*** San Francisco 49ers *** discussion thread (3 Viewers)

Purdys numbers in 3 games without Deebo:

@ Seattle week 14 2022:
17/26, 217yds, 2tds, 117.0 rating

Vs Washington week 15 2022:
15/22, 234yds, 2tds, 1INT, 114.6 rating

@ Las Vegas week 16 2022:
22/35, 284yds, 2tds, 1INT, 95.4 rating

You would imagine this would benefit Aiyuk and mayyyybe Kittle. Kittle's usage is very hard to predict this season.
No shares of Kittle but my concern is that if Williams is out (doubtful currently), then they keep Kittle in to help in pass protection and put their faith in Jennings and Bell.

TRADE RUMORS: #Panthers do NOT plan on trading LB Brian Burns. Was told they see him as part of their future.

Players who they are willing to “listen to trade offers,”:

• CB Donte Jackson
• CB Jaycee Horn
• WR Laviska Shenault
• WR Terrace Marshall

Panthers want WR’s & draft picks!

Jaycee Horn would be nice

Asking the SF homers - how has Aiyuk performed in the past with Deebo out.

I like the matchup overall in his favor - and am thinking of hammering his over yards receiving tonight.

Would appreciate any games you remember with Deebo out.

Purdy in prime time under the lights:

In his three prime-time starts, Purdy is 3-0 with eight touchdown passes, no interceptions and a 126.6 passer rating. Those games were @ Seattle, at home vs the Giants, and at home vs the Cowboys.

Upcoming schedule after tonight. We have a short week when we play at Seattle on Thanksgiving, but get 10 days rest after that before going to Philadelphia week 13 (Eagles play at home vs Buffalo week 12). Some tough games in there.

Oct 29 Vs Bengals
Bye
Nov 12 @ Jaguars
Nov 19 Vs Bucs
Nov 23 @ Seahawks (prime time Thanksgiving)
Dec 3 @ Eagles
Dec 10 Vs Seahawks
Dec 17 @ Cardinals
Dec 25 @ Ravens (prime time Christmas)

Then we close out the season @ Commanders and vs Rams.

Shenault would be a great fit for this offense as a poor man's Deebo, who probably would cost like a late day 3 pick.

I would think Horn still costs at least a 2.

Hopefully they get Kittle much more involved this week. Feels like he's being wasted a little so far this season as closer to Juice than the Kelce-adjacent level talent he is.

Report: Vikings heavily pursued Brock Purdy before 49ers drafted QB

Brock Purdy and the 49ers will face Kirk Cousins and the Minnesota Vikings for some "Monday Night Football" action at U.S. Bank Stadium, but that could have been a very different story.

ESPN's Kevin Seifert and Nick Wagoner reported Monday, citing multiple sources, that the Vikings heavily pursued Purdy in the final hours of the 2022 NFL Draft, hoping to sign the Iowa State product to a UDFA deal. Purdy told ESPN last week he was considering the 49ers, Houston Texans and Vikings if he went undrafted.

Of course, San Francisco wound up selecting Purdy with the very last pick in the draft and the 23-year-old quarterback has since emerged as the starter following injuries to former 49ers quarterbacks Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo last season.

in 2017, the 49ers reached out to Washington about trading their No. 2 pick for Cousins, but Washington never returned the phone call.

There's no telling how things would have turned out if Cousins and Purdy were in opposite positions, but for the 49ers, it's safe to say things worked out for the best.

Kittle has 14 TD catches in 17 prime-time games the past 5 seasons. He has 13 TD catches in 40 afternoon games.

Fire it up!!!

Team tiers entering Monday Night (chart HERE)

Gap between Cleveland's #1 defense and the rest of the NFL has narrowed, as has gap between Miami's #1 offense and rest of the league.

The 49ers seem within striking distance of both as the league's only Tier 1 team. Vikings in Tier 6, like the Browns.

Upper right quadrant is where teams want to be. Look at us up there all by ourselves. :football:

To add to the above post:

A mild adjustment for garbage time will show that the niners are a full tier above anyone else, and the browns D isn’t any better than the Ravens’.

That’s discouraging given the Ravens are on the schedule.
The Raven game is a long way away. A lot can change between now and then (and a lot will).
It’s better for SF if we can just chalk up the Browns game as playing a generational defense that SF won’t need to face again. If it turns out the Browns aren’t that special, that’s not great.

The good news is Jim Schwartz isn't a Ravens coach. Schwartz coached teams are 8-1 vs Shanahan coached teams. Yeah, the Browns defense is good, but we still were a missed FG away from the win when we played bad at almost every position and lost Deebo, CMC, and Williams played injured.

QBs the Ravens have played are CJ Stroud, an injured Burrow, Anthony Richardson, Thompson Robsinson, Pickett, Tanehill, and Goff.

I wouldn't worry too much about that defense being lauded right now. Yeah they shut down Goff and the Lions, but other than that they haven't faced much.

Just shows how momentum can swing a game. Without that first fumble, they prob roll tonight. 3rd down defense was atrocious, and the DC, wtf? 16 seconds left in the half, let’s bring an all out blitz and leave no help over the top. My 10 year old playing Madden is smarter than that. Almost a fireable offense right there. I also have zero faith in Moody.

