I;m a huge fan of Bullet Bob, but, he wasn't the first sprinter/WR that no defender could run with. Hell, Don Hutson ran a 9.8 when the WR was a 9,4 100 and there were no speedy cornerbacks in his day.Hayes revolutionized football because he couldn’t be covered one-on-on and he singlehandedly changed the game, becoming the reason NFL teams started implementing zone coverage.
I though you two knew your football?![]()
The Rams Bob Boyd was the NCAA 100 yards champ in 1950, ran 9.5 which was far faster than any cornerback back then. He like Hutson had 1000 plus yards season blowing by everyone.
Would you you believe the Giants brought in a guy to run with Hayes who had beaten him in the 200m in college? This was Henry Carr the 64 Olympic 200 champ. And. they also had a WR in Homer Jones who had also beaten Hayes in an NAIA 200m.
Jones the daddy of the spike, yep, first player to spike the ball, and the first player to run back a kickoff to score on MNF (now a Brown)
Hayes was a RB in college, love to see a video of that.
