Schefter reports Chambers on the trading block (1 Viewer)

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports Chris Chambers' name has come up in trade talks across the league in recent days.

Schefter says Reggie Williams and Michael Clayton are also being dangled by their respective franchises. Chambers has always been overrated by fans and the media, and that a receiver-weak Dolphins team would shop him just goes to make that more obvious. He might bring back a third-round pick as compensation. Williams and Clayton would likely net late-round choices.

Ernie Wilford has got to be one of the biggest sleepers this year. I know not to expect much from the Jags passing game, but the guy is still going undrafted and will end up as the #1 or #2 receiver overall on the team, and is definitely the #1 receiving option around the goal line.

No kidding? :thumbdown:Seems like Philly and Tampa would be sensible suitors here.

Reggie and Clayton both seem like guys who could possibly turn their careers around, or maybe get them started would be the better way to put it, with a fresh start and change of scenery. Not saying they will, just that it seems possible

I'm not surprised that the Jags are looking to trade Reggie Williams, but they'll be lucky to get a 6th round pick for him.

I think that after his rookie season that the Jags should've converted him from a really big WR to a small pass-catching TE.

I really don't think that the Eagles would be in the market for a WR. Avant has had a good camp this year and they have Reggie Brown and Kevin Curtis cemented as 1-2. Plus Reid has a strange affection for his guys at WR.

I'm wondering if the Giants would take a look at a WR. Burress has a minor back problem, Jennings is done for the year, and Tyree is going to miss a month. I know they have Steve Smith from USC but I haven't heard much about him this summer.

I was once a Chambers fan, but his dismal career catch percentage soured me (and has obviously soured the Dolphins!) I bet the Dolphins wish they could take back that 5yr, 30M dollar extension they gave Chambers a few years ago.

It's little stuff like this that makes me more and more confident of my Ted Ginn love this offseason (in spite of his many detractors.)

Man I would love to have Chris Chambers on the Cowboys roster. I think he is underrated. For his entire tenure in the NFL he has had garbage QB's. A third round pick for Chambers is a steal IMO.

Nobody's gonna trade for Chambers' contract. Why trade for that when you can pay him less if was a FA?

Chambers is scheduled to make $5.4 million in base salary this season to go along with his $7.3 million salary-cap number. As productive as Chambers has been -– catching at least 59 passes in each of the past four seasons and 82 two seasons ago –- his financial numbers are not easy for the cap-strapped Dolphins to swallow.

"Mr. Huizenga, Matt Millen is on Line 1....."

Adam Shefter mentioned today that Chambers may be traded. Not alot more info in that other than he is hearing his name out there.

;)

I need the emoticon for looking in the fridge and not finding what you are looking for right in front of your face.

Schefter says Reggie Williams and Michael Clayton are also being dangled, but cautions that none is likely to be dealt. Chambers has always been overrated by fans and the media, and that receiver-weak Miami would shop him just makes that more obvious. He might bring back a third-round pick as compensation. I think all of those prices are too high. I wouldn't give up a third-rounder for Chambers, and I wouldn't give up any draft picks for Williams or Clayton.

Chambers would be a top 5 WR in Philly this year. Mcnabb was making Stallworth pretty good. A guy named Owens too.
Yeah, McNabb did make TO look good. Come to think of it, every QB he's played with has made TO look good. Some guys get all the luck.
TO was a threat to catch a bomb behind the defense every time Mcnabb dropped back. Didn't get that same feeling when Garcia would toss him the ball in SF. Luckily, TO was in his prime then and was able to catch a 15 yard crossing pattern from Garcia and turn it into a 70 yard TD. Guys like TO and Moss benefitted greatly from having guys that could over throw them on their fastest day. Guys like Chambers and Andre Johnson have all the ability in the world, but haven't had the luxury.

Remember, the Miami Dolphins have committed a large sum of money and time to Chris Chambers. He is the 3rd most targeted WR over the last 3 seasons (behind only Holt and Ocho Cinco), and the 5th most targeted WR of the past 5 years (behind Holt, Harrison, Chad Johnson, and surprisingly enough, Laveranues Coles). They've invested a ton in him and given him every possible opportunity to succeed, hitching the fate of their franchise to his development as a WR. If Miami is willing to cut bait on him despite having NOBODY ELSE at WR, then that's a pretty good indication that Chris Chambers' horrible numbers are not the result of shoddy QB play.

Steve Young helped TO more than McNabb.

The Dolphins got a 2nd and a 7th for Wes Welker. Contracts and cap numbers aside; Chambers has to be worth as much as Welker on the open market.

Whether Chambers is even more valuable than Welker is debatable. Welker had more catches for more yards last year on fewer targets, and he returns kicks.Welker's situation was also different in that the Patriots were aggressively pursuing him and the Dolphins held the cards. In this case, Miami appears desperate to sell and is unlikely to get fair value.

if they can't trade him, i don't think they will cut him. they can still use him. remember, the fins traded away lots of picks over the years trying to find a QB.... so they may just want to see if they can get some back...

Agree and that was before one Randy Moss went for a 4th rounder. Anytime a player is sold for can of beans, it hurts the trade market in sense of value for that position. At least for awhile until the next dum dum GM does a dealing with rose colored glasses on again.

The only thing Williams has going for him is that he's only making 595K in base salary this year. He's one guy who has a slight chance of making more money if he gets cut. Somebody might trade a conditional pick to lock in that cheap year of salary.

Barring a few possibilities, is it safe to say that this is bad for Chambers owners?
Chambers has mad skills. This is good for Chambers. I'd love to see him in a real NFL offense instead of the pitiful excuse for an offense he's played on in Miami. It isn't going to be any better there this year with that offensive line and Trent Green as the QB.

He wouldn't even start in Philly, let alone be a top 5 WR.
:) I usually agree with you, but I personally have Chambers and Reggie Brown as equals right now, and that's with McNabb throwing to Brown and whatever trash is throwing the ball to Chambers. If these two guys swapped teams, I'd have Chambers in the top 15 and Brown around 50.