I guess the positive (and prob only one) is that we leave without any injuries but this was a ****ing disaster!

I’d also say we’re going to find out what Brock is made of, the criticism is going to be pouring in this week. I’m confident he responds. He was a 7th round draft pick. He isn’t going to look like Brady 8 seasons in. I’m not sweating, yet.

Wilks should be on the hot seat. The defense has looked atrocious when the offense isn’t spotting them big leads.

I’m sure PFF has Bosa graded highly or whatever but he’s made almost no plays this year that would render him worth that contract. Hargrave and Armstead can’t get any pressure when there’s any threat of a run.

And frankly, if Purdy was who we hoped he was, they’d have won the last couple of games. He’s a good young QB with potential but he’s not an all pro, at least not yet.

Lame.

We are no longer in the mix for best team in the NFC.
never were, frankly. as long as you have shanahan's kid coaching your team your going to be victims of chokes, inexplicable losses, snatching the defeat from the jaws of victory. soo tired of hearing people say how good shanny's kid is as a head coach, dudes won nothing, not a damn thing, as an NFL head coach. I absolutely love watching shanahan squirm on the sidelines and pace back and forth like pete carroll on meth. shanny with his firehouse subs hat on with the played out straight brim look this is a fatally flawed team that can't win big games who've they beaten so far, um lets see, NYG, Pittsburgh, Dallas. a who's who of who's not in the NFL. ok maybe dallas is half decent. but the rest are bums. minnesota is a pathetic team and they smoked 'em. Can we please, once and for all, put the anointing oils away for the brock purdy movie? cancel the parade and floats..2 key INTs in this game. Even with Ward's fake thigh injury to gain timeout late in the 4th they still couldn't do anything tonight. just simply pathetic.

Question…does anyone have doubts about Purdy?

They let Lance go awfully cheap. I realize it was all they could get, but as a non-9er homer, I was perplexed they felt the need to do it unless there’s something I’m not aware of.

Where is the pass rush? I saw Cousins hold the ball for 5+ seconds several times tonight.

That's insane.
The only thing I have to say is

Why does Nick Bosa suck this year? 2.5 sacks? 10 tackles. I'm not gonna look up the next gen stats, but he seems very much an underperformer this year. Did he get the cash and just not have the fire anymore? It really doesn't add up.

No. He's gonna have growing pains. The problem is the defense.

Bosa has 3.5 sacks in his last 12 games going back to last season (including playoffs). That's just unacceptable.

This is where I am too. Wtf is going on with him?

Candidly, almost every championship team goes through some mid season wake up call, I’m hopeful that’s what this is.

Bosa has to be looking at the stat sheet and getting angry too. I’m hopeful they’ve woken up from hanging the banner at Levi Stadium and take the gut check seriously.

Our entire D line isn't getting to the QB. With Bosa, Armstead and Hargrave you'd think at some point there'd be a sack party, but its not happening for whatever reason.

If this team can only go as far as the defense, they're not going far unless they figure it.out, and quick.

I’m genuinely curious how fans feel about him. I called the 9ers the best team in the league (& not close) after they kicked our *** (Cowboys). You guys do have some key injuries, though. The NFL is so unpredictable.

I was just wondering what the current “temperature” is on Purdy.

And frankly, if Purdy was who we hoped he was, they’d have won the last couple of games. He’s a good young QB with potential but he’s not an all pro, at least not yet.
Agree on Wilks, think we all do, so let’s move on from that. That call at the end of the half could be the worst call by any coach all season. I think we can leave it at that.

To this quote, I think everyone needs to calm down.

It’s Moody that’s the concern to me, not Purdy. I listed 6 guys who need to be healthy for them to win 2 weeks ago, 2 of them were out tonight. So there’s that. But look at it like this:

Moody makes the kick last week, is there this kind of panic? Moody makes the first 40 yarder tonight, we’re down 2, not 5, whole different game and I think Brock would’ve set him up to win it again.

The people that thought he’d continue playing like Joe Montana are probably having a hangover, but those of us who were realistic about him - he’s an league average or so starter, which is pretty damn good for a second year QB basically playing for free - haven’t seen anything to change our minds.

The NFL is so unpredictable.

This

It's like every year we think we know who the good teams and def who the bad teams and then they play the games oh shoot I forget it we know nothing.

It's an up down league. Takes a lot of perseverance to get through the dry spells. SF has that (IMO), but man losing sucks.

Y'all should be fine but def got some things to clean up.

I have 99% confidence in Purdy

I have 65% confidence in Moody (the 55 yarder tonight might be the kick that rights that ship)

I have 25% confidence in Shanahan right now. He usually puts whatever players he has in position to make plays. I didn't see that much tonight.

I have 10% confidence in the defense.

If Moody missed that second kick, he’d probably be cut and Gould would be on a plane tomorrow. Re: Purdy, see my post above. I’m not down on him but he isn’t quite as good as his first 14 or whatever starts looked, and that’s ok.

I think the importance of Deebo was really on display tonight.
