Not a big deal but this guy just loves to make trouble...

April 30, 2010 12:13 PM Report: Santonio Holmes Kicked off FlightPosted by Stephen W Smith CBS News A few weeks ago, Santonio Holmes was traded to the Jets, in part because of his questionable behavior. On Thursday night, he was kicked off a jet, apparently for the same reason. The star wide receiver was escorted off a flight at Pittsburgh International Airport Thursday night for being a "disruptive passenger," CBS Station KDKA reports.Holmes was apparently told he had to turn off his iPod, but he refused - at which time he was removed from the flight.Holmes was not arrested, and was allowed back on the plane, KDKA reports. No other details were released. On April 12, the Pittsburgh Steelers unloaded Holmes, who is facing a lawsuit in Florida from a woman who claims he threw a glass at her in a nightclub. He denies it.It was not his first run-in with the law. Two years ago, Holmes was cuffed for possession of marijuana, and he was involved in a domestic violence incident in 2006.

It's not a big deal but it is a good example of the disconnect some athletes seem to have with normal society. Turn off your dang iPod like everyone else on the plane and stop being a headcase already.

of course, I'm sure it'll be a big deal when your flight's delayed an hour because of some jackass.
I am not condoning his actions and hell yes it would annoy me that my flight was being delayed because a jerk wouldn't turn off his ipod. I was just saing it is not like he tried to get on board with a loaded gun, etc.
Or forced a stewardess into a bathroom and whipped it out.

He probably just couldn't hear with his Ipod on.

If he did that he'd probably still be playing for the Steelers sence smoking a J is much worse.

Hey Santonio,

There is no "I" in team

But there is an "I" in Idiot

Your sense of intitlement is every thing that's wrong with sports today. You make me sick.
Hey Yellow Line,There is one "i" in entitlement,

But there is also THREE occasions of the letter "e"

No excuse for misspelling in a board that Red underlines your mistakes...

Stay classy, guys.

The latest report says he was never removed from the plane.

Jets say Santonio failed to follow flight regulations

Posted by Michael David Smith on April 30, 2010 3:26 PM ET

It's still not completely clear what happened with New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes at the Pittsburgh International Airport on Thursday night, but the team has confirmed that he failed to follow flight regulations.

The Associated Press reports that Jets spokesman Bruce Speight said Friday that the team was told Holmes was flying from Newark Liberty International Airport to Pittsburgh on Thursday night and that a report was filed with the Allegheny County Police Department after Holmes' flight landed.

However, contrary to a report on Friday morning that Holmes was removed from a plane at Pittsburgh International Airport for being a "disruptive passenger," KDKA in Pittsburgh is reporting that Allegheny County police are now saying Holmes was never removed.

The latest report says that after Holmes got off the plane, police officers reminded him of the importance of complying with flight regulations, but he was not charged.

Jets coach Rex Ryan said the disruption was created when Holmes refused to turn off his iPod when instructed to by the flight crew, and Ryan says he'll tell Holmes to start complying with such requests.

Holmes was reportedly flying to Las Vegas this afternoon.

Police: Ex-Steeler Holmes Never Removed From Plane

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―

Allegheny County police are now saying former Steelers wide receiver Santonio Holmes was never removed from an airplane at Pittsburgh International Airport.

Earlier today, it was reported that Holmes had been escorted off the plane Thursday night for being disruptive.

However, police now say that never happened.

Authorities say Holmes was told to turn off his iPod, which he did.

Earlier this month, the Steelers traded Holmes to the New York Jets for a draft choice after the league suspended him for his most recent off-field problem.

So can someone tell me why he had to turn his iPod off in the first place? Seems kinda' dumb.
I don't know for sure, but I surmise a bunch of electronic devices running could interfere with some of the airplane communications gear when they talk to important people prior to takeoff. Just guessing though.

Yeah, that's what I always assumed, but really, is that true? An iPod? A cellular, I could buy that. Sends out a signal and so forth, but an iPod?I think they just want everyone to listen while the waitress with a death wish shows you how to operate your seat belt.

I'm not certain, but I believe the reason has to do with radio waves. All electrical devises emit them. It's probably unlikely that those radio waves would be of a frequency that would actually disrupt the planes equipment, but really do you want to be one of the people on a plane that is taking that chance?

I honestly did not know that.

physics aside, I think we can all agree that he endangered the lives of hundreds, some of whom were probably children.

let's just leave it at that.

Umm, I can't agree with that. Endangered lives? Nah.
In addition to the FCC’s rules, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) prohibits in-flight use of wireless devices because of potential interference to the aircraft’s navigation and communication systems. For this same reason the FAA also regulates the use of all portable electronic devices (PEDs), such as iPods and portable DVD players, during flight.
It has not been proven that any electronics actually interfere with the navigational and communication systems. If it did I think terrorists would be on to it by now.

Maybe Santonio was making an attempt at his own kind of Jihad? It was a Pittsburgh plane.

Turning off your ipod makes no difference at all. Even if it was an iphone and he was texting or calling, it would still be extremely unlikely that the pilots would even notice. It's against regulations but the flight attendants usually don't care/can't tell if you just take off your headphones.

Electronics are not allowed on planes because, and only because, the radio systems on planes are so 1940's that the FAA is afraid that any electronic device will cause interference with the outdated equipment. I mean I can call Spain from WA state on a cellphone and it sounds like the person is in the next room, but talk to the tower from the runway and it sounds like a WWII sub radioing an escort ship.

Hilarious. Perfect analogy. I remember listening to the news when they made a huge deal about a kid talking to the pilots during landing, if anybody remembers that.. When I was listening I was like WTH, are they using walkie-talkie's from Toys R' Us?

Turns out to be a tempest in a teapot. Not sure how this became a news story.

Allegheny County police confirm that Santonio Holmes wasn't removed from plane

Posted by Mike Florio on April 30, 2010 8:44 PM ET

Well, it was a good story when it first surfaced. It would have been even better if it had been, you know, accurate.

Police in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania has issued a statement confirming that Jets receiver Santonio Holmes was not removed from a flight at Pittsburgh International Airport on Thursday night. Here's the full text: "As previously reported, Santanio Holmes was NOT removed from any airplane (4/29/2010). He was asked to remove his Ipod (at one point), in which he complied. There's no further information to report."

The Jets previously acknowledged that Holmes failed to follow flight regulations.

So there you have it. Something happened, but it didn't result in Holmes being ejected as a "disruptive passenger." Still, this guy needs to be on his absolute best behavior, and people on their absolute best behavior don't find themselves in these situations.

If you don't like the rules the airline imposes, take a freakin' bus. SH and all you AH's defending him.
