San Francisco is an awesome town (1 Viewer)

Golden Gate, the waterfront, Chinatown, Sausalito, the food the drink.

But man, the homeless, junkie, smells like weed everywhere, garbage factor is starting to get out of control.

Not a fan. I enjoy going there to see my friends but it's Liberalism run amock (free patchouli for all the homeless! Now you smell Lisa piss AND hippies!)

My City ain't the same since it's been overrun by guys like LHUCKS
That started like a decade or so ago, but it's really ramped up in recent years.

I hear Oakland is staying to get it's fair share of d-bag, b-school, frat-boy, tech-#######s.  It was pretty much full of real people when I left in 2011. As real as bay area people can be, that is.

Huge fan.

If you like great Italian, try Café Pinocchio in North Beach. Right next to City Lights bookstore. Still the best Caesar salad I've had in my entire life.

Going in September. Will be  my wife's first visit. My first in probably 20 years. We have an uncle that goes at least once a year. He loves it. We asked for tips and got eight separate emails from him, one for each topic (where to eat, where to walk, where to stay, best park, etc).

San Fran scarred me for life during my vacation 10 years ago.

We stopped at some highly rated burger joint. Right when I'm about to take a bite from my delicious burger my brother points something out to me in the window. A fat naked ######ed lady was pressed up against the window. Cops had to come put trash bags over her. Completely ruined my appetite.

Saw a homeless guy standing on the hood of a car pissing all over it laughing.

The only positive from the trip was bush man. This homeless man dug up a bush and brought it up on bridge. He would hide behind and and pop out and scare the hell out of people when walking by. Huge crowds would gather to watch. Pretty hilarious.

"The trouble with Scotland is that it's full of Scots"

I used to say a certain area was nice, except for the people.  But the reality is that the people make the place.  If you shipped out all the people, brought in your own hand picked ones then the area you once thought would be perfect would then be altered.  You'd have more things to complain about.  I had a friend come back to my hometown in Arkansas and she said how nice some things were there, except for so many hillbillies with dentition issues (my words not hers), rebel flags and racist bumper stickers.  Well, those people made Benton County.  So if you like the area, then appreciate the people who made that area.

Try the heroin addicts every am in the financial district.  The piss smell everywhere.  It was awesome during the super bowl when they got rid of them all.

Saw a homeless guy taking a dump in the middle the sidewalk on my last trip there at about 7:30 in the morning while having my coffee. Not a great way to start the day for either of us.

Top 5 US city though.

What's the best restaurant near the Castro district?
The Castro has never been much of a foodie neighborhood.  There seems to be higher than usual turnover in the restaurant spaces in the neighborhood.  I can't remember ever having a great meal there.  It's adjacent to the Mission though which always has some new and interesting places.

My favorite neighborhood in SF. There are trendy restaurants and authentic ethnic restaurants on the same block. Consignment shops, oddly specific boutiques, and Latin grocery stores are nestled in between. Walking around you rub shoulders with hipsters, MS-13 members and the random SF crazies. It is eclectic, in the truest sense of the word.

You need a half dozen guavas for a decent price, a burner phone, a pair of Justin ropers, or a giant glass bong...the Mission is your place.

Oh, plus everybody wins burritos.

Even though I live here and have been there several times, I always enjoy the Alcatraz Island tour. Basically will take up most of a day.

Also the hornblower cruises are nice. Did a dinner one for my dad 3 years ago. Goes from Bay Bridge to GG and back. About 3 hours if I recall correctly. Delish dinner.

I enjoyed Fort Point...amazing fort to walk around in and amazing views.

Had a really pleasant afternoon hanging out in that area...walking down to the wave organ and just relaxing.

Dave Matthews showed up the next day and did a small show in the park nearby.

The only place I have ever been where a homeless person we offered our leftovers to voir dired us about what was in the bag. San Fran has some picky homeless eaters I guess

SF is a weird town.  So much going for it, so much going against it.

My brother lives on Broadway at top of Pac Heights, overlooking the Bay, Alcatraz, and Golden Gate.  His place is awesome.  But he has the money to do it right and send his kids to private schools.  The people stay healthy and exercise.  Good food.  Good jobs.  So much to do as a tourist too.

But i couldn't live there.  The weather is mediocre at best.  The homeless seem to outnumber the housed.  The few beaches are freezing cold.  Garbage everywhere.  Public school kids are randomly bussed all over the place.  You can live right next to a HS, and be bussed over 45 mins away.  Traffic is horrid.

Better to head down towards Palo Alto or to the East Bay for a place to live.

Any fun and interesting places for dinner in the Mission district?

I think Helen von biscuits tried to win burritos but her farts weren't up to snuff.
