Been a stressful 2-0, but both these games seem like ones the 49ers would have lost last year. Blew so many leads in the 4th quarter last year. Offense is not overly exciting, but the defense is a fun group to watch, guys are flying all over the place.

I like Stout and Winters. Pearsall looked very good, and Mac Jones led a great final driver on a bum knee. Nice to have a good backup QB and a dependable kicker.

Bryce Huff with the 49ers:
• 3 games (90 snaps played)
• 2 sacks
• 9 tackles
• 1 forced fumble
• 2 tfl
• 1 pbu

Bryce Huff with the Eagles last season:
• 12 games (298 snaps played)
• 2.5 sacks
• 13 tackles
• 1 forced fumble
• 3 tfl

Saleh knows how to use him. 💪

I don't really even care if it's not provably the medical staff's fault, at some point you just need to try something different. This is insane.

Like a broken record.

Where the 49ers ranked with injuries in previous seasons, according to adjusted games lost (AGL):

2024: 32nd
2023: 4th
2022: 24th
2021: 29th
2020: 32nd
2019: 27th
2018: 26th
2017: 22nd

Shanahan provided the following injury updates:

  • DT CJ West suffered a broken thumb and will undergo surgery on Tuesday. The team will update his status later in the week.
  • QB Mac Jones is day-to-day with a knee injury.
  • DL Mykel Williams is day-to-day with a wrist injury.
  • CB Renardo Green is day-to-day with a neck injury.
On West's situation, Shanahan added: "He'll have a chance, they say. We'll see how it goes this week, but he'll have a chance at the end of the week with a cast. And if not, he should be good the following week. But we've got to see how this week goes with him."

"And then Jennings., same boat as last week," Shanahan said. "We'll evaluate him as this week goes. I guess we'd call that day-to-day:

Shanahan expects quarterback Brock Purdy to practice this week, though it's uncertain if he'll be limited like last week or a full participant.

"I don't know whether he'll have limitations or not, but I expect him to get back out there and get some stuff in, and we'll see on Wednesday how much he's able to do," Shanahan said.

Shanahan expressed excitement about wide receiver Demarcus Robinson returning from suspension. The team will evaluate his physical readiness when this week's practices begin on Wednesday.

Agree 100% this is just getting old. Also man this is now the second time for Bosa. Hope he doesn't lose a step or retire in near future. Curious if SF will look for replacement options or try to call someone up from the Bench. Only positive is Salah gets the most from his D. With the easier schedule this year and now 3-0 start, this should be a positive time but these injuries are getting too much. Hopefully in a few weeks can get the key offensive categories healthy and I guess try and sort out the DE issue. Maxx Crosby did look pissed last week for the Raiders :)

Shanahan on the possibility of making a trade to bolster the DE group without Nick Bosa:

"We will look at trade like we always do, but there's got to be trade options that make sense for you and another team, but you can't just do that stuff just to do it."

Some names being thrown out on Twitter as possible trade replacements if their teams continue to stack losses:

Danielle Hunter - Texans
Kayvon Thibodeaux - Giants
Bradley Chubb - Dolphins
Jermaine Johnson - Jets
Trey Hendrickson - Bengals
Brian Burns - Giants

Kawakami, who I only bring up because he's very connected, has repeatedly mentioned the possibility of bringing back Buckner (not a DE but could help the group). Hard to see him being available if the Colts keep this up though.

Third time for Bosa counting high school. He had the injury prone label coming out in the draft and he's lived up to it now, basically missing 2 of 7 seasons. Apparently he was going to agitate for a new contract if he had a big year, so I guess at least that drama is being postponed.

They can’t sign him again regardless of 2026 production. It’s sad bc I love the guy, but it’s just a bad business decision.

The Saints are awful, idk about the Cards & Hawks, but I’m still wildly unenthused.

I think I still haven’t recovered from the 2024 SB. In my history as a fan, that one left me more numb than any of the rest. Even after the Harbaugh Bowl, I was still excited the next season. I was ready for garbage last year and prepared for it this season.

At any other point of my life, I’d be ecstatic about 3-0 and crushed by the Bosa news, this season I’m aloof to it all.

