Seattle homers (1 Viewer)

Walter Jones is now officially living on his reputation. I've been hesitant to say it, but it can't be denied any longer. Jones was a big reason the Seattle offense misfired yesterday on two very important plays late in the game. Seattle had all the momentum. Even though Gore was butchering the defense the 49ers were unable to score the entire second half.

Walter Jones got used on two plays in this series...

1-10-SEA17 (4:11) S.Wallace pass short right to D.Branch to SEA 25 for 8 yards (S.Davis). Caught at SEA 21.

2-2-SEA25 (3:43) S.Alexander right end to SEA 28 for 3 yards (D.Smith).

1-10-SEA28 (3:01) S.Wallace sacked at SEA 18 for -10 yards (M.Douglas).

2-20-SEA18 (2:28) S.Wallace pass incomplete deep middle to D.Branch.

3-20-SEA18 (2:18) S.Wallace pass short middle to D.Branch to SEA 37 for 19 yards (B.Moore). Caught at SEA 33.

4-1-SEA37 (2:00) S.Alexander left guard to SEA 36 for -1 yards (B.Young).

DE Marques Douglas beat Jones on the fourth down play. Beat him badly setting up Young to get credit for the tackle. Jones has Douglas one on one and simply wiffs. If he engages Douglas at the line of scrimmage that play goes for great yardage. Anyone who questions the play call needs to go back and watch the film.

I think I'll have the image on Jones standing there after the play burned in my thoughts for a while. If people fail to point this out during press conferences during the week I'll be very disapppointed.

hey he's now got the $$ from a long-term contract. No longer has an All Pro next to him in Hutch. Never really liked to put in a lot of "prep work" (his annual holdouts seemed as much aimed at avoiding training camp as the $$). He is talented enough that he can get by on his reputation for several more years. Get used to it.

And what were people blaming SA's inability to run early in the season on? Waiting on the line to gel? Walter Jones is overrated as you've said and the loss of Hutch is more painful than people thought.

Just a guard...yeah right. Try telling that to SA.

Is it just me or is the overall play in the NFL down this year? Just seems like there is more ugly, undisciplined, unmotivated play out there.

Does this mean sell SA in dynasty formats while he still has good value?

If you change "press conferences" to "team meetings," I'll agree with you. But, I don't understand the desire to have him called out in front of the media.

This from Clare Farnesworth at the Seattle PI. Very disappointed that he doesn't credit the bolded section to Jones.

Faced with a fourth-and-2 from their own 37-yard line, just after the two-minute warning, Holmgren called a play that should have picked up the first down: Alexander running to the left side behind All-Pro tackle Walter Jones and with an escort from Strong, his Pro Bowl lead blocker.

Rather than a possession-sustaining run, Alexander was stopped for a 1-yard loss as defensive tackle Marques Douglas somehow knifed in to swat Alexander to the turf.

My mistake. I didn't mean for the coaching staff to specifically name him. I was referring to the local media handling him like a piece of glass. See my example above from Farnesworth.

The Seahawks were simply manhandled by the better team.

Two plays and suddenly he's an overpaid hack? You're the homer so I'm sure you've seen a lot of this guy but even the best o-linemen get beat once in a while. Perhaps Alexander wasn't/isn't back to his old self yet?

Walter Jones was beaten like a drum by the Bears DL at least 3 times in that Sunday night match up. Once by a rookie 5th round De Mark Anderson who got the sack.

My post was not the result of two plays. Consider them the straws that broke the camels back. I've been reluctant to speak out against him because he's been so good for so long. Further, I'm seeing that our local media is also reluctant to do the same. His play this year has not been what it once was. Not just this one game, but all year.I'm just telling you what I'm seeing. I watch the tape. Rewind. Watch it again. Rewind. Watch it again. Not just the two plays, but each play. You might be surprised how quickly you can go through an entire game and see each play several times. If you haven't tried it, I strongly suggest giving it a try. GB my DVR.

Hey Shick! Niner fan here....

I was traveling yesterday and didn't get to see the niner vs seahawks game or even the highlights. I just know the niners won.

I just had a simple question. Did the hawks just suck or did the Niners play that good? Mixture of the two?

As I said, you're the homer so I believe. It's sometimes amazing how quickly a person can drop off.

I think you're too late for that. Poor performance plus 30 years old next year and he's not even a first round pick if a dynasty draft were held today.

Varies degrees of sucktitude and great play on both sides of the ball.I wasn't assigned the Seahawks game yesterday, so I mostly watched as a fan, but I went back and watched the game late last night trying to focus on the Seattle offensive line play.Busy at the moment. I'll add my commentary later.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Not a good sign at all considering the way the rest of the group has played. Thoughts on Hutchinson here Shick!? I'm not sure what to think but between the line and the defense things are not looking good. I thought they would hit their stride around playoff time and I'm pretty happy with 6-4 considering the amount of time Hass, SA, Stevens, and Tubbs have missed but yesterday was disheartening. SF is not bad and they certainly have moved up the DD opinion chart but Seattle looked awful on run D and when they needed to make a play. This team reminds me more of the 2003 team than it does the 2005 team.

It's a combination of all of the above, certainly.

Jones isn't the Jones of 2005; and there's no Hutchinson, which - of course - precludes Alexander from being so much as mediocre.

Also a Niner's fan, watched the entire game. Nolan sure looked sharp in a suit! :pics: The first half the Niner's were on FIRE. The D got 3 very good turnovers, and were able to capitalize on them. They were getting into the backfield quite easily, and Alexander couldn't really get a good head of steam going. Nolan chickened out on a 4 and an inch (Battle TD reversed, ball placed on the 1 inch line) at the end of the half and settled on a FG.Then they officially retired Jerry Rice at halftime, and from there on out the Niner's did everything they could to give the game to Seattle. Spencer got dinged, and they had to bring in Davis on the corner, and Wallace just punished him. Even the commentators were drawing bullseyes on him with the telestrator. SF's offense went from overdrive to park. Seriously, when Nedney, who has NEVER missed a under 30 yard FG missed two in a half, what can you say? The end of the game was turnover to turnover to turnover.

This is the NFL - one game does not make a better team...Walter Jones is no longer the player he once was but still good enough to anchor the Seahawks line. They have gone from a line that had all 5 guys playing together for the last 2 seasons to one that is being patchworked every week. Tobek has been out, Locklear has been out, guys have been playing off positions, and it doesn't help that Jones is getting older.
