San Francisco 49ers - link to new 2023 thread in latest post (2 Viewers)

Jim Harbaugh returns to Levi Sunday for 2012 team reunion.

"Harbaugh won’t be the only member of that 2012 team in attendance this week. According to Tim Kawakami. Justin Smith, Patrick Willis, NaVorro Bowman, Vic Fangio and even Aldon Smith will be joining him. But we’ve seen some of those faces after their time ended in San Francisco. Jim Harbaugh returns for the first time after a bitter, bitter divorce."

49ers have won 11 or more games 17 times in franchise history. Harbaugh did it 3 times in 4 years. Here’s the list:

Seifert: 6
Walsh: 3
Harbaugh: 3
Mariucci: 3
Shanahan: 1
Buck Shaw: 1 (in 1948)

I'm kind of surprised Aldon Smith is going to be there (and isn't in jail). He's still only 33. Crazy.

11% of Jimmy Garoppolo’s pass attempts have been dropped this season, the highest % in the NFL for qualifying QBs. 10% of Lance’s throws were also dropped.

Overall, 49ers receivers have dropped 19 of 179 attempts (10.6%), highest percentage in the league. Jets and Browns are tied for 2nd worst at 8.6%.

Pass catch rates for every 49er targeted this season:

Coleman 100% (3 targets)
Wilson 80% (10 targets)
Kittle 76% (25 targets)
Juice 72.7% (11 targets)
Aiyuk 65.8% (38 targets)
Jennings 60% (20 targets)
Deebo 57.4% (47 targets)

Dwelley 50% (4 targets)
Kroft 50% (2 targets)
McCloud 44.4% (9 targets)
Woerner 0% (2 targets)
Gray 0% (4 targets)

Kittle’s lack of usage is just more offensive genius stuff I guess us common ungeniuses don’t understand.

Someone with a weak arm that likes to get it out quick and short should be feeding the TE (especially one as good as Kittle).

6 a game? He should be seeing at least 50% more than that given who the QB is.

Silver lining for 49ers if neither Charvarius Ward nor Jason Verrett plays on Sunday, with Emmanuel Moseley already out: All of their premium edge rushers — Nick Bosa, Samson Ebukam, Charles Omenihu, Drake Jackson — are practicing.

Rush will have to run the show, fuel coverage

-----------

Shanahan said that Verrett is "good to go" for Wednesday's practice, not for Sunday's game. That's a huge and incorrect jump in logic to make. Sunday is still way TBD

------------

I also wouldn't rush to presume that Charvarius Ward is unlikely to play just because he hasn't practiced to maximize rest for groin.

If there's an opponent for which Ward can be prepared without on-field practice time, it's his former team — KC. Three training camps vs Mahomes

Kawakami wrote in the Athletic that the Niners are a leading contender to get McCaffrey. Kawakami carries a lot of water for management so I wouldn’t be surprised if this is well sourced. Seems pretty short sighted to me given his injuries. Then again, overpaying for a RB is definitely in this team’s MO.

He says there is an "increased sense" that SF is the leading contender for CMC, but doesn't list a quote or source or anything to make me think anything will happen. To me his article read like HE thinks they are frontrunner even though there isn't any evidence anywhere.

Or, he could have inside info, who knows.

Prob the last thing we need right now is to kill our cap and give away the game for an injury prone RB, but agree with the catch, seems like a move Jed York would love.

RB is the biggest waste of cap space, imo.

Well, he knew something.

Lombardi:

Christian McCaffrey cost the 49ers a lot of draft capital, but he will cost only about $646,000 of 2022 salary-cap space. Easy for SF to fit him into this year's budget with about $5 million in room

Punting your draft for basically 3 years which is what is happening puts your team on a bad trajectory which will eventually be felt.

I’d also set the over under of games played as a 49er for CMC this year around 6.

Damn, and here i thought jeff wilson would last me a couple more months
Same, almost cut him for Foreman tonight, he might have to play on Sunday vs KC but I wasn't going to use him after last week. Very little value with McCaff showing up
Didn't see that one coming
I just cant pickup foreman either even though hes available in my league. I figure wilson plays his *** off on sunday in a last gasp.

1 more week of use for what its worth.

Very reasonably priced, too. 2, 3, 4, & a 24 4?

And he’s relatively inexpensive. And still just 26.

Wow. Hope Lance is starting next year.

People say this about the Rams all the time. They seem to be doing ok.

Why would he be at any greater risk as a 49er than a Panther?

What do we have next year for the draft?

Shanny is gonna run him into the ground and kill him.

Aren’t we gonna have to pay Bosa a gajillion dollars pretty soon?

Idk about inexpensive, he has a cap hit of almost $20 each of the next 2 years.

I’m not a fan of playing for now. Team would need to be near 100% healthy to make a run at a Super Bowl this year with our bum at QB, so I’m more about playing for the future.

That deal is insanity given (1) Shanahan has proven to be able to get by with cheap RBs (yet continues to throw an a crazy amount of resources at the position anyway for reasons that are not clear), (2) they were already thin on draft capital, and (3) McCaffrey can’t and won’t stay on the field any longer than anyone else in that mash unit of a RB room. You thought he was hurt a lot before, wait until he meets the SF medical team. Yikes.

We have a 3rd and a 5th next draft.

I can see a trade or 2 to recoup some draft capital.

That is a massive overpay and he’s owed like 16M a year going forward and is rarely healthy. Niners got hosed.
Depends how he plays for the next couple of years, I’d say.
Based on recent history we won’t see him on the field enough to know.

SF always gets great production out of their backs. Wtf are they doing this trade is actually bonkers.

It ain’t my money. I’m gonna root for the team - I think CMC gives them another huge weapon, and yes - I do believe they’re going to make a run this year. And next. At least.

Rams are a train wreck, Seattle and AZ aren’t that tough.

I have no issues with this acquisition. Future me might hate it. Time will tell. Gonna be fun to watch.

Lombardi via the Athletic:

Most of McCaffrey’s 2022 contract was already paid out by the Panthers. He is owed a little more than $1 million this season by his new team, but his base salary rises to about $12 million each year from 2023-25 — though none of that money is guaranteed.

McCaffrey cost the 49ers a lot of draft capital, but he will cost only about $646,000 of 2022 salary-cap space. That’s an easy fit into the 49ers’ 2022 budget, as they have about $5 million cap space.

Thank you - that’s what I thought I’d read - people talking about $20M, cmon.

Some picks and $700K

Great trade. I can’t wait to see how they use him. CMC owners should be elated.
