Vikings Interested in Lemon

Word out of Miami is that the Vikings are interested in Dolphins soon-to-be free agent quarterback Cleo Lemon. The Dolphins aren’t expected to make any attempt to retain Lemon so he will be free to shop his services. Here is Lemon’s bio from the NFL website. There also have been reports the Vikings might be interested in free agent Trent Green, who spent last season with Miami. Lemon might be a guy the Vikings bring in to compete for the No. 2 job.

Backup quarterbacks Brooks Bollinger and Kelly Holcomb remain under contract but Brad Childress likes to create competition and Lemon could be a good fit in his mind.

Jackson has been hurt some, and his play is not always NFL quality, so this could be an interesting additional, if it happens.

Your title ("Update inside for the non-Jackson fan club members") and comment ("Jackson has been hurt some, and his play is not always NFL quality, so this could be an interesting additional, if it happens") suggest to me that you are misunderstanding Lemon's role if they sign him. It would be to compete for #2, not #1.

You make some good points, however in the NFL your one hit away from being starting QB if your the #2 guy. Also, I think Jackson must improve this year or he could be on the bench. With this being the 3rd year with the new coaching team, weapons like AP, Chester, a decent defense, I think the Vikes have to make the playoffs in 08, or Brad C. maybe gone in 09.I think the Vikings are looking for a bit more then just a #2 guy, maybe someone who can take over if Jackson does not improve.A side note the Vikings are trying to get support for a new football complex, they really want to field a good team to get support for this issue.

The whole reason they want to bring in a guy like Lemon is because he will not be seen as a threat to Jackson. The fans wont be clamoring for Lemon to be put in, and Jackson wont be looking over his shoulder