I feel you, but with this schedule we got. I could still see us winning quite a few. Definitely, not trying to get my hopes up. But man when our weapons (Brock, Aiyuk, Kittle and Jennings) are back, I could see us doing some damage. Do hope Lynch and crew make one big move (i.e. Trent Williams/CMC like) to give us another weapon.

Agree

Once everyone is back, they will put up some points. Even getting Robinson back this week is big. A nice Improvement over what they are rolling out next to Pearsall and hopefully Jennings.

Losing Bosa is the suck for sure. Such a great all around player.

Not good.

The 49ers have activated CB Eli Apple from the practice squad.

The move all but confirms Renardo Green will be out.

I’ll eat it, I said it earlier in the year, couldn’t have been more wrong about Purdy, he’s awful.
Nah, he had a bad day, but all the drops weren't on him. Yeah he sailed balls high all day but at least 3 drops were right on receivers hands.

I'm sure he's not 100% healthy, but his body of work the past 3 years is nore indicative of who he is than today was IMO.

That said, the whole team was hot garbage today

He’s looked like this all season, imo.

ETA in the sample size we have

Hes also been without his top 2 pass catchers (he had Kittle for one quarter this season) and the OL isn't doing him or the running game any favors. Mac had a healthy Pearsall for his 2 games...today Purdy had no truly healthy starting WRs.

Lets see how things play out, I'm not jumping off the Purdy wagon.

In the 49ers' first game without Nick Bosa, their defense had no sacks and no QB hits for the first time in a game since Sept. 20, 2015, against the Steelers.

Also, the 49ers are the only team in the league without a rushing TD this season.

Defense tightened up in the 2nd half.

Jacksonville yards per play:

First half: 6.8
Second half: 3.2 (94 yards on 29 plays after halftime)

49ers had nearly 400 yards of total offense at 6.2 yards per play.

Without the turnovers and horrible special teams play, that's probably a win.
It’s certainly a win, they only lost by 1 score after losing the turnover battle 4-0. If the Jaguars were good that would have been a laugher.

I forget which beat writer it was that said during practice he wasn't driving off his back foot and if Mac hadn't had knee issues, that Purdy would have sat another game. And I think that showed 100%. He is normally surgical in that mid range game, but he was missing everything high, which makes sense if he can't drive off his back foot. It seems he just may have been the most heathly QB we had.

IMO one of the biggest issues yesterday, outside of the drops, was Trent Williams. I can't remember a game where he looked that bad. He got absolutely bullied all game. When he got beat by a simple swim move, on a play that may have scored (it looked like both immediate defenders had a blocker, which would have left CMC in open space 1 on 1 with a safety), I was shocked. Last year the oline looked rough, but at least we had Trent and Puni. And this year they both look rough.

Yep. 4 turnovers, at least 6 drops and gave up a special teams TD. Hard to beat any halfway decent team like that.

Other than the long ETN run, the young D played pretty well I thought. The penalty on Stout that nullified the INT was really questionable. That was huge as the Niners would have had the ball around the Jax 30. Also, an obvious block in the back on the gunner on the punt return TD. Maybe they didn't call it because it happened past where the returner caught the ball, but it definitely impacted the play and was right in front of the ref.

Worst game of Brocks career IMO. Pretty obvious he isn't 100 percent. Probably would have been another Mac Jones start if he was healthy.

Per Kyle Shanahan...

QB Brock Purdy was "complaining of some real soreness" with his toe this morning

WR Jauan Jennings' (ankle, shoulder) status for Thursday is up in the air

WR Ricky Pearsall could have "minor PCL" injury and there is concern about his ability to play Thrsday

Hopeful that S Malik Mustapha (ACL) can start practicing after Week 6

I’ll say it again I’ve never seen a team so consistently snakebitten with injuries in my life. I don’t know if they need to reevaluate their strength and conditioning or what, but it’s almost unbelievable.

The Ravens would like a word. LJax, Roquan, Nambdi, their rookie CB, and several others.

And Henry isn’t hurt but he can’t stop fumbling, so imma include him as an honorable mention.

I’m not even talking about just right at this moment, this stuff happens every year with this team.
