Ryan Mathews....no respect?....get on this hype train (1 Viewer)

After watching Spiller yet again this morning. I'd much rather have Mathews if I'm looking for an RB. Spiller is a space player with potential to be a good between the tackles RB. Mathews is a good between the tackles RB with two things Spiller lacks - strong balance/power and good vision between the tackles. Spiller is better in the open field, but I want a back that does a better job of getting past the line of scrimmage. That player is Mathews.
Do you have any examples of Spiller's lack of vision between the tackles?
I would be interested in this as well.

Hi Matt, I am a big fan of Matthews game and see him, like many, as a future Charger at #29. What do you think of Spiller vs. Best head-to-head? I think Best's skills are scary good but his small frame scares me and I can see a Steve Slaton-like future in the cards for Best. It's hard for me to get excited about making a top-6 rookie selection on a back that is destined for a complementary backfield situation. Any thoughts you can share?

I have seen some unbelievable things with Best. He has very little wasted space, is a patient runner(which is rare for a speed RB), he sets up his blockers well, and he sets up moves as well with little wasted motion.

From former Ravens and Browns scout Daniel Jeremiah via his Twitter account just now: buzz keeps building on Fresno St RB Ryan Mathews... He is built for the NFL. His balance as a runner is rare. Made for the NFL

someone plz start some dirt on this kid so he sticks around until #3 for rookie draft... too much praise!!!!

Inside sources say Ryan met with the Chargers today...
Just so you know...many teams interview guys that they likely will not draft. Many times it is simply a smoke screen. I know SD needs a RB, but it still would not surprise me if they wait till the 2nd or maybe even the 3rd round to really identify what they want...also don't put it past them to trade for a RB on draft day. A lot of teams have 2 RBs and would be willing to let someone go.

Is there any room left on this bandwagon? I have Matthews firmly at #1 in my rookie ranking. The things that stick out for me are his power and his balance. He has unusually short and stocky legs, which I view as a huge plus. No wonder he has great balance. Gotta say, I was more than a little surprised Bloom has him behind Dwyer. Unfortunately I think San Diego is a pipe dream unless they trade in front of Houston, but man oh man can you imagine this runner as a Charger....

I don't think the Chargers situation is what it once was.

I'd rather Mathews go to the Texans, if I were in a position to pick him.

This has bugged me for quite some time(Spiller scoring 21 of his career TD's over 50 yards)

9 of these are return(punt or kick) TD's....does this even matter for FF???

Breaking down the others by year:

09-1 run(66 yarder vs Wake), 4 receptions ( 63 yarder @ GT, 66 yarder vs Wake, 56 yarder @ Miami, 58 yarder vs Florida St)

08-1 reception(83 yarder vs Duke)

07-1 run(83 yarder @ Auburn) 1 reception(68 yarder vs Louisiana Monroe)

06-4 runs(80 yarder vs South Carolina, 52 yard run vs NCST, 50 yarder vs GT, 72 yarder vs Wake) 2 receptions(82 yarder vs BC, 50 yarder vs GT)

Color me more unimpressed by 6 career college td runs(the most important thing for a RB) over 50 yards(4 of them freshman year as well).

Pencil the kid in for double digit TDs in 2010. The Bolts love him and he'll get 220+ touches in one of the top 3 offenses in the NFL.

No repect because he's not ranked first by everyone? :X

Some people have him ranked 2nd :toilet: or even 3rd? :X

For Benson leads the way... I have jumped on the Ryan Matthews bandwagon and jumped off CJ Spillers since the draft even though I still like Spiller.

:ptts:

Is this the "look at me, look at me" icon? Never really sure what that icon was for, but that's my best guess.

If that's not what it means, then I'll just give this bump the ole

Signed,

Content, non-attention needy Mathews owner

Matthews missed practice today (Thursday) with a foot injury. This injury couldn't come at a worse time for him considering he was starting to pull away from Tolbert...He will be back in a committee situation before you know it.

That's a little disconcerting. Norv said on Wednesday that he expected Ryan to practice on Thursday. Any homers know anything?

I need a big game this week...I will happily fly out to SD and give him a foot massage if it will help him be ready for Sunday.

I own RM and think it may be time to trade him. I think his value is at his highest. I have had 3 offers this week. People think he is breaking out into a top ten back. I have had him last year to and I believe he is fools gold. Just another Beanie Wells in a better situation. Can' stay healthy, or will do something else silly to get Tolbert more playing time. Heck Norv just said due to RM's ankle, Tolbert will get more carries this week. Somebody please convince me I am wrong. I am ready to pull the trade trigger on him.

Young, size, speed, power, agility, runs with an attitude, has already shown to be successful in the NFL, plays in an offense that puts the ball in the RBs hands a lot.I would need a great offer to move him...

when did norv say that?

Norv said it a couple days ago.Would you do Larry Fitz & ryan fitzpatrick for RM, Cam Newton, & Torrey Smith?
Nice addition of piss in this thread. If mathews stays healthy he is a top 10 back. He is sharing the load with tolbert right now and IS a top back currently. The chargers drafted him to be the franchise RB and Norv is giving him the opportunity to prove it. There are three things holding him back from bieng top 5: tolbert(goal line vulture), health, pass blocking. so far his health has been ok and he is producing, now if only one more of those situations got better...

cool link bro
I can't link the report, but this was what CBS Sports posted on their most recent news for Mathews:

"This certainly suggests that Mathews will be ready for the game against the Dolphins, a defense that has allowed 104.7 rush yards per game. However, coach Norv Turner suggested that Mike Tolbert could see the bulk of the carries due to Mathews' lack of practice time. “We are lucky,” Turner said. “We have (the) two of them. Michael is an awfully good player, so is Ryan. We are going to do what is best in terms of how it fits the Dolphins defense.” Continue to monitor Mathews status heading into Sunday. He can be considered a low-end No. 1 Fantasy RB, if healthy enough to play."

I think I'll sit Mathews for McCoy this week. I like Mathew's matchup better, but who knows what Norv's going to do.

Tolbert is not effective as a running back. His YPC is horrid. He is fine at short yardage and fine catching some passes. My guess - Norv is trying to send a message to RM.
