him more time to rest up. But who knows really. As far as I know they haven't done an MRI or anything. Rudi said on Monday that he was going to play this weekend. Obviously he's not going to, but the fact that he said that leads me to believe that the injury isn't too serious.

I'm in the same predicament, with Watson, Sammy Morris. I think you have to go with Sammy though because of how consistent he has been this year and Maroneys Questionable this week with a groin. CJ and TJ will be thrown to plenty if they want to beat the PatsAs a first time Rudi owner, Question: Has Rudi had any hamstring problems before? Seems like a freak thing to me

I grabbed Watson, more to keep him away from the Rudi owner than for my own needs. That being said, the Bengals have struggled thus far. If they click on offense this week and it is attributed to Watson being effective out of the backfield, then I think you have to expect him to continue to see time. Hamstrings injuries tend to linger, so this could be an issue for a few weeks with Rudi. I know I am being way too optomistic about this guy, but there is the likelihood that Watson earns some respect and chips in for 8-10 carries and a handful of catches each week after Rudi returns.

 The reason for the Bengals struggles has nothing to do with the offense. The offense has been clicking very well, it's the defense that is killing them.

you're right. They have been great on offense. But that has not necessarily been because of Rudi, but rather in spite of Rudi.

If you asked Marvin Lewis, he'd tell you that the offense HAS struggled...not with moving the ball, but with turnovers. It killed them last week against the Seahawks and hurt them in Cleveland too.

Believe it or not, this is the best news for Rudi Johnson owners, given the hamstring injury. (I was really hoping he would sit) WHY?

Rudi now has 3 weeks to rest the hamstring, with the Bye next week, plus did you really want to start Rudi vs. New England.

Advice: Go get Ron Dayne, against a terrible Atlanta Run Defense and be happy that Rudi will be there for you in Week #6 forward.
