The mountain lion was 35-40 pounds. 

Now I’m really sad.

Yep - watched his interview and Q&A - two things stuck out.  He said he knew from playing with his house cat (or someone’s) that he needed to pin its back legs - I would have had no clue and probably been disemboweled.  

Second, was he mentioned he normally has his ear buds in but wasn’t that familiar with the trail so didn’t have them in - the nature guy they interviewed after said that saved his life.  If the lion had snuck up on him and gotten him by the scruff of the neck the dude was almost certainly toast.  Guy is a badass AND one lucky dude.

Yeah it was a young lion. He mentioned he was afraid the mother was going to show up and then he would have had little to no chance.
